Other contributors to this problem are large fishtanks and built in swimming pools (in luxury homes). Many homes have bath vent fans exhausting into an attic. This would also be a major contributor especially in family situations where the shower is heavily used.
@DOLRED----- Right they also do. Thank you for sharing this with this blog. Indoor pools are big time bad idea. Not only do bathroom fans cause mold they are major thermal by-bass which also leads to heat loss and ice dams.
Dear sir: i am in the process of venting my mom's dryer. I would prefer tp vent out through one of the glassblock windows. She would like a professional to come over and drill a hole in the side of her wall. This is an older bungalow home and we
are working on waterseepG ISSUES.what might you reccomend--glass b lock or wall?
Dear sir: i am in the process of venting a dryer. I have seen your rule of 25 for venting. alow and a bit old. what might yu suggest??
thanks,
robMy questions is--i prefer to vent my duct through ablock window versus going into the building and bustiion out a whole, My house -mom's house is a bung
Just thought you would like to correct your audio information within your presentation. Moist air is never lighter it is always heavier. Air flow can force moist air into any free flowing negative preasure areas thus inducing mold spore transfer to other points of a structure.
This guy actually knows what he is talking about. Thank you for confirming a lot of information.
I have a question
Our attic did not have adequate ventilation at it's base around the perimeter hence we have mold just like the picture at 0:41 how do you recommend I remove it?
There are some people in my family who had black mold under their wood floors so it warped and was coming out of the ground and it took them 3 weeks to find out were it was coming from so it spread around their house and they had to tear it down. Now they're building a new house where the old one was. I swear, the closet that connects to our crawl space smells really musty. The guy who lived in my house before really messed it up. Now the floors in my house are buckling. I hate my house.
Black mold in attics is very serious and should be taken care of immediately. The longer you wait, the more you are at risk. I can relate because a few years ago, we had an experience dealingwith mold a few summers ago and it can definitely affect your health.
I don't know if its black mold or not but I've heard that some molds can be extremely dangerous to your health...the tenants living in my basement moved out the other day and they left the place a disgusting mess and I found mold under the rug in one bedroom just wanna know if it could potentially be dangerous or not. thanks
Funny, I do have four gold fish that I put in this crawl shot for my real-estate seminar. Class laughs. I tell them that we sent fish to our lab. I show them the goldfish ballet, a very funny 2 min video. You can find this on the net . Email and i will attach it. Black spots on sheathing means, you have too much humidity in your home during winter months. Moist air is condensating on your sheathing. Black spots are mold. Basement humidity in the winter should be under 30%.
My basement subpump empties directly into my attic!

@turbo11man
Wrong.
You need to do the math. If moist air does not rise it would not rain. Look it up on the webb. Google it.

this is fake, normally black molds are healthy you can even stay years in this attic without developing any disease or even a mild allergy !

I have black mold in my attic due to a leaky skylight. The leak is fixed. Can I clean the mold up myself with bleach and water?
