It's actually sloppy, if you listen to the 16th note passages. Latry would never do that.
I have to agree that it is more about showmanship than about the mysticism of Messiaen's "Word made flesh." It sounds more like a French toccata instead of the ending of Messiaen's meditation on the mystery of the incarnation.

Hey Anna, do you want to know what this is supposed to sound like??? Listen to Naji and learn. Put away the freakin' metronome. This is piece is about meditation, not virtuosity.
Because it was nasty and uncalled for - particularly the bit about the chopsticks. You don't like the interpretation? Fine! Express yourself but don't be so flipping nasty.
I dissagre with SPRutt68. Most organists don't play this piece at this tempo. I was at the royal albert hall when Wayne Marshall performed this work last year. It was played at great speed and dexterity in about 6 minutes! I do however, agree that it also sounds great at a slower tempo. I myself play this piece in 6:40.
The final section was too fast which meant that when the pedal came in the line was played almost legato so that the notes could actually have some length, play it slightly slower so that there can be a little break between the pedal notes but so they can still have presence and emphasis. This is also more appropriate due to the reverberation in the building! When I play this piece my time is usually 9:10, just relax a little bit and allow it to sing! Apart from that a very good performance!
difficult to find many to take this piece on- a real treat to hear this rendition. a flood of joyous sound, majestic in every way. very good sound in this clip. thank you.
Too fast for the room. With that much reverb, it just sounds like mud. Even then, if you listen to Messiaen playing it, he plays the "Vif" sections slower than that. Other than that, very good. I'm working on this piece right now, it's very difficult.
can i respectufully ask that all Wizard of Oz comments towards Kansans stop? They got old about 20 years ago... no offense to nodewarrior, but just for future reference...
wow...waaay too fast. needs to be more of a sense of time. messiaen was a stickler for accurate time and counting. the first "lent" section is not ethereal enough. and all of the "modere" sections need to have the same tempo.
Very compelling rendering of one of the most demanding organ masterworks by the greatest composer of the XXth century for pipe organ, Olivier Messiaen. BRAVA ANNA!
thats it exspecially the beginning im playing it molto adagio and Messiaen too. The toccata is great and technical good but to fast. hear the rcording by messiaen.
Amazing instrument, by the way!

The notes are there, just no emotion... Sorry...

It seems that there is a consensus. To me, there is a lack of poignancy--just washing over the notes, not listening to what they may say.

This is VERY well played. It sounds almost exactly like Messiaen's recording of the same on EMI.

I don't know why doolaga is getting thumbed down. What he/she is saying is absolutely true.

yes, I agree with doolaga and lightandgold, of course. Anna should try to understand music, better than just enjoying virtuosity. Bad interpretation.

@SPRutt68 : just the final section is too fast ? Nooooooo! It's all too fast, and without any soul. Bad.

Mmmmno. We're not going to be doing that. If the good Lord didn't want us making fun of Kansans he wouldn't have invented MGM. Live with it.
