The girl doesn't want to leave her first love, but, eventually, these beings compel her to come back. It is really about how hard it is to let go of someone, even when they leave us. The idea of the children as animal represents the primal and innocent side of nature and death. The children aren't evil or bad...they just serve a function. The mask for the lead girl symbolizes her
