  • he looks like he could do some damage...like a dingy alley cat

  • i wanna work at this place

  • Is Banjo friendly? He looks like he's friendly! I know it sounds like a stupid thing to do, but wanted so badly to give him the biggest kiss on the nose when he got close to the camera through the fencing (:

  • @lalafunnys Sure he appears friendly, but he also has sharp teeth and claws and he's a wild animal so this could all change very quickly if he felt like following his natural instincts....

  • @BigCatRescue I know. I was just simply making an observation based on his overall behavior and reaction to the cameras.

  • How did you manage to get a Binturong? Was he a rescue as well? These are awsome critters :)

  • @oneworldunderrigga Yes, Banjo was a former "edutainment" animal he was taken around to schools etc... when his owner no longer wanted him we provided him with a permanent home where he can do whatever he want,s when he wants :)

  • @BigCatRescue I want one for Christmas.

  • do they smell popcorn?

  • @carlpoogii They can smell like popcorn, yes :)

  • This isn't a cat! Stowaway!

  • Is wikipedia correct in saying that binturongs make "chuckling sounds" when happy?

  • @EthanXin I've never heard our binturongs do this before, some volunteers say they've heard them make whistling noises before?

  • I would love to own a binturong (: he'd be my best friend

  • it looks like an all black raccoon...

  • this is some fucked up shit.. bearcat

  • @sayroni

They look a lot more frightening than they really are.

  • looks like a Giant sloth to me lol

  • this belongs to vivveridae family

  • @thehantavirus No shit.

  • what a cool pimpim mothafucka! nd the music really goes well

  • it ain't bearcat it's rather catraccoon

  • I'm totally unfamiliar with that (Family? Genus? Species?) To me, it looks like the werewolf version of an otter.

  • What do binturongs eat? Looks to me like Banjo is a vegetarian. He is a cutie pie, though! :o)

  • @Sandmaven They're omnivores, Banjo and our other tow binturongs get their veggies and fruit in the morning them we feed them the same diet as our small cats in the evenings :) Yes he's cute !!

  • bearcats aren't cats this is misleading

  • @je1117 Bearcat is their common name :)

  • Too ugly to be part of the cat family, but unique in its own way.

  • @VoidedMirror Mean.

  • man i wish they domesticated binturongs because i would love one as a pet

  • It's a Billy-Bumbler! Well, the neck is too short, and the tail's not curly...

    Does he talk? ;)

    Oy!

  • @TheGzeus

Sort of , but he's not striped

  • wat kind of cat is this?

  • @legospacepolice3 Banjo isn't a species of cat, if you click on the link in the description to the video you can find out more about binturongs :)

  • @BigCatRescue ok thanks.

  • @BigCatRescue Link doesn't work!

  • Why is every video of binturongs on YouTube set to porno music?

  • He is one of my favorite animals at BCR. It's fascinating how he smells like buttered popcorn!

  • Binturongs are apart of the feliform family, like Hyenas and Meerkats.

  • I've never even heard of a bearcat! I went to the species page you linked and I am confused...are these animals related to cats at all?

  • @MsMEHowe Nope they aren't related to the bear or the cat, this is just a name they have adopted because they resemble these animals, they are more closely related to the civet/mongoose :)

  • please do a spotlite on him he looks so interesting!!

  • @MackieMo1 We are actually doing a species spotlight in the future about binturongs, next year, collecting footage now :)

  • How did you acquire your bearcats?

  • @captmicha Banjo was used as an educational animal taken to schools etc.. for presentations, before he was retired and we offered to provide him a home. Binturongs are excellent climbers in the wild but unfortunately Banjo doesn't climb, we gave him lots of trees and nautical rope in his enclosure to help him but he stays on the ground :(

  • @BigCatRescue Do the circuses and other people that make money off of these animals until they're too old to work anymore ever donate money to you guys for taking them off of their hands so they can get new, younger animals to continue making them money?

  • @captmicha To some extent....:)

  • First time I see a bearcat...

  • LOL did he even eat the pumkin? He is a really crazy looking creature. That still at the end was funny :P

  • @UjjijjU No he just ate the face goodies and then played with the pumpkin :)

  • Looks like he is made of spare parts.

  • Its a bear-catcoon-anteater lmao xD

  • In chinese, bearcat means panda. That's one crazy...cat? Civet? Bear? Racoon?

  • Wow, I never knew a cat like this existed. He's all kinds of derpy cuteness <3 I can't get over his unique expression. I would love to see more videos of this fellow ^__^

  • weird but cute

  • he is cute in a scruffy kind of way lol

  • Bad owner: All animals are bad pets!

Pets(of the bad owners): All pet owners are bad!

Of course, all seems bad when you don't have an understanding heart

    (mind too). :D

If you guys want to own a pet (any pet), have it not for the sake of ownership(i want this animal! i want this! i want this! -STOP! you're like a zombie :D). Have a pet for the sake of becoming closer to them and understanding more of them. This is why having pets are better. What I mean "them" is nature, actually.

    Good day!

  • @omega45red

that is such a great comment. too bad more people don't apply that towards having children as well as animals.

