The song imo, is about the distorted memories of lost love , the words our beloved used to tell to us sound distorted and what once caused us so much happiness, over the years makes the sound of them distorted. Hence the title. It's the fire of the memory of those those words that burn us from the inside. Like a burning fire. Hence the title of the song. This song is one of the many unsuspected jewels BoC has to offer.

I always thought of a young person who had been told that he was loved for the first time in his life, and the girls voice was ringing in his head as he was spinning over the concept of someone caring about him in this way, like: "wow...I can't believe this for me." Kind of also why the title made sense to me, reminds me of that hot feeling you get in your stomach when your feeling really strongly about something, while at the same time implying danger that could come with something like love.

I like how it alludes to how brief life is. And how, really, we do care about each other enough to have relationships. To be human is to have compassion. It is short. It is brutal. But there are some things that are worth it. We needn't "throw the baby out with the bath water" so to speak.

Some of the first things we learn are to love our parents and other people. This is where we should be directing our energy. Helping people who are just as human as our parents and ourselves.
