tried this. everything went fine transferring the data from a CD image onto the USB stick, but when i stick it into my netbook, it comes up with a 'syslinux 3.82 2009-06-09 Ebios copyright 1994-2009 Peter Anvin et al' message, and hangs there, without going into the ubuntu installer boot menu as i've seen many tutorials do time and again. After a while, the netbook starts beeping and only responds if i hit the power button.
Any ideas? The netbook already has linpus installed..
Your flash drive may turn to junk pretty quickly (6 months maybe). I would recommend buying a USB hard disk instead of a flash drive, because flash drives are not designed for this sort of load.
I installed Ubuntu on USB as persistencrashet install. It boots but the gui/desktop crashes and it auto switches to text mode. I tried some commands like sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg But it seems like ubuntu 10.10 doesn't support it anymore. How the hell do I fix it then?
@chaukar i have a no idea for your xorg problem sorry :(
If you need detailed help, you can find solutions from ubuntu-wiki and ubuntu forums. If you see the error messages, get a screenshot with your camera and ask the ubuntu gurus. I was installed from live cd with standart installation, only i was selected my usb drive successfuly.
