  • I know it already but I didn't have enough space to write down everything......I want to say that people should keep cats and dogs inside but not outside....I am a big animal lover and I don't like people who don't treat their pets good. And I agree with people who saying that people should adopt adult cats and give them second chance...My housemate had adult cat and gave away to Fancy animal rescue team...It broke my heart..I couldn't find a pet friendly place to move and live so I can keep him

  • I read some comments from people who let their cats outside so I will make my comment too....Cat should be indoors but not outdoors....It is more safe for cats and you don't have to worry if cat is too cold or to hot outside....(if really someone worries about it if let kittens or cats outside especially when is bad weather)..One day I wanted to call animal rescue police because one of neighbors cat was freezing outside and was so hungry...But owner took her inside when he heard it...

  • @ammelica The temperature's the least of a cat's worries outdoors. There's also cars, coyotes, loose dogs, poisons, stray cats with diseases, etc, etc, etc. If you want a great article about all the dangers of the outdoors Google "Indoors or outdoors littlebigcat".

  • I definitely say you want to adopt an adult cat if you go to the shelter. Sure, kittens are cute but you don't know what their personality and temperament are going to be like. With adult cats you already know what they're like, so when you meet them at the shelter you'll know if you're adopting a nice kitty or an aggressive one, where as with kittens you don't know what you're getting into, they could turn out to be vicious and bite and scratch you!

  • @LINDSAYLIKEOMG Yup, so true! Percy was my first adopted-as-an-adult shelter cat five years ago. Since then I've only gotten adults.

  • I think that adult cats are a better choice a) They deserve a second chance, they are at bigger risk for euthanasia than a kitten b) They're already trained, you don't have to worry about accident (maybe hairballs LOL) c) they're personalities have already bloomed, if you get a kitten and expect a lap cat, he/she may turn out to be skittish or not want to be picked up or cuddled. Plus, a lot of people don't have time (like me) to keep their eyes glued on their kitten every second of the day. Wi

  • @lolkayla100 Well cats can't be trained not to hack up hairballs. Regular grooming will prevent that ;)

  • @Ferretocious I got my cat at the shelter and she was 6 months old, and you really shouldent be juding kittypr1nc3ess, my cat stays outside all the time shes not a useless play toy laying on the couch, she kills the mice and birds that eat our seeds in our garden I think animals are much happier when they get something to do all day instead of sleeping lazily around the house

  • @mirandamadness748 You got your cat from a shelter and allow it to free roam? Most shelters make you sign a contract stating that you WON'T let the cat out. And one housecat can kill out to a THOUSAND birds and small animals since they kill for sport - not food. Housecats can eradicate entire populations of songbirds. Shame on you for not caring about your local wildlife. Cats were domesticated THOUSANDS of years ago so there's nothing "natural" about letting them free roam.

  • We adopted an adult cat when I was about 8 years old. She died a few years ago, but I've started to miss the times when I had a wonderful cat in my life. I'm 17 now, but I've decided to adopt an adult cat when I move away from home, of course making sure that I have enough money and time for that cat. And even though I feel like I'm 100% sure about this decision, I now have a few years time to really make sure I truly want this. :) Can't wait to save a life and expand my family

  • My mom and dad had 9 cats total, most of them where from shelters, rescued of the street or where bought from straight owners who couldnt take care of them annymore. After adopting them they became strictly indoor cats (with exception of our enclosed backyard). I was a little kid and never knew all 9 of them but i have fond memories of the ones i remember.

ugh, if i could i'd tell you about all my cats lol but i would end up rambling.

Annyway, great job on adopting a cat from a shelter! kudos!

  • i had a shelter kitty

she was a maine coon named sunshine

she was 8 mos (estimated) she was oh so sweet. she got all in the covers with me in bed. she ran away for adventure, now she's gone

  • @kittypr1nc3ss Highly doubtful a Maine Coon that young would end up at a shelter. And cats don't "run away" - but they do end up killed when their irresponsible owners let them free roam. Why did you? Surely the shelter contract you'd keep this cat safely INDOORS.

  • @Ferretocious

they thoguht she was a year old

plus i always let my cat out because they like it so don't judge me. >:(

  • @kittypr1nc3ss if a baby wanted to drink vodka - would you let it? It was up to you to protect your cat and you CHOSE to let it free roam. And since you did, it's now dead. Sad.

