  • I'm shocked that Autism and Asperger Syndrome is not in your first slide. Anxiety and mood disorders are VERY common in children and adults with Autism. Why don't more professionals address the link between "mental health" issues and developmental disabilities since that what Autism is? How can MDs in the primary care setting benefit from knowing and understanding about Autism and Asperger Syndrome in children and in adults? What about treating women with it? Women have Autism and AS too.

  • @sandbar3000 You make some good points, sandbar3000. This talk in particular is about mood disorders, and the main DSM-IV-TR mood disorders are depression and bipolar disorder. You're right that comoribidities are often common for things like anxiety and depression, for example. Also, this talk is for primary care physicians; I think those treating depression and bipolar in individuals with PDDs such as autism and AS might be more likely to be psychiatrists. I agree with you that

  • @sandbar3000 I agree with you that there should be talk about comorbid mental health issues in people with PDDs, but I think this talk about mood disorders in general is also good in its own right.
