  • well done!

  • Are you playing this in australia? you seem to be very good with this song.Hope you had a drink of scotch to ssoth that throat of yours after blowing your lungs out!

  • I like the teddy bear on the mantle.

  • Nice. By the way he is playing it. His diaphragm is in motion.

  • haha...when did Tartans become Irish!?

  • I thought that you had kinda played with the audio file after you "recorded" it (sounding like in a cathedral and all), however, the blowing and squeezing seem a little..well..you know, bhmac.

  • @bhmac

Great sound and playing!! How did you get that reverb or echo?

  • @bhmac

Great sound and playing technique, any chance you could send me the sheet music?

  • I watched closely as he played and it sure looks as if nhe is playing to me.

  • and Millie Vanilli was singing

  • yeah , no way the chanter sounds like that, up close and in a room with carpet. Not saying he can't play just, that's not live

  • @ytbsalt moron

  • @ytbsalt Why would you say that? His fingering looks fine to me. The echo sound was obviously acheived through edditing.

  • @MacDonald989 i wouldn't say that its simply the editing that gave the echo. there are rooms in my hous that allow me to do that with my tin whistle and all my other instruments

  • @ytbsalt Of course he is playing: and playing a well balanced, well tuned pipe with nice strong fingers- awa' and crawl back under the stane from whenst you came ya muppet.

  • nice m8 i'm just tryna learn it by sound cause it sounds so good :)

  • Very good!!!

  • does anybody have a copy of this music they could e-mail me thanks.

  • very nice - bagpipes always make my heart sad

  • very nice

  • did u know that your bass and one tennor cut off at the start. well at lest thats what it sounds like.

  • very well tuned. fantastic sound (that house has great acoustics for piping!)

  • What is the significance of this song?

  • irish civil war, the pipes are calling men to fight for liberty and all that.

  • it's about a guy dying, and that he shouldn't refuse it, just let go. Which is why it is played at funerals.

  • I think its about a mom who had 3 children and 2 died in the war and she was sending off her third child because a women sings it.

  • Oh shit, now that I actually go look at the lyrics, you're totally right.

    /facepalm

  • Its alright, im 100% and I didnt know what it was about until my mom told me a few years back. My grandpa and uncle died and this was played there because they're both 100% also.

  • Its heritage.

  • bravo.

  • can play this on the Clarinet but i'd also like to learn this on my pipes it's a nice song.

  • that's a well tuned instrument,

    good stuff

but why the military stop? lol

  • It was illegal to play pipes in Ireland(cuz of england) so it died out for a while. Then we made/ or helped develop the Uillean pipes. The Irish warpipe was continued in use in Scotland, and they eventually added an extra drone thus creating the Great Highland Warpipe. The Scots are the innovators of modern Warpipe playing, but never let anyone try and tell you the Irish didnt set the foundation for it, or that it isnt as important in Ireland as it is in Scotland. Na Gaeil Abú! Up the Gaels!

  • Playing the bagpipes is as old in Irish scottish tradition as Scotland. If not older! Irish soldiers were the first to bring the pipes to war with them. In fact, it was Irish mercenaries playing the pipes while fighting/working for England against Scots that gave the Scottish the idea to bring the pipes to battle. The Kilt was developed long after the through Gaelic era, and was never worn in ireland. Kilt=Scottish.

  • so powerful

  • thanks for posting. awesome.

  • Great stuff.

  • amazing! esspacially couse your living room sounds like a church from inside o.O

  • Hey, Master Fat!!

  • Beautiful!

  • my fucking hero.

  • It's a kilt you dumb fuck!

  • Felt like cryin'...

  • And so you think that's a good way to spend your life...stirring up arguments and bad feeling. There are enough problems in the world already, to be sure.

  • hahaha!!!!! oh the world is awful, poor me, sob sob!!!! get over it you moron, he was making a joke and you all took it sooooo fucking seriously hahaha!!!! you look so stupid lol :D

  • durrr fuckin loser with all the time in the world..u dont know shit

  • just making sure

  • i pray your kidding but if you really are a retard or a typical gator/sec fan IT'S FUCKING KILT NOT A DRESS A KILT.

Def: The kilt is a traditional garment of modern Scottish and Celtic (more specifically Gaelic) culture typically worn by men.

  • Weel played Laddie!

  • I'm learning this right now. This song is beautiful.

