Amazing skills you have, Fredde the bush craft master, the right stones and boil water also in a flammable cup. Great, thanks for showing. Greetings Sepp
A simple yet effective way ...nice! But did it boil long enough. I now you have very good water there according to ray mears . he scooped water straight from the lake and drank it. WOW! :o)
Fredde, some bacteria take as much as 20 minutes of boiling to kill. However luckily few are found in wild. Botulism is an example, while the bacteria itself is killed quite readily it's spore is not. That is why when canning alkaline products, beans, beets, peas so forth a pressure cooker is best. We add vinegar & salt. I still think it best to boil water 3 minutes. When we were kids we drank a lot of raw water & maybe did get sick but I don't remember. We mostly relied on a spring.
I remember my father showing me this when I was around 7, I also recall the huge blister I ended up with that day when I dropped the rock I was using and tried to catch it with my bare hands... I learned two things that day LOL. This video reminded me of this and now I'm going to have to teach this trick to my kids so they know it as well! Another great video.
i do too it seems so kool. i have to friends who live in Sweeden and i want to go and visit. i am still in high school and they offer Swedish as a language. i think im going to take it
it's generally ten minutes, at a good boil (fierce bubbles) to kill everything in the water. the bacteria and parasites are unable to withstand the heat so it should work.
the only thing that i heard was that you must use water that is as clean as possible - as little sediment as you can otherwise some bacteria may be able to use it as a shield - common sense really.
I suspect that in northern climates, there is less bacteria to worry about. I have never been sick when drinking directly from a stream (not stagnant).
As a young kid I was told it takes 10 minutes of boiling to kill everything in the water. Not sure if that's correct I suppose 10 minutes would certainly kill everything. Anyone, know if that's necessary? Just because you don't get sick doesn't mean it worked.
who's your camera person? the wife?

dont need to boil it more and that, thats the true,
hobbexp 2 years ago
As soon as water boils, it's boiled enough. By the time it's reached that temperature, harmful bacteria, parasites, etc, are dead.
shadowboxer47 2 years ago
@Ggreenvideos Water just needs to get to about 180oF to kill all the bacteria and virus. It does not need to boil.
cheers

Also, you are correct, just bringing to a boil is good enough to sterilize water not just disinfect.
