  • Just answer the questions, please.

  • The world needs more women like Rachael!

    So stylish, elegant and beautiful.

  • shes not elegant or stylish... shes a robot assimilating what she thinks is in style.

a beautiful "Thing" not a woman

  • "Is this to test wether I'm a replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard?"

    "Both. Answer the question please."

  • In so far as why Rachel uses the lighter in the manner she does I'm guessing that everything about her, like the rest of movie, is highly stylized (watch how Rachel carries her hands). It makes a jarring contrast to things that are familiar (the whole 1940s/Sam Spade atmosphere) to that which is unfamiliar. For me, this is the best Sci Fi movie ever made (though I love Aliens II as well. Who doesn't?)

  • The composition of the shots and lighting is STUNNING

  • Anyone notice the subliminal message at 2:00, a reference to the spider in Rachael's childhood? This is so when we hear it later we feel like we remember it :D

  • he was secretly testing whether you were a lesbian or not before he made his move

  • @danceforlife1846 I wish I had a Hetero-Homo testing machine haha.

  • One of many Sean Young's Classic performances. -- There will never be better re-runs of her scenes .

  • is this the final cut? looks like it is.

  • its ok to kill the wasp, why not the butterflyes?

  • Sean Young....was so beautiful at the beginning of his career....i loved her.

  • What's the difference between a Raven and a Writing Desk?

  • omg vangelis is SO good here

  • Sean Young has beautiful eyes.

  • Maybe dekerd is half andriod and doesnt even know about it i wish this was the future.

  • i think dekard is a .i. but doesnt realizes it or hates his own kind maybe..

  • it prooves that deckard is a rep. i he was a human he would have asked "how much is she, mr tyrell?"

  • This movie is a masterpiece: the synopsis, the plot, the script - and look at the way it's shot, the use of lighting - the light and dark and shadows during the entire scene, and the camera angles. It's so brilliant and original, I love it!

  • Great clip, thank god you didn't include your own stupid soundtrack!!! this is one of the best films that defined the Scifi Genre for years to come...and this clip is def one of the best, Kudos, I am adding you to Flist :)

  • Is this testing whether I'm a Replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard?

  • The music is oh so close to The Lady in Red or similar soppiness - but Vangelis just about pulls the brake in time.

    ;-)

  • I would like to make that sort of movies, dreaming and melancolic and close to the perfection like a Kubrick film.

  • Depressing

  • Love it.

    Such a dream-like movie.

  • What a cool apartment to live in!

  • amzing scene....Sean Young was so attractive ....great movie.....great everything of it

  • maybe she was afraid her bangs would catch fire

  • who's cheek and ear is that facing tyrell when he smiles at 1:49?

    jack torrance?

  • lmao good one.

  • Judging by Deckards response @ 1:46, he's testing if she's a lesbian?

  • I love the way she uses the lighter! But why?:)

  • @haynibabe It's a Dunhill Rollagas lighter she is using.... the spark roller is on the side...

  • " A Point of You Interview "

  • i didn't think that was due to her thinking of the order, but rather shows that she's nervous.

  • Interesting when Rachel lights her cigarette. She has to pause to think the order through.........

  • I never paid attention to that before ! That's genius of detail right there.

  • @route1box43 She needs to focus at the camera doing the test. She tries to light the cigarette and perceives that the lighter is off. She reacts to it with disdain at the same time she pays attention to that detail. It is ambiguous, her trend.

That is why everybody gets fascinated by this simple gesture in this scene.

There is a better front shot of same scene on Youtube. Look for "BLADE RUNNER Rachael HQ"

  • @route1box43 woa, I've seen this movie 3 times and I never noticed that obvious detail before. I have to watch it again!!

  • @route1box43 interesting that she smokes at all, a very human trait performed by a replicant/machine that would see no need in sustaining the habit of smoking

  • @Micali711 well as she didnt know she was a replicant and though she was a human, she wouldnt've known :P

  • @Micali711 Smoking wouldn't hurt an android/replicant so I guess that's why she's programmed to smoke.

  • @jrmetmoi that's just it though, she's not programmed. replicants are not programmed, they are like organic clones

  • @Micali711 There really isn't much difference between Replicants and proper Humans aside from emotions and lifespans and in the case of Rachel, at least one, if not both (depending on which cut you go by) , doesn't apply.

  • @route1box43 I caught that too

  • @route1box43 I've seen this movie a dozen times and never noticed that before.

  • 2 questions. why have this segment of the movie?

why do you think Rachel shows the kind of emotions (part 1 and 2) that she does, ie, sullen.

  • for surface level thinkers maybe...