  • @Ferretocious i agree, my last maine coon was a stray and an indoor/outdoor cat so we let her roam when she wanted to go outside and she always came back. she passed away at an old age 3 years ago. but i would never let my scottish fold outside without a harness because she came from a shelter and is most definitely an indoor cat.

  • @wunderbeast You let a Maine Coon wander outdoors? Sorry - but that wasn't a Maine Coon unless you had TICA, CFA or ACFA papers for it. A lot of people think every longhaired cat is a Maine Coon when in reality only 3% of cats on the planet are a breed at all.

  • @Ferretocious oh really? i'll send you a pic then you can tell me, i had no idea it was that rare

  • I adopted an adult cat today :) Leo is the best cat EVER!

  • all ur adopted cat is a beauty....wish spore got dis kinda of adopted cat

  • I adopted a 2-year-old sweet tabby cat from the shelter and everyone loves her! She loves to play, has an adorable meow and is very affectionate with everyone.

  • Hi there!

I hope to adopt an adult shelter cat soon like you have done! Unfortunately, I have mild cat allergies, but I won't let that stop me because I LOVE cats! I have found medication. I also plan to use an air purifier. I just wanted to say that your cats are GORGEOUS!!!

  • Great to hear and thanks :) Now that I know how great adult cats are I'll never pass them over for a kitten. These three are far more loving and playful and bonded to me than any kitten I've ever had. In fact, the one cat in my home that's skittish is the only one I've had since she was a kitten!

  • Aww..Percy, Penny and Mocha are so lovely. I adopted an adult shelter cat too.

  • thanks for your yahoo comment! I was just curious, I've only had one pet cat for a year, he was a stray, and he left to go live with someone else. I am not very familiar with cats.

  • Keep the new one INDOORS! I'm sold on adult shelter cats after these three wonderful kitties. Kittens are a handful - love the adults!

  • I thought I wanted to foster kittens.

It's been two years since I took any in, and then I found Lucky and her four kittens.

I love them, I'm happy I gave them a chance at a good life.

But I will NEVER get a kitten again! lol I will be so happy (and sad, I will miss them) when they're gone.

Adult cats are the way to go!

Proud owner of two 3yr olds and a 10 yr old cat

  • I find myself easily annoyed with hyperactive kittens when I'm with them at shelter events. I forget how easy I have it with my adult cats LOL I have ferrets as well in my house and had a kitten her once that they were all trying to scruff and drag off to their hidey holes LOL

  • I adopted a 4 year old cat and a 1 year old cat from a shelter (or you could say they adopted me-lol)

  • Yay good for you! I'll never get a kitten now that I know how great the adult cats are :)

  • I just adopted an adult cat from a shelter. Two reasons: One, you skip the phase of them going all over the floor, and two, the adult cats are passed over too often and they deserve a chance to be considered. If people want to adopt a kitten, that's fine - but they shouldn't just rule out the adult cats by default - they should be given a chance...take a look and meet them - they would at least enjoy the chance to get some attention from you while you are at the shelter...they're lonely.

  • Great comments - and you're SO right! The love they pay back to their adoptive owners is tremendous. They really seem to know that you've saved them.

  • @ReuWil I'd love to take an adult when I adopt, really I would! But I have my three birds to consider, I need a cat that will not think they are food right off. I have to get a kitten in order to at lest train them a bit. And yes I tried having some adult cats up for adoption visit the house. But they nearly took the bird cage down. I'll just have to get a kitten.

  • @SpockLover27 SO not true! A kitten would probably be FAR more likely to kill your birds then a laid back older cat!

  • @Ferretocious Did you read everything I said? It clearly stats that I have tried to have older cats over at my house, and they almost got at the birds. Our cats were still somewhat young when I got my first bird...

  • God the kittens big. How old is he? Is he your kitten i hope he is cause who elses kitten would you have? You neighbours?

  • Um, what kitten? If you'd read the description of this vid - and the name of this vid - you'd see this was all about ADULT cats that came from shelters. They're 4 and 5 years old.

  • Adult shelter cats (or even strays I've taken in) can be sooo very appreciative. It's like they know that YOU really wanted them. Some of mine have been very old and died within a few years. I grieve, then get another cat. I know they were all very well loved and cared for in their last years. And I know they knew it, too. Adult shelter cats are so well worth everything.

