Hey someone should clarify this for me cause ive been wondering. Which is better, H22A, or H23? I have the jdm h22a vtec, which engines is it better then and which engines are better?
Haha, its weird seeing these things do burnouts. Fwd cars are so awkward when doing burnouts. None the less I wish my auto 01 sh lude could get some wheel spin action. My car has Vtec ( which is a joke )
i have the bluetop and it is significantly faster then h22a4. im runnin it obd1 tuned on crome. and ill be posting a vid if it soon. anybody wana see it?
I like the swap to be different, but in terms of actual power gained over a jdm h22a...You don't gain anything. I burn my buddies h23 bluetop with a h22a all day long. I easily pull 2-3 cars.
@preludepower420 I wish they put down 20ftlbs more, but i've never seen a huge difference. Granted, it does make the power sooner and feel a lot quicker. For the price, the h23vtec is the way to go especially if you have an obd2 car/wiring setup already. Back when I swapped my lude the h22a was much cheaper and easier to find a computer so I went with that. I am by no means badmouthing the bluetop, its a great engine.
Your prelude looks exactly like mine almost. Just without the saw blades. I love h23 vtec swaps. What was the hardest part of the modification to make the h22 head fit to the h23 block? you see why I'm asking is I'm planning on building a h23 vtec turbo with my 5th gen lude.
@venom3114 Not Saw Blades (RSX-S) not a Frankenstein (JDM H23 VTEC Bluetop) H23/22 if pretty easy now-a-days, just like LS VTEC. Only issue I can think of is Revving the H23 (non-VTEC) bottom end up that high.
NO NO NO the H23 has 5 more hp and 3 more lbsft!!! LOL jesus fucking christ its not like anyones horendously underrating these engines like saying theyve got 100hp and 16 lbs ft,if theyre even wrong, its by like 10 hp and a few lbsft torque.calm down,we dont all need to hear the "official JDM specs".
Im running this motor in my 97 accord ex 4dr, Its a ripper, i ran 14's with 3sec. 60ft times and a busted driver side motor mount,i just got done rebuilding it after blowing it up doing what you did to your h22, i was racing a new mustang gt and pulling him and shifted in 2nd instead of 4th bent pretty much bent all my valves and blew up my oil pump, check out my vid's let me know what you think.
i have an accord and i treat it like my wife, i take care of her properly, when she needs something, i get it immediatly, it just goes to show how valuable my car is to me, i race and win due to the maintenance i put into my car... people kill their engines thinking its a joke
The H23 has way more torque and that equates to better driveability. Performance wise its great it made the prelude kinda fast instead of pretty quick.
you could have mentioned that you blew your other motor Lol. I thought u swapped it just because you didnt want the h22 in there well in that case you did make a wise decision as far as your swap goes then. How you blow an h22 motor is beyond me though there not really that likely to blow unless u do something terribly wrong or poor maintnance. that or u raced the fuck out of it and killed it.
My H22 had the bolt-ons and the H23 was still faster with stock i/h/e and the cat(took it all off for smog). In case everybodys wondering I blew my H22. Being the smart shopper I am, I researched. I found that H23A (197hp,168ft/lb) VTEC had the same Torque as the H22A Type S but not the extra power (220hp,163ft/lb) and only cost $150 more than a regular JDM H22A and about $3500 less than the Type S(197hp,146ft/lb). Type S torque for $150, why not.
Wrong spec ITS 215 HP 169TQ I SHOULD KNOW I HAVE IT in my ek9 if you want to see the spec ill show you the Real site that haves the spec for the real JDM carzzz...
i would not call this a major upgrade over the h22 personally i would call it a waste of money why you may ask? very low gain in hp and torque you could have got bolt ons for the h22 and made better numbers for less.
Stock VS Stock H22 VS H23. they have about the same HP but the H23 has more torque simply because of the increase in displacement. Call me crazy but the Mustang dyno and my butt dyno definitly agrees on this being an upgrade. BTW I have all the bolt-ons all ready.
you say its rated at 200 ps which is about 197 horsepower but that is not the horsepower to the wheels you cannot compare ps to whp because ps only compares to base hp that being said
its 197 hp 152 lbft on the h23 vtec
and 195 hp 156 lbft on the h22 vtec
oh and btw 207 nm is 152 lbft
so apparently its not that big of a difference in hp or torque from the stats u gave but here are the real stats for u
Those specs on the h23a Vtec you posted aren't relevant. The Accord wagon is auto and uses a different ECU. But a stock H23a Vtec with A P13 ECU will put down around 190-195hp at the wheels. Which is more than A H22A1 or
5th Generation preludes didnt come with "h23 vtec" just so you know. For 1, the h23 is a non vtec engine. 2 it comes with a h22 vtec. And if u do have an h23 (which i would put 500 dollars saying that you dont) it would be a major downgrade.
Just to let you know my prelude didn't "come" with a H23 I swaped it. The JDM H23A VTEC (blue top) came from a 99-01 JDM Sir Accord Wagon(CF4). It is rated at 200 ps and 207Nm (163 ft/lbs)1. I swaped it out my self (I'm sure it's an H23)2. It's a major upgrade over the H22 (172whp, 138 wtq)3. Research your shit befor you talk. Or else you'll just get owned again. I'll be expecting my $500, you can send me a money order or PayPal.

im guessn u did the swap in ur prelude so i figure u might know if the h23a would fit in an integra
coreywilson75 3 years ago
Yes it will a H2B kit would probably be the most esy way to do it. It's the same as a H22 swap.

nice man, does the blue top drop right in place of the h22? can you use the h22 ecu?
SeeMyhondaVTEC 3 years ago
Almost a direct swap. JDM H's don't have crank position or TDC sensors on the oil pump, so you have to put those four wires into an OBDI distributor
