@AK47Mafya Haha man if you can't take that with a grain of salt I don't think you'll be ready for the military, but in all seriousness the mainpacks weigh in at a good 75 pounds, but for recon their packs usually fly in at 85-95+ pounds, depending on water weight (if the packs have been soaked they get heavier). I'm an 0341 Infantry Mortarman.

Also, Delta and DEVGRU recruit Marines, MARSOC and Force Recon are on par with SEALs and SF, and Division Recon is as good, if not better than Rangers. Don't get me wrong, they are all elite warriors, and I would be proud to serve with any of them and hope to join their ranks someday, but you needed schooling you dumbass hippie.

Here is the reality of the situation. Recon Marines are very well trained. My father was a Marine in Vietnam. My cousin was Force Recon in the early 90s. I will not share my info as I have no need to be bothered by teenage fanboys. Anyways there are only so many oportunities in the Corps. Alot of these guys leave the Corps and either join the Army in a attempt to become Special Forces or they attempt BUDS. Maybe MARSOC will change this. We'll see. They are new to SOF and have alot to learn.

@beefsupreme7414 I was 1371 (88-92). While stationed at Camp Hansen we got a deployment to Iwo Jima & trained with recon. I was thoroughly impressd with them. We set up an ambush alongside a road and although it was training I almost shit my pants. Those guys were creepily quiet. All we were able to do was get like the point man and the man behind him and all was quiet again. We had 2 fire teams 2 taken out & 6 captured. They held us till morning gave us no food & interregated us haha.
Do wanna say one night i was on fire watch overlooking the black sandy beach of Iwo Jima. That was the most ghostly moment of my life. The moon was out, myself and some recon guy on the Island was probably the only ones awake. I could visualize all those Marines pinned on the beach I had seen in movies and books. Just this battle alone so many were given suicide orders yet they accomplished their mission.
I tell you we all really need to take memorial day so much more seriously.

What happened to the returning servicemen & women of the Vietnam war should have been an act of treason. But the military is like a university you can't help but to poke at the other branches if given a chance (if you are/were enlisted).
I was a Marine and I occasionally take a stab at a armydog, squid or flyboy. But if I were given a choice to have one hero in my lifetime it would have to be Army Ranger Pat Tillman. There are of course countless others deserving of this title but Tillman was a modern day old school patriot. (I love how politicians throw the word patriot around) Left fame and fortune to fight for his country. It was common place 60 years ago but in todays world Tillman was a rare gem.

My dad was in Marine Recon in the 80's my oldest brother is a Marine of 2 years August 14th. My other brother graduates highschool in 2013 and will be going to the Naval Academy and going to the Marines and then 2014 comes around... Its my turn to join and Im a female. Can't wait! @MrRucknroll Yeah, do an assload of cammie swimming, and just as much open water swimming. Also, do deep breathing exercises, especially underwater. Long distance swimming and tons of freakin sprints help out too.

Interested in this. I know that basic training to be a marine is tough, how much tougher is this? I'm not super jacked or anything (though I have two years till high school's over), but not unathletic. @Jstfm1 If you're going into Combat Engineer try to get stationed overseas. The training opportunities is lightyears ahead of stateside. We did 18 mile full gear humps every wednsday morning had a 20 mile batallion hump once a month on fridays and 3 mile runs daily' Combat Engineer is slang for educated grunt. I am certain all mos's are given equal chances at any transfers (barracks duty special forces etc) thanks to General Al Grays induction of basic warrior training.

@beefsupreme7414 I was 1371 (88-92). While stationed at Camp Hansen we got a deployment to Iwo Jima & trained with recon. I was thoroughly impressd with them. We set up an ambush alongside a road and although it was training I almost shit my pants. Those guys were creepily quiet. All we were able to do was get like the point man and the man behind him and all was quiet again. We had 2 fire teams 2 taken out & 6 captured. They held us till morning gave us no food & interregated us haha.

Do wanna say one night i was on fire watch overlooking the black sandy beach of Iwo Jima. That was the most ghostly moment of my life. The moon was out, myself and some recon guy on the Island was probably the only ones awake. I could visualize all those Marines pinned on the beach I had seen in movies and books. Just this battle alone so many were given suicide orders yet they accomplished their mission.
I tell you we all really need to take memorial day so much more seriously.

In Basic thou. learn youre 11 general orders and when you get the title Recom Marine you will learn you 12th, but use this in boot camp as well when on fire watch YOU WALK YOURE POST FROM FLANK TO FLANK AND TAKE NO SHIT FROM ANY RANK. @JustLaxing36 I totally agree with you 100%. I am also of the belief if you haven't served in the military or the parent or spouse of one they have no rights protesting a war. What happened to the returning servicemen & women of the Vietnam war should have been an act of treason. But the military is like a university you can't help but to poke at the other branches if given a chance (if you are/were enlisted).

I was a Marine and I occasionally take a stab at a armydog, squid or flyboy. But if I were given a choice to have one hero in my lifetime it would have to be Army Ranger Pat Tillman. There are of course countless others deserving of this title but Tillman was a modern day old school patriot. (I love how politicians throw the word patriot around) Left fame and fortune to fight for his country. It was common place 60 years ago but in todays world Tillman was a rare gem.

My dad was in Marine Recon in the 80's my oldest brother is a Marine of 2 years August 14th. My other brother graduates highschool in 2013 and will be going to the Naval Academy and going to the Marines and then 2014 comes around... Its my turn to join and Im a female. Can't wait! But then again im scared to death too but oh well.

@MrRucknroll Yeah, do an assload of cammie swimming, and just as much open water swimming. Also, do deep breathing exercises, especially underwater. Long distance swimming and tons of freakin sprints help out too.

Interested in this. I know that basic training to be a marine is tough, how much tougher is this? I'm not super jacked or anything (though I have two years till high school's over), but not unathletic. I was already interested in doing infantry, does the choice to become a recon marine come after that? thanks.

@greentea1494 like bootcamp, being a recon marine can have it's moments are fas as being demanding, but if you truly want it, then it's worth it, trust me. Have fun and good luck!

What are the qualifications for recon? In October I will be at Parris. I really want to join recon. Do I have to be in Infantry? Or could I still be a combat engineer and still do recon? Awesome vid by the way!

@Jstfm1 If you're going into Combat Engineer try to get stationed overseas. The training opportunities is lightyears ahead of stateside. We did 18 mile full gear humps every wednsday morning had a 20 mile batallion hump once a month on fridays and 3 mile runs daily' Combat Engineer is slang for educated grunt. I am certain all mos's are given equal chances at any transfers (barracks duty special forces etc) thanks to General Al Grays induction of basic warrior training.
