  • great song and Dennis was the man!

  • great song, great live performance and great performer, R.I.P. Dennis.

  • Music that lasts forever. Dennis can still bring it.

  • Isn't it amazing how good music still sounds good, 40, 50 years later?

  • magic

  • This was my favorite song from the Classic IV. Another great singer who left us too soon.

  • great song !!!! He sounded great !!!

  • Wow.These have to be the coolest white people on the planet. GOD BLESS THEM!

  • Dennis is a crowd mover !!! The original recording (as well as this remake) goes to the deepest part of my soul; I breathe this song when it is playing.

Great lead vocal; mystical background voices. No modern song can touch that generation's music.

  • It has been three years ago today Dec 7 2008 that u left us Dennis u are very much missed, I hope more people realize how special you music really is RIP.

  • We miss you Dennis the whole state of Michigan loves u!!!!!!!!!

  • absolutamente conmovedor, maravilloso

  • why cant he just sing it right

  • Beautiful how nearly everyone's into it and Gene Hughes pitches in. What a shame that Dennis had no other quality material than those that made up his its with CIV. Their writers apparently ran out of gas and the hitmobile ground ti a halt. I'll always contend that anyone who had a pop song with a smooth sax(Al Stewart, Chris Rea, Glen Frey) got it from their records.

  • This classic has tons and tons and tons of soul. Goodness, it is so beautiful.

  • Please somebody can tell who are those persons seating around him??

i could like know... God bless you

  • @rollindeperu

Too many to name. Please look at other videos on my channel. Most of the people you see are performers whose songs from this show I have uploaded.

  • keep it up doowop joe. one of my fav songs

  • DENNIS YOST, NOT AN EVERYDAY NAME, AND NOT A NAME MANY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE HEARD OF, BUT WHAT A VOICE, THIS CLIP, SHOWS HE NEVER LOST IT, EVEN IN HIS 60S. SAD TO HEAR OF HIS PASSING. REST IN PEACE DENNIS X

  • Excuse me.. Now I can die in peace!! Ah....

  • What an amazing creative musician Dennis Yost was. Thanks for the memories I will keep forever.

  • So sad he passed on but his music will always be around.

  • @tsinoyboy I am sad to learn of his passing. Saw him in concert way back in October, 1980 along with "Paul Revere and the Raiders," "The Association," and "Wolfman Jack." My how time flies!!!

  • Man I'm getting old. My college roomate who was very talented had a band of his own that was always asked to Open for Yost before he came on with his entourage.

  • He did a gig at my HS in the sixties ...song was top of the charts and the sax player probably was the original one . Two influences that last till today . I remember his hair was down like the beatles but after the concert he combed it back! Man I thought I hit on something here because he looked so good in the video but to find he is dead is a real awake call .... he wasnt so much older than my 58 years !

  • @glenlo1

Very cool to have seen Dennis in high school. Yep, none of us know when our time will be up. That is the theme of a song done by my good friends from Germany, the Crystalairs. Look under my videos for "Slow Down" by the Crystalairs. That is one of only a couple I have on my channel that is not a true video, but wanted to post that one for multiple reasons.

  • @glenlo1 Plus in the early 90's he ruptered a vocal chord also, so he isnt at his best here, even though he still sounds great here, this was onei of mt favorute groups, Dennis Yost had a Unique soulful voice , really miss, him. His wife is on here a lot, posting. This entertainment business is full of people who left us too soon.. Dont want to think about it...So sad. Dennis was in his early 60's if not mistaken

  • Wish I had a copy of this on DVD...Nice.

  • @larrydh57

As noted on other segments I have posted from this show, the DVD collection from the show is available again. The only place people have told me they found it is on a website for CFRVideos. The program is called Rock n Roll Graffiti.

  • I'e read the comments of Dennis Yost being alive and dead. The following is from Wikipedia:

Dennis Yost died of respiratory failure, on December 7, 2008, at the age of 65.

    RIP Dennis

  • @Starrman69 Dennis suffered a fall in 2006 that resulted in a brain injury. He was hospitalized from that moment until his death.

  • @Dancer810 Right, the injury was listed and the final word was the respiratory failure in 2008.

  • The love of my life (Kathy) and I saw Dennis Yost & The Classics Four in June 1969 (Melodyland in Anaheim, California) during my 2 week leave before heading off to Vietnam. We were engaged at the time (I was 21, she was 20) but on 04 August 69 I received a letter from her telling me that she just couldn't wait for me. It's been more than 40 years since I received that letter and I still can't let go of the memories.

  • Played music w/ Dennis in high school, my first paying gig. Got grounded from guitar practice for bad grades, Dennis had a Les Paul jr he'd let me practice. As I was looking thru some stuff @ their apartment, I heard that he'd put a Jimmy Reed record on. When I turned around, it was no record. It was Dennis, sounding so dead-on like Jimmy Reed, and playing the simple guitar riff, that he'd completely fooled me. Awesome natural talent, even at 15-16 years old.

  • @manabozho

Thanks for the great comments. Always special when I hear from folks who performed with the artists.

