OH! David Othen. If you were wondering about the pics you made for me, Im pretty sure my dads going to give them to me for christmas. (will cullen&mike cullen, if you forgot our names)
About a minute because we were in the workshops and not moving the locomotive. In normal operation I think there are a series of start up checks and procedures that have to be made when a loco is in use.
He told ya the red button was to shut it off, yet you start then press the red kill switch. Listen to what he's telling saying. Cool experience none the less
We were on an official railfan tour from Halifax to VIA's Montreal Maintenance Centre and had purchased all the required safety equipment. VIA was absolutely outstanding.
VIA uses two engineers rather than an engineer and a conductor. One of the engineers drives the train and the other does most of the radio communications. Part way through the trip they change roles! The pasengers are the responsibilty of the Service Manager many of whom were former conductors but they do not do any train operations - they do no shunting and have no reason to be in the loco cab.
Yes that is correct. The systems come on line one at a time so as not to overload the the unit. If you watch the computer display you can see as each system comes on line and draws power from the generator.

I wonder how long you waited for the engine start?
takes a good hour to run through pre-start before you can push start button.

Sniper12890 2 years ago

What crew member would sit in the conducter seat in the cab? Would it be the chief conducter?

oh yeah, no, but i meant, for all the sytems to come up, with so much power it doesnt all come up at once too much initial load.

there must be a relay time system.

You just hold the starter button in until the engine fires (or the batteries go flat!)
