I find it strange, that a lot of Christian rock sucks. I personally think it sounds horrible. I don't really like any "Christian Rock" artists. I do however like some secular Rock musicians. Their attempt of Rock sounds much better than the "Christian" attempt. Clearly, Christians were not meant to make this kind of music. I can make so many arguments that shut down CCM, Christian rock, christian rap, etc. Then add the bible. And still...there's plenty of Christian music out there that's AMAZING
People set themselves up, when they say, "it's the lyrics that matter." Lyrics are the most important, but to say the sound doesn't? The bible is clear on what's worth listening to & not listening to. However, just because one person got satanic inspirations for their music and had an electric guitar does not mean that that the guitarist for MercyMe or Casting Crowns & the rest of the band are worldly, them or their music. If you have a good ear for music, you can tell when it's Christian or not
And as a living testimony of the work of God in my life through gospel rap and perhaps a few other types of Christian contemporary music I disagree with the notion that they are not of God. The Holy Ghost through the Apostle Paul is not at all teaching that we are to compromise the gospel by supporting sin, worldliness, or false teaching. Also, you have judged the band Oh, Sleeper based on their appearance without knowing anything about their character. You have also accused them of not reading fully the passage from which their name is derived when, in fact, much of their lyrical content originates from this passage. The band's album Son of the Morning uses the passage's theme of light and darkness throughout.

Both the music & lyrics must glorify God(1Cor10:31). So called "christian rock" does not glorify God because it music that has conformed to the world(Rom12:1-2), & it's very essence is darkness, & fellowship with darkness, which is condemned by the Holy Bible(Eph5:11;2Cor6:14-18).

At my church the praise band plays Amazing Grace every Sunday. The lyrics are the same but it’s in a rock form. Think about this. Oh, Sleeper and other Christian bands perform at non-Christian festivals (as they also perform at Christian ones) in the hope that their message will reach those who otherwise would never hear it. I leave this in the hands of God and that He will give me the discernment to turn from anything thaty is not inspired by Him. If the music does not glorify our LORD then turn it off and do not listen to it. Friend, God has clearly spoken in His Word that the true born again Christian is to, "...have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them"(Eph5:11). CCM has its roots in the darkness, wickedness, and sin of Rock music.