  • Omg. What a weird looking animal. Still think its cute though. :P

  • Can you guys please make a video explaining thoroughly why servals and savannah cats make bad pets? So we can all link the video to people who want to deprive and exploit exotic animals. You say they make bad pets but you don't give specific reasons as to why they do.

    Thank you.

  • @ayesha080 Hi, we will try and do this in the future, but the reasons are the same as owning any wild species of cat they spray everywhere, they don't want to be in homes and backyards or to be petted all the time they are still very much wild. Plus when someone buys a savannah cat they are fueling the exotic "pet" trade and this means more breeders abusing and exploiting wild animals because the demand is there :(

  • Thanks.

  • Is Banjo just a standard name for these guys? Dirty Jobs had one on recently and it was named Banjo too!

  • @AnnePackrat That's funny, it's catchy I guess :)

  • Isn't it related to the mongoose? I was reading about fossas and wiki said it was related to this animal.

  • @sladeshade9 yep, if you click on the link in the description to the video you can find out more info on them :)

  • Um may I ask a Question?

Okay, What Is that Animal? What kind of Breed......

  • @Thunderstone102 It is a binturong. It's a type of mammal that lives in Asia and is most closely related to other types of animals called civets and genets.

  • @Thunderstone102 HI, it's a binturong or more commonly referred to as a "bearcat" if you click on the link in the description to the video you can find out more info on them :)

  • it looks like a otter/bear but its sooo cute ^^

  • Banjo is by far one of the sweetest animals on site, he's always been eager to see visitors when we came by on the tour, such a sweetheart i'm glad he enjoyed his holiday snack!

    Sarah Phillips

  • He is beautiful! I didn't even know about these guys :D

  • its an asian viverrid

  • Awesome. Binturong are certainly among the coolest of the lesser known fauna species.

  • that guy is chillin

  • MANBEARPIG!!!!!!!!

  • first video i've ever seen on youtube with no dislikes =P

  • that think is alot less scarry then the cats.. wow the claws are big looks like it needs a bath heck i need a bath lol happy HALLOWEEN BIG CAT .. I might write a senator or something and try to help u make people not own cats .. i agree with your mission.. From OKlahoma Love Kim=)

  • Beautiful video

I really like it. :) Great job!

  • Wait, what? So is it a bear that looks like a cat or is it a cat that looks like a bear? I bet on the later (since this is Big-CAT-Rescue) but I'm not sure... Is it really a cat, technically? Enlighten me, please.

  • @RumbitSwe Neither :) If you click on the link in the description to the video you will find more info on the binturong :) Thanks for watching!

  • Really cute! How is their behavior like? I know they're wild but I wonder how they are with people.

  • @Geruvah Banjo is the friendliest of the three binturongs we have at BCR, but of course they are still wild animals and can be very unpredictable etc...

  • that's a feline?! O_O

  • @chacragirl Nope! If you click on the link in the description to the video you will find more info on the binturong :) Thanks for watching!

  • So are you telling me this is a bear and cat :D? lol or is it just a special species? Ive never heard of it before. I am very intrested in this new creature :DD

  • @LonelyWolfesss Neither :) If you click on the link in the description to the video you will find more info on the binturong :) Thanks for watching!

  • This creature didn't seem to be nearly as interested. In destroying those Pumpkins as the other cats have.

  • never seen one of these before:0

  • how cute i want one!!! :) itsawsome but...never heard of it is it rare??

  • @linkalover1 They are considered rare through much of their range in the wild :(

  • Only two carnivores have prehensile tails: The Binturong and the Kinkajou.

  • Never saw a Animal Like that :o Ohh so cuteee <3

The fur looks bad, but that is normal maybe? *is very interested* =)

  • @SoulDragonit Banjo's fur is fine, it is very course :)

  • @BigCatRescue Ah Okej that is great to hear =)

  • So what kind of animal is that?

  • @alaswoeisme Hi, if you click on the link in the description to the video you can see all the animals they are related too etc... thanks for watching! :)

  • Cute! Its a snack and toy in one :p

  • I just found out about this thing from AronRa's Feline doc on evolution.

  • This looks like a Wolverine to me... and looks more like it could be closely related to some sort of Raccoon!!!

  • @Arthurianwarp

It's in the Feloidea(Cat-like) super familly in Carnivora... so they are technically closer to cats than to racoons... but it's an diverged ancestral species, the only one in it's familly that's survived up till now.

Just like red-pandas are the only survivors of the Alurid familly in Canoidea(Dog like).

  • Cool critter!

  • I didn't know a binturong was a bearcat. I didn't even know bearcats existed, actually, until I saw the title of this video.

  • Bearcats are sooo cute!! XD I wish the language who named them didn't die so we could really know what Binturong means or even how to say it lol.

By the way are they omnivorous? Or do they only eat veggies or fruits??

  • @Ido013 Yep, they're omnivores, Banjo will get his fruit and veg in the a.m then in the evenings when we feed the cats he will get his protein for the day as well...good life!

  • what a strange animal..... looks more like a badger than anything else! ^.^

  • do the bear cat haha love that song

  • what a curious creature.... i have never seen anything like it OwO

  • MANBEARCAT!!! Half man half bear half cat.

