Well that was incorrect pretty much from the start. One does not steep tea in a boiling kettle. One boils the water, and then pours as much as is required into the *serving* pot, adding one teaspoon of tea leaves per (tea)cup of tea which that container holds, plus an additional teaspoon of leaves "for the pot." As it is highly unlikely that Jane Austin would have used a tea ball, you should have also indicated the use of a tea strainer when pouring the tea.
Actually the socially correct way of pouring tea is to put the milk in after the tea even though this scalds the milk. Social correctness has traditionally had nothing whatever to do with reason, logic, or physics.
With some tea sets (pre dishwasher safe days), sudden direct heating caused cracking, so in many circles the traditional method is actually milk first. Me personally, I ain't bothered.
I have a sudden craving to slap you with your own kettle.

Very amusing, but back in the day, the quality of porcelain was such that the tea cup might shatter if tea was poured before milk