  • this song is beautiful on the pipes and very sad

  • this song just makes me crie for no specific reason... Especially when it's played on the pipes!

It's really touching, and well played! thumbs up for this one!

  • weird echo, must be a massive room

  • The teddy bear on the mantle enjoyed this tune

  • (claping)

good job iron lung. i love that song.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • awesome

  • I want the sheet music for this song!!!

  • um... yeah noone would record a high like that ( no offense)

plus those pipes sound amazing in your house, must be big

  • nice job not a recording...

  • somehow that song makes me cry U.U beautiful, mate.

  • I hate to tick everybody off, but that guy was not actually playing that, it was a recording....

  • Having watched the production I can assure you it is not a recording, it is a compliment to piper Hamish that you think it is. Regards piper Macca.

  • you are a fuckin jackass. clearly you know nothing about the pipes. hes inside a house a fairly large house, which means they are going to sound different. that house probably has a fairly high ceiling therefore making the video sound like a recording. keep in mind ACOUSTICS!

  • so who are you replying to?

  • ur right that dude that said it's a recording is a complete pompus..... ARRRRHHHHHHH!

  • Wonderfull but damn ! I guess your neighbours are used to it !!!

  • Clean, very nicely done. I love to hear Danny Boy belted out on Highland pipes..

  • wrong pipes for this songthose are scottish pipes and yes there's a dif but still well done

  • umm yeah just one problem the irish used the pipes before the scots and secondly when dealing with an insturment its called a tune not a song

  • except one problem. I play the pipes and did extensive research on them. Yes there is a differance between the highland pipes and the shetland pipes and the small pipes. But look closesly at the drones. Highland. he may have the drones configured so that the tennor's out sound the base and yes acoustics factor in. but the still remains..... proprioty and edicit. you could have said the same thing without having to curse. nice to know somebody's parents taught them propor manners.

  • You're retarded. The first people to use the pipes were the greeks. Then blah blah blah, throughout the ages the scots invented their own THEN the irish invented theirs. Irish Warpipes were just Highland Pipes brought over from scotland. After a while they then made the Uilleann pipes. THOSE are irish.

You're right about the "song/tune" thing, but dude, stop being a jackass. Besides misinforming people who may not know any better, you're just trying to grief anyone you can and it's lame.

  • actualy it was the egyptians

  • youre an asswipe

the irish had their own pipes w/ 2 drones which the scots adopted but added the 3rd and tallest drone which is the bass

  • the scottish added a second tenor

  • Nobody plays the Irish Warpipes in Ireland now, they play the GHB in it's stead and yes there are other smallppes like ulliann but playing on the GHB is still very Irish.

  • GHBs are Scotish not irish, but good try

  • I never said they weren't Scottish in origin, look at the discussion in threaded mode. I said the Irish no longer play the warpipes (their own native bagpipe with 2 drones) they *play* the GHB and that this *playing* is part of a long Irish tradition, anyone suggesting otherwise (the post I replied to), doesn't know the tradition. I'm Scottish, I play the GHB, my dad played the GHB and my grandfather played the GHB, I know what GHB stands. Playing the GHB is a old Irish tradition.

  • Look idiot, are you incapable of reading the posts you reply to? Read the discussion in threaded mode. As I said I know what GHB stands for. The Irish no longer play the war pipes they play the GHB and I know the origins of the instrument. It is an Irish tradition. That doesn't detract from the Scottish heritage and tradition you numpty. I'm Scottish, I play the GHB, my father played them and my grandfather did, so save your bile. Eejit.

  • Bagpipes aren't just from Irish/Scottish culture

Even Russians have an ancient type of bagpipe, as well as Bulgarians, Italians, Turks, etc - many cultures have them, even predating Scots/Irish pipes (and English)

P.S. I agree this Ravennnnnn is an offensive dickwad!

  • Yes, I know this, I posted the same to other threads on youtube. We're talking specifically about GHB here. Irish warpipes and GHB are identical except for an extra tenor drone on the GHB which makes the dispute here particularly silly. The music and fingering is the same. Irish regiments used the warpipes until relatively recently when they switched to the GHB but there was a lot of cultural exchange for centuries prior this, with accounts or "Irish piobreachd" played on GHB at gatherings.

  • Beautiful. Danny boy on the pipes ah it doesn't get much better.