  • First time I've seen this live performance. In the late 60's Dennis and his Classics IV performed at our college prom, along with The Vogues. A great show, from two great groups.

  • Dennis Yost is alive. He left a legacy to all good music lovers: Stormy, Spooky and the beautiful Traces. I eventually sing the three of them very week to keep me alive

  • I love this song.....A real classic, thanks for sharing!!!

  • Really sweet performance. I just love how Dennis connected with the audience members, how much the audience clearly loved the song and how tight the band was. As others have said, it's sad to know that Dennis is gone... but I'm sure that he is singing in that wonderful baritone with other rock and roll angels.

  • great song and performer, it's sad to know Dennis is gone now.

  • I love the melody of the song...I heard this song on RJ and waited that he DJ will identify the title...Thanks I found it in youtube. It's a nice and lovable song...

  • NICE TUNE, AND WELL SUNG BY DENNIS, SO SAD, RIP.

  • I really love this video. Thanks so much for sharing with us..

  • I am 51 now, back in 68, this was the first tune I played live on the drums, as my cousin played guitar, Traces was the next one. Dennis had that cool smokey chick magnet voice.

  • ONE OF MY FAVORITE SINGERS!!!! GO, DENNIS! MISS YOU BRO!!

  • I'M A GREAT FAN OF DENNIS YOST AND THE CLASSIC IV...

CAN ANYBODY UPLOAD THE SONG "WE MISS YOU" from the ALBUM "SONG"..... A VERY NOSTALGIC MELODY...

SALAMAT PO (THANK YOU VERY MUCH)

  • A personable a gentle man. Worked with him once a long time ago and a high light of my musical career.

All ways possessed and uncanny connectedness with the song and his audiences whether live or in the studio.

  • This is the real thing! I worked for and with James Brown from 1966 until his death on Christmas morning of 2006. Seldom got the chance to see "My" groups because we did 300-400 shows per year, and spent so much time overseas. Or agent, Universal Attractions booked many oldies and sometimes we got to see these acts in Vegas, or other towns. I remember shindig and hullabaloo and Lloyd thackston, but we always came in right behind or in front of the beach set music set. Mr. Yost was the best!

  • @ILIGANO

WOW! Thanks for sharing all your great comments! You must have many, many great memories from all those years of performing with so many different artists. Sounds like you could do a great book about them.

  • @ILIGANO Cheers to you man! I know how much work it is to tour and you just have no life outside of the tour. I toured with a big country act and heard the same set list(and between songs chit-chat) for 62 concerts...

  • What a nice video of the late great Dennis Yost. Still sounds great after all those years.....handsome as ever.....We all miss you Dennis....RIP my friend - your great voice and music will live on forever.....

Hope to see Tom and the new Classics IV someday.

  • No Way I Could Love A Singer Any More Than "Dennis Yost"

His Voice "Cried" To Me..........rip Dennis, God we Miss You.

  • Thank you very much for sharing this video with us all. I don't know that I and many others would have had the chance to ever see this. Thanks again. Lee

  • que en paz descance.

  • It is wonderful seeing the joy that Dennis had singing this great song and how much his peers loved it as well.!

  • Was this part of a documentary or something? aint no classics IV without Dennis Yost. RIP my brother

  • @bwoman01

This was a PBS special in 1999 called "Rock and Roll Graffiti." Most people did not see this one, and it was not available for many years. If you go thru my channel you will see performances by most of the people who are in the audience.

  • @DooWopJoe Oh, I see. Yes, I checked out your vids. Question though, who is he singing with at 0:16. Also who is the woman in pink at 0:26 and 1 :33? The guy to her left in red pants? And the woman at 1:42? Oh, and do you know if this show was done before or after the throat surgery DY had? He sounds great, but just wondering....

  • @bwoman01

The man singing at 0:16 is the late Gene Hughes, lead of the Casinos, who did "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye." The woman in pink is Ketty Lester, who sang "Love Letters" and was an actress who was on Little House On the Prairie, among other things. The guy in the red pants is Jewel Akens, who sang "The Birds and the Bees." I forget the woman at 1:42 -- she is not a singer, but was a booking agent that had worked with many of these artists over the years.

  • @DooWopJoe Thanks for that info. Are you just a knowlegeable fan or are you connected to the industry also?

  • @bwoman01

I am a fan, a collector, and a DJ on the Internet on the Doowop Cafe. I have become friends with a few of the artists, particularly some of the foreign doowop groups, like the Chaperals, Crystalairs, Earth Angels, and Roomates. You can find videos of them on YouTube, including some on my channel.

  • @DooWopJoe Thanks for the info, and thanks for posting these vids.

  • @bwoman01 Dennis hand picked his sucessor. I do agree that it isn't the same without Dennis, but the guy Dennis chose is very talented and and a truly wonderful person and I speak from personal expirence with regards to that person.

  • @lauraswylie

Yes, I read that he had handpicked his successor. I hope to hear the new line up at some point, but I will always miss DY.

