You might want to add a 1000uf cap before the lm7805 and a full wave bridge rectifier on the motor hook the AC connections of the rectifier to the motor.
The cap will help filter spikes and the rectifier will allow the charger work regardless of the direction the handle is cranked.
Lemme just give some props to this guy for his ingenuity. Be happy that while you drone your life away doing what everyone else does, some nerd out there is making some marvelous invention that will be the next hit. Be happy that while you work at an office and divorce the girl you thought loved you(but, left you for some rich guy), this dude will be rich, living it up in some mansion and have stacks of cash, while your living off of your ss check each month.
I think he is great, people like him gonna save the earth. i loved all his videos. and you: your first 6 letters in your youtube name say it all. btw i saw ur ghost video LOL
Hey, I've seen a bunch of these Lego USB chargers, and I have decided to build one, the only thing I need is a suitable motor, can you tell me what one you are using and where I can get one?
yeah i knew the mindstorms sets had motors in them, they were just too expensive for my taste, i found the motor in a kwind up flashlight, made a rectifier, hooked it up to a usb and works great.
now we know who will survive the the energy crisis... that one weird guy who has a basement full of legos

I am using the Lego motor that comes with some of the lego kits. (Google is your best friend)

thanks for your comment, i've decided to use a wind up flashlight generator for the motor, seems to be working well, keep up the good work.
jaredcorn1 4 years ago
U can get one from a mindstorms robotics kit. I plugged the motor to a light sensor and turned it and it lit up!
