Well yes, it was made in the early 80's by Paul Tschinkel, an early video pioneer. It was the first program ever made on Julian Schnabel, and at a time when today's ubiquitous video cameras were not available to very novice. The content and time period is what matters here and not the slick presentations we have today. Made nearly 30 years ago, it is a time when most youngsters today were not even around.
I found this to be a very interesting piece. I recently directed a documentary featurette on Malcolm Morley and he talked about the fear of facing the blank canvass much like Lee Krasner did. It's interesting that Morley has now returned to Photorealism (he HATES that term).

Julian Schnabel is so young in this interview! Before he started wearing pajamas everywhere.
He is one of the most talented filmmakers today - completely original vision.
Basquiat, Before Night Falls, and The Diving Bell and Butterfly, if you haven't seen them watch them asap!!!!
He's a natural storyteller. His movies are so beautiful.