  • Love it & miss it. RIP Dennis. I listen to you everyday

  • Dennis had one great voice, Throaty, resonant baritone, a voice that filled up the whole spectrum. It was so round, so full.

  • Timeless and haunting, remember listening to this album as a kid. maybe that's why (at 23) I dont care for today's radio drool.

  • Absolutely fantastic....thank you DooWopJoe for this...this song has so many memories for me and it makes me happy to see Dennis singing so well.

  • @Vstar4me

    No, it is not.

  • So much talent in that intimate group of Pop Singers too...what a gem of a production. I was living in Allanta[College] during Most of THe Classic1V's hits, And had the chance to see them in concert in 1968 ,But had the Chicken pox, such a bummer... I was quarenteend....

  • Dennis Yost died of respiratory failure, on December 7, 2008, at the age of 65

  • It's really sad and hard to watch this without bringing tears to my eyes.I loved Dennis's songs with The Classics IV,and I just can't help from crying.I was a huge huge fan of theirs and of Dennis's back in the 60's and 70's.Dennis always seemed to care about the fans whenever I saw him on tv.The songs themselves are sad enough, let alone even much sadder knowing that Dennis is no longer around to sing them anymore.RIP Dennis.

  • This was the best performance and song of this special, great show!

  • Thanks for posting this, DooWopJoe! Loved this! And Dennis' voice retained his magic through the years. Unbelieveably the same as his 60's hit!

  • Thanks for the video if it weren't for good people like you that liked this kind of music, it woundn't never be possible to watch this great performer nowhere else.

Stormy ke buenisima cancion me enkanta mucho!!!!!!!!!!

  • RIP DENNIS, WE WILL ALWAYS BE SO BLESSED BY YOUR GIFTS! (DENNIS DIED IN 2008 FROM A BRAIN INJURY THAT TOOK PLACE IN 2005 AT HIS HOUSE WHEN HE FELL DOWN THE STAIRS)

  • Oh Stormy....bring back Dennis Yost...:(

  • Great!! Don't know how I missed this one. He was a great performer as well as a friend. Thanks for posting this one!

  • Thank you so much for posting these R&R Graffitti performances.

Whoever was responsible for collecting, recording and finding these great artists Thank you.

  • Makes you wonder what will be today's classics tomorrow???

  • Thanks DooWopJoe for posting this video. I would love to see the whole show. Could you tell me where I could get it?

  • Just looked on the web and found the info many people have been asking about the 37+ artists that were at the taping of Rock and Roll Grafitti.....found out that there is a DVD set with additional "behind the scenes" footage.....here's the ordering info ... to order go to Country Friends Videos on the web

  • @lvyost I love this Performance , Linda. Dennis seemed so at ease in this intimate group of his pears. And really enjoying singing the song. I never get tired of hearing him here at this Rock and Roll Grafitti, in 1999...Outta site.........

  • @jjs499 {peers]

  • Kitty Lester sitting out there I love her

  • @hidoll22

Yes, that is Ketty Lester. If you look on my channel you will see her singing "Love Letters." It was the emotional peak moment of the special.

  • @DooWopJoe "Love Letters" is a great song, overlooked and under-appreciated, from a great era.

  • @57highland

Agreed, and it was far and away the most emotional performance of this event. Everyone was crying, as has everyone I know who has seen the entire show with all the talking.

  • Beautiful song, excellent video,

  • Dennis really got screwed, just like Pete Ham & Tom Evans and I can certainly relate. After him they evolved into the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

  • @AstoriaMichelle99 not really he did just well. The Classics IV were much more successful than The ARC. According to his wife He Dennis was very happy.

  • So sad I just found out he died not long ago.

  • Awesome he sounds even better older.

  • Man, this is so nice. Really enjoyed this. Thanks for posting.

  • dennis descansa en paz

  • @palomo7z desculpe me minha ignorancia, ele morreu de que e quando?

  • Glad you shared this rare video with the rest of us on YouTube it's fantastic!

  • dennis was awesome!

  • Dennis Yost passed away December 7 2008.

  • @mikeaustin26 Sorry to hear that he passed away.

  • Dennis got a real raw deal for awhile - hope he's well. He's sounds good, here.

I saw some fake Classics IV in Vegas, years ago. Dennis is the real deal. Thanks for this!

  • Awesome! That says it all.... Thank you!

  • Ran into this by accident. Vauguely heard of this show but can't recall ever having watched it. Shame on me for what I've missed out as I love these 'storyteller' type shows. 5 stars and favorited. Off to see what other performances you've posted.

  • Glad you found it. You certainly are not alone in missing this one, as that is probably the case for most people. I have uploaded over 25 performances from it, so hope you find many more you like.

  • Now this is what I call COOL..

Thanks DooWopJoe so much for posting the rest of this gig here on Y-Tube!

    I can't thank you enough.

    5*****

  • Hey, no problem. Glad you enjoy them. Really a shame that this program was not promoted more and seen by more people. As good as these videos are, they take on even more meaning if one hears the hours of conversation that surrounded them.
