I'll admit she's not my favorite thing...don't like preciousness. In the business 30+ yrs, I work with vocalists as solidly sparkling, and she's not going to cut every bassist or writer. Surely, some of her success comes from being beautiful. BUT, Each aspect of what she's putting forth is done very solidly, at the very least. Each element of what she does, at times, rises above this general level of solidity to the realm of excellence. Put it all together? End product: nothing short of amazing.

What has happened to the world? Back in the day there was musical greatness everywhere and everybody loved it. Now, with Esperanza, she's SO great that people have no idea how to react. Its as if the McDonalds the music biz has been serving up as filet mignon has really made people believe that a Big Mac really is greatness. She doesn't count on writers, producers, arrangers, dance choreographiers, makeup artists, and wardrobe people to make her who she is. She stands up and out all by herself.

To be honest I never used to be that much into jazz. The form of improvisation and tonality was too complex for my taste, so I would always stop paying attention after a while. But this is wonderful.

With the power and at the same time sweetness in her voice it doesn't matter how complex the melody is, because I'm captivated from beginning to end.