  • @Batman83 Now that would be scary!

  • Does this one also smell like popcorn or is the one on Dirty Jobs unique in that respect?

  • bearcat?..first time i hear of it...and i thought i knew all the animals

  • I remember seeing one of these on an old kids show called Zoboomafoo. I also remember them talking about it smelling like hot popcorn.

  • @webrawler I remember that show, its still on where I live

  • @webrawler Yep, they do smell like popcorn/fritos when they get excited :)

  • GAAAW what a cutie <3 ~

  • I've never seen these little guys before, but they look an awful lot like sloths. Any relations there?

  • @PullyElbow27 Hi, if you click on the link in the description to the video you can see all the animals they are related too etc... thanks for watching! :)

  • wait he sorda looks like BANJO KAZOOIE!!!

  • @ScreamingDeadLungs what the hell are you smoking?

  • I have never seen one of these before, kinda cool looking, like an scraggly old drunken midget panther.

  • cutest thing wow thats awesome lmao and hes loving it

  • I think its got a face only a mother could love. LOL. now I know what a Binturong is. never heard of it. thanks.

  • heheh reminds me of a homeless person

  • @GothsAreIdiots hmmm

  • The Binturong is a species of mongoose that lives in Indonesia, they are nocturnal creatures. :)

  • It looks like a HUGE fox or something.

  • what a nice dog cat bear!

  • really coooool

  • I saw one of these with a carnival that had many different "exotic" animals. I worked at the site a few nights so I could help with the animals. They had Baboons (mostly young ones with one adult female), Dromedaries, Jacob Sheep, etc. The Binturong was very calm, actually all of them were, except the Baboons. They were all over their large enclosure. It is really neat to read up on this animal. Thank you for sharing his treat encounter!!!!

  • Popcorn!

  • @ExoticlyExtreme CORRECT!

  • thats not a cat is it?

  • @Teddie120 Nope they are more closely related to civets:)

  • @BigCatRescue bugCATrescue if its nit a cat then nvm i love animals and its nice to rescu any

  • Its Justin Bieber's cat

  • @Belkamaniac Thats in insult to Banjo O_o

  • I didn't know this animal and he's very cute !

  • So cute!!!! I saw one of these on Dirty Jobs, when Mike went to some animal rescue place. Super cute critters! But they can do some damage, one of the girls at the rescue center had a huge scratch on her face because they were trying to trim his toenails, and he was waving around and got her, kind of like a cat does when you hold them for too long xD lol! (i am not saying these are like cats, and should be pets, no no no)

  • @jewelloveit Eeeek, that sounds dangerous, this is why we don't have any contact with any of our animals, if you provide them with trees etc... they can keep their claws in shape by themselves!

  • @BigCatRescue Yeah I know. But i think they were like rehabillitating them or something. It must be hard not ot interact with all the animals there, I mean not treat them like pets but like pet them or talk sweet to them. I find myself talking to my cats in baby voices -.- i feel like such a dork.

  • @BigCatRescue so you have no contact at all with any of the animals that you take in? I feel kinda bad for the ones that are raised on human love and attention, not that I advocate keeping wild cats as pets, but do they seem to still want that attention and affection? I would think that being raised as pets would make them miss human contact...I know that you have to protect yourselves, I'm just wondering.

  • @BigCatRescue If you have no contact with the animals and they are enclosed, maybe you should give them the odd rabbit to chase, I don't mean to be mean to the rabbits, but they breed like rabbits, and I could just imagine the primal joy your cats would feel to catch and eat the odd live animal now and again.

  • it reminds me a racoon xD

  • Looks very happy !!

  • Now that is CUTE!!!!!!!! I love those.

  • Happy bearcat :), love it!

  • Ha ha...looks like, with a little bit more evolution, he might have ended up a porcupine. Yup...he gets my vote! Love him. :-)

  • Yeah That's what I would like to know too? banjo is very cute but I bet he/she can be mean!!

  • @FruittisMaris He's cute and he's a former education animal (he was taken to schools etc.. by his previous owners) so he has a good temperament but they are still wild and can definitely be nasty!

  • @BigCatRescue But what is sweet Banjo?

  • @BigCatRescue is the bear cat considered feline or in the bear family, or both?

  • Is a bearcat actually a member of the cat family? Or maybe raccoon?

  • @scruffylittlecat I see you!

  • @scruffylittlecat No, they're actually related to mongooses.

  • @scruffylittlecat To expand on that, it means that binturongs are more closely related to cats than to raccoons, as both cats and binturongs are members fo the suborder Feliformia, while raccoons are members of suborder Caniformia and more closely related to dogs and bears (though of course, none of them evolved from each other as they're all modern species, they simply share closer common ancestors, like how you share a more recent common ancestor with a sibling than a second cousin).

  • @Macrochenia Thanks for the elaboration. Its a cute little guy, for sure. In such a funny way. I really like him. :)

  • @scruffylittlecat Yeah, binturongs are pretty cool critters.

  • Haha, i remember seeing them when I went, ^^