  • The very first cat I placed for the shelter I volunteer with (where Penny and Mocha came from) was a 10 year old Black and White sweetie. We had lots of kittens there but this wonderful couple picked him. He was a big lump of a cat in bad need of TLC and exercise. When the husband picked him up the cat started treaded and DROOLING - cutest thing ever. They fell in love instantly and adopted him that day :)

  • My little Siamese was adopted from the local shelter. I cant imagine why anyone gave her away, she is so sweet and very loving. She is two years old and the people at the shelter were so suprised that I wanted an adult cat over a kitten.

  • Shelter workers were surprised or other people there to adopt were surprised? Shelter workers should be grateful when adults get adopted - not surprised. They're quite aware how sweet the adults are.

  • In My Own opinion, Shelter cats -Even Fully grown- Are the Sweetest,Most lovable Cats you Could possibly ever find. I work part time at a Shelter, and i Love handling Most of the Kitties That come in. Most of them just want to Love on you and play usually. :)

As asdfasdfasd Said; You really are making a difference By posting Videos on how Well shelter Animals can be :) !

  • Thanks :) I promote the adult shelter cats when I show these three as well. Most people don't realize how quickly they can adapt to new homes and other pets. I have a fourth cat - Luna - that you never see in the vids. She's really shy and hides out most of the time or snoozes in her bed on top of my dryer. And this is a cat I've had since she was a kitten! So it's complete BS that you "have to have a cat from kittenhood" for it to bond to you/be friendly/playful, etc.

  • I adopted my short haired cat named Oscar from a Shelter he was a year old, we were thinking of going for an younger cat but all the shelter had was long haired and my boyfriend is allergic to long hairs. Oscar is a doll, I've never had a better cat. I will never adopt another kitten, cause I hate litter training. Oscar already knew what the litter box was, though he likes to play in more then actually use it. Really happy we didn't have to move from Idaho to Washington with a kitten as well.

  • you're really making a difference with your percy-penny-mocha-ferret videos. i'm picking up my very first cat ever in a couple of days: a 6yr old persian who'd lived her life in filth, breeding for a kittymill. she's skittish and needs a lot of toy therapy. But you show us in every video that great things transpire when you share your heart and patience...and ferrets. THANK YOU!

  • Do be sure to email me pics!!!!

  • Cuties, as usual! I have to ask, speaking of adopting adult cats, did it take those three long to learn their new names, or were those the names they came with? One would think, being an adult cat, it would take them a little longer to get used to responding to a new name than it would for a kitten, but I have never adopted an adult cat before, so I'm not sure.

  • I picked all the names. Penny was "Tana" from her former owner, Percy didn't have a name since he was found as a stray - the shelter had him as "Sylvester" and Mocha's name was "Jezebelle" from her former owner. Cats can quickly learn a new name. It's really not so much the word but the tone of your voice that they respond to. Mocha's just starting to learn hers. Percy and Penny learned much quicker. Percy can be called anything from "Percy" to "Percival" to "P Kitty" and he comes running

  • Oh, cool, thanks :)

P Kitty, that's a great name, makes him sound like a rap star.

  • I love adopting pets, sometimes i find its best to adopt than buy a baby that needs trianing or that is to much of a handful.

We took in lots of stray cats and dogs and even a PIG when i was growing up, and we did actually adopt a cat at one stage who died of a tumor.

We cant adopt just yet, we have no room for any more dogs or cats.

But i love your kittys, Penny has the most sweetest face, percy has such a great look and mocha OMG! she is just beauty!

  • Thank you :) Of the one dog, six ferrets and four cats in my home all of them are from shelters expect for the eldest ferret who was bought at a pet store 6 1/2 years ago.

  • Ok, never mind, I adore all of your cats. XD

  • Penny is soooo precious! I love watching her.

  • What lovely cats. I enjoy your videos, and aspire to have a similar houseful of ferrets and felines. :) I'd never thought of adopting an adult cat before, so thank you for posting this.

  • I hadn't, either, till the day I went looking for a new kitten and found 2 1/2 year old Percy the Persian. I had no idea adult shelter cats would so easily adapt to new homes - they're wonderful! I'll never adopt a kitten again!

  • They are soo beautiful, nice to hear your giving them a loving home!! :o)

  • I love cats and ferrets, but I am deathly allergic to cats.
