thanks, i was never told that the white keys were laid out in a major scale. it will be easier to remember what a major scale is when the example is right in front of me every time i look at the piano :)

well, you can technically use major scales in any kind of music, and there are many classical pieces that use major scales, one of the more popular pieces is Mozart's Piano Sonata in C major. The only ting that a scale does is dictates what notes a musician can use while he's playing music. Scales are a great help because they let you read music faster because you know what notes to expect on what line when you see them, instead of having to worry about any accidentals.
