  • Uprated, favorited and shared. When I moved to NYC in '77, I first worked as a servant in Westchester, and this was my train into the City. I had some funny experiences going up to New Haven! One night, the train stopped in the middle of nowhere in the snow and a nervous engineer told the conductor, "Um, there's no station here." Fortunately, there were no accidents!

  • no thats an m3a or an m4 m6.

  • Was the guy at the end saying "you can't take pictures down here."?

  • God I remember when Amtrak used to go into Grand Central. Once you passed MO tower you were going into Grand Central.

  • where does it enter the ground? which street number? thanks

  • @mcbofrost 96th Street.

  • @mcbofrost 97th street

  • new york looks pretty shitty, lol

  • @SERVExLV This is the Bronx. Not Manhattan.

  • great video.

  • well done very nice video!

  • does metro north go to penn station too?

  • @mcrrocks80 No.

  • the guy at the end....U CANT TAKE PICTURES....

    LOL!!!

  • I just saw my building...lol

  • The line went all the way to Chattam, NY in Columbia County ,134 miles from GCT. Penn Central cut back the line to Dover Plains in Dec 1972 and Metro North Restored service to Wassiac about 10 years ago. There was only one train a day to Chattam but Columbia County has never been part of the MTA Charter so once the MTA took over, the stations in that county were abandoned.

  • 2:48.. switching to: night mode. lol

  • Hey I am going under that bridge @ :30 today!! Is this a M-1

  • Cool. I'd like to see the ride all the way into the station until the train stops if possible.

  • The conductor dude made me put it away. I think he thought I might be scoping out the place for a terrorist attack.

  • Well, he was wrong. Videography is not illegal or disallowed on Metro-North.

  • Niko,.. my cousin!

  • They're not like the LIRR at all. They open their front doors :)

  • You are so right!!

  • OH yes the south Bronx I LOVE IT

  • Fascinating perspective. I've often wondered about the view entering Grand Central from the front of a train. Thanks for posting!

  • cool pictures. too bad its post 911. Otherwise, you would have been able to capture all that magnificent maze of switch tracks as your train approached GCC.

  • I am not sure if I understand. Post 9/11 the mase is gone? What's the relation?

  • Irrelevant, railfaning is still legal to this magnitude.

  • what bridge was that from around 28 seconds to 35 seconds?

  • that is the twin lift bridge that crosses the Harlem River running between the Bronx and Manhattan. It replaced a swing span 4 track bridge I think back in the late 50's (can't remember for sure).

  • was that the subway or like an actual train?

  • This is from an actual Metro-North passenger train.

  • hey how many miles is it from grand central station to where the train comes out of the tunnel on park ave

  • Was this from a Genesis Cab Car?

  • This was from the front car of the train. What is a Genesis Cab Car?

  • What I mean by a Genesis Cab Car is when a Genesis diesel is pushing a train, the front passenger coach will usually have a full width cab. But the horn sounds like that of a M1, M2 or M3

  • no, this is electric. when the wires stop and the train goes a bit faster, the wires are actually inside the tracks

  • In the tunnel they use third rail...outside it is overhead wire (catenary).

  • metro north (old new york central) uses third rail all the way north to Croton-on-The Hudson, and North White Plains (Harlem Lines). The former New Haven RR commuter line branched from the Harlem Lines (somewhere near 233Rd St in the Bronx) use to be under caternary until just recently. Now 3rd rail continues just past the station in Pelham where it switches to caternary before proceeding into New Rochelle.

  • "...and North White Plains (Harlem Lines). "

On the Harlem, it goes as far as Bewster. (can't remember the station's proper name)

  • I thought it goes as far as this place called Wassic, although it usually goes to either,Southeast, or Dover Plains.

  • The rail line goes up to Wassaic (and if you use google earth, you can follow the line past that - abandoned tracks a plenty - but the 3rd rail goes only as far as Southeast / Brewster

  • If it only goes that far, then how do trains get to even Dover Plains?

  • Diesel.

  • The electric ends at Southeast , one stop after Brewster. The desiel continues to Wassaic.

  • Genesis Cab-Cars don't exist ;) They are called Shoreliner (either I, II, or III) Cab-Cars. This video was clearly shot out of either and M1, M2, M3, M4, or M6 depending where you (jzagarins) got on the train (probably not an M1 or M2 because the specific way the horn sounded sounds similar to an M3-M6). I can tell because the way the horn sounded, the way the front window is shaped, and the fact that you can hear the engineer moving the throttle/brake.

  • @jzagarins I think he's asking if your in the cab of a GE P32AC, your obviously not.

  • @R160A I THINK you mean Cab Car.

  • nicely done.
