I came up making beats on keys and it seems that when I use FL without a keyboard it actually opens me up to do things that I would not do with my hands on keys because there is so much muscle memory involved with keys and it can keep you in a box. To me it seems like the way he does it leaves more room to the imagination. I am not disagreeing with you but just giving my take on it. I do know he said he had a drum machine at one time before he got FL on some inteview.
