Plus 44 is just like the massproduced shite with Mark's voice and w/o the screamo. It's still very depressing music, whereas AVA can trace back to 80s hair metal which actually gave people a release. I enjoy my share of emo music, including Plus 44, but to say Plus 44 is better then AVA is shit, Plus 44 sounds bland in most of the songs I heard.
