  • first time I have seen that done.. I have read, thats how it was done before pot and pan. Thanks for posting it...

  • A simple yet effective way ...nice! But did it boil long enough. I now you have very good water there according to ray mears . he scooped water straight from the lake and drank it. WOW! :o)

  • so ray say that,, hehehe,,

dont need to boil it more and that, thats the true,

  • As soon as water boils, it's boiled enough. By the time it's reached that temperature, harmful bacteria, parasites, etc, are dead.

  • @Ggreenvideos Water just needs to get to about 180oF to kill all the bacteria and virus. It does not need to boil.

    cheers

  • @teb0atoz Totally wrong dude! Water needs to hit boil at least!

  • you sir are amazing ! (and not just in this video..)

  • thanks nice to hear,

  • here we say, lots of bubbles no trouble

    !!

    :0)

  • @hobbexp great job..and nice bush pipe..i smoke cannabis out of those pipes while camping

  • Fredde, some bacteria take as much as 20 minutes of boiling to kill. However luckily few are found in wild. Botulism is an example, while the bacteria itself is killed quite readily it's spore is not. That is why when canning alkaline products, beans, beets, peas so forth a pressure cooker is best. We add vinegar & salt. I still think it best to boil water 3 minutes. When we were kids we drank a lot of raw water & maybe did get sick but I don't remember. We mostly relied on a spring.

  • Nice idea, gonna try it next time I'm in the woods

  • so simple but yet not thought of thanks again Fredde

  • hehehe,, thanks nice to hear you like it,

  • Mycket trevliga filmer :)

  • Great video.

  • great

  • great idea, never thougt of it,

you almost hit the can with the stone at 3:39

  • I remember my father showing me this when I was around 7, I also recall the huge blister I ended up with that day when I dropped the rock I was using and tried to catch it with my bare hands... I learned two things that day LOL. This video reminded me of this and now I'm going to have to teach this trick to my kids so they know it as well! Another great video.

  • I want to learn swedish, it really is a cool language.

  • i do too it seems so kool. i have to friends who live in Sweeden and i want to go and visit. i am still in high school and they offer Swedish as a language. i think im going to take it

  • Take it man, I wish they had that where I live. Most of my favorite bands are from Sweden. I listen to a lot of metal from that area.

  • thanks for sharing this, it seems to be useful in practice!

  • Great stuff, man. Love your vids.

Also, you are correct, just bringing to a boil is good enough to sterilize water not just disinfect.

  • thanks, :0)

  • Thats the coolest thing i have ever seen

  • what is that your were boiling??

  • i think i say it in the video what it is. :0)

  • a liitle help... it`s black, hot, aromatically and named "Gevalia Kok Mellanrost" ... i bet ! :o)

  • it's generally ten minutes, at a good boil (fierce bubbles) to kill everything in the water. the bacteria and parasites are unable to withstand the heat so it should work.

the only thing that i heard was that you must use water that is as clean as possible - as little sediment as you can otherwise some bacteria may be able to use it as a shield - common sense really.

  • yes in survival / bushcraft books are they often say that, a good boil have work for me in 23 years now, im still not sick.

  • when i was in jamtland i drank straight from the lakes and rivers. i miss that :)

  • I suspect that in northern climates, there is less bacteria to worry about. I have never been sick when drinking directly from a stream (not stagnant).

  • As a young kid I was told it takes 10 minutes of boiling to kill everything in the water. Not sure if that's correct I suppose 10 minutes would certainly kill everything. Anyone, know if that's necessary? Just because you don't get sick doesn't mean it worked.

  • yes i know, they tell me that to, now are they saying a good boil is enough.

  • thank you for sharing 5/5

  • looks like you live in a beautiful country

  • exellent technique, and so simple! thank you for sharing this

  • Trangiakök är skittråkiga! eller hur hehe

  • man behöver inget kaffe kanna eller kök, man kan ju koka kaffe direkt i koppen :0)

  • nice but be careful with waterlogged rocks, they have a tendanct to explode... no joke

  • thanks for the video, well done, how long would you cook for rabbit in fire pit,how would you time that??can you do something like that next?thanks

  • i think it is 1 h / 0,5 kg,

you dont need to time it, it cant bee over done in pit, only cold,,:0)if you forget it, like i did last tiem i use the pit technique,

  • time,,, if you hold up your hand, and count how many fingers you can get in between the sun and the horizon, every finger is 15 min,,

  • thats cool simple and it works, nice one.
