I'm ashamed to say that I can't recall this play-by-play man's name, and I know he's one of the legends. Just thought I'd say that I'm a fan of his style and delivery, ESPECIALLY when compared to that donkey Jack Edwards. And this is coming from a Sabres fan... and yes, Rick Jeanneret is still the alpha and omega of play-by-play men.
Tugs reminds me of Cory Schneider in terms of his technical stability and just positioning in the net. Hope CS35 can pan out as the Canucks' starter and be as good as Ron was!
i give a lot of credit to tugnutt for hanging in there and not giving up, he played really well controlling his rebounds and so on, but a lot of the shots were directly on him from the point, but still he made great saves and contniued to not give up
@jbobbster did you just put Potvin in the same sentence as Brodeur and Roy? You MUST be a Leafs fan :-)
As for the video, I really wish they would have shown the goals as well to see what shots did beat him. It seems to me that while yes, 73 is an amazing number, the majority were shots taken from the outside. Not taking anything away from Tugger, just saying that the Bruins were quick to just walk into the zone and shoot. He rarely had to go post to post to make a save. Pass the puck boys!
@darthfrogg Oh you know what I mean. Really there are a lot of great goaltenders who can't say they've had a game like this: Brodeur, Roy, Dryden, Esposito, Luongo, CuJo, Belfour, Hasek.
And no I'm not a Leafs fan, I was just spitballing names.
The Nordiques defense was terrible. They allowed Ray Bourque, a defenseman to get 19 shots on goal!!!! Thatt's unbelievable. I don't even think Gretzky, Lemieux, or Bossy ever had that many and they were forwards. And absolute awesome game by Tugnutt. If there's one thing that he has over the likes of Brodeur, Roy and Potvin, it's this game.
Awesome game Ron!! What an amazing performance!! This has to be the best modern day games ever for a goalie. He looks so poise and has great possitioning.
@tjackson76 there's an article in yahoo sports titled "happy 20th birthday" to Tugnnut's amazing performance. Maybe that's why. This video was featured in the article as well.
How bad were the Nordiques at clearing it out of their zone? I don't think I could get 73 shots on goal if I played a 60 minute game on NHL 11 on Rookie difficulty
probably the best video on the internet. I was 14 years old, obsessed with the bruins and remember staying up late for the end of this game. Fred Cusic calling the game with derek sanderson-- the names-- galley, lazaro, poulin... those were the days. And, of course, long live the Nordiques...
I was at this game. I saw a game for the record books that night . Every time LaFleur touched the puck, everyone yelled "GGGUUUUUYYYY!" and we weren't mocking. And yes, we did give him a Standing Ovation. Also if I recall correctly, Cam Neely told Tugnutt to take a bow after the game; Tugnutt did and we cheered him too.
Bourque, Markwart (the Kamikaze Kid!) and Ken Hodge jr scored for the Bs. On the Nords, Sakic had 3 assists, no goals
this is another GEM...I guess the MOD was "get to the blue line and just blast it at him. Even the Bruins get tired from all the shooting all the shots. Someone buy him a beer!

Not only one of the best Goaltending efforts I have ever seen, but also one of the most exciting calls to watch...especially in the extra session.

Je me souviens de cette partie! Et surtout de son arrêt contre Bourque à la fin de la prolongation. Incroyable!!!

If I remember correctly that was Guy LaFleur's last game at the Boston Garden and he got a Standing "O" by the Bruins fans, true class.
