J Ruddess couldn't properly improvise over a jazz chord progression to save his life. His "music" is nothing but the same recycled Bach classical licks hes been playing since he was a kid.
Jens not only pretty much invented the whole neo-classical genre with Yngwie, he has also recorded great jazz-fusion albums with some of the best guitarists in the planet: Mike Stern, Alan Holdsworth and Shawn Lane. What has Ruddess done other than his boring solo albums and Cheese Theater?
Rick Wakeman is a great guy and has done a lot of both very cool and difficult stuff (I'm even willing to forgive him for his horrible stage costumes :p) but as a long-time keyboard player myself I am far more impressed by Jens's unbeatable improvisation skills and feeling. So, let us not start a religion war, but... for me Jens is the god of keyboard ^^
totally man....and that statement only can say people who have listen all his stuff ( not only his stratovarius stuff)...his fusion masterpieces from Fission and Heavy Maschinery and his guest appearences...jens is a FUCKING RELIGION...
wow i guess you should know that jannes primary influence and reason that he plays metal is ofcourse jens..so without jens janne would today be somebody else
When it comes to legendary keyboard players, you can't say who is the best. I like many things in JR, but Jens can do some things better. They are both best at what they do. Also, i wouldn't say that JR has better technique than Jens. After you try to play his solos, you understand how hard things he is playing. They are not only fast. :D
Johansson and Rudess both kicks each others asses at the same time. Really fuckin' _HARD_ to say who's best. JR may be technically more advanced, dont know, but wew you cannot insult jens from bad playing . Why to think anything like this? Both are masters of keys , you know
I don't think there's anyone out there with Jens technique, style, melodic sense ,timing, sound and whats more rare: emotion. He plays stuff that gives me chills and for me all others are second best.
I totally agree. Besides Stratovarius's discography I love his album Heavy Machinery, recorded with his brother Anders and the incredible Allan Holdsworth... He really is multifaceted.
I don't think there's anyone out there with Jordan's technique, style, melodic sense ,timing, sound and whats more rare: emotion. He plays stuff that gives me chills and for me all others are second best.
