I wish they still kept the first recording of this album. It would be insane to hear the speed they mustve played for an entire album to be just 22 minutes. Damn.

None of the original Norwegian Black Metal guys were "serious" about Satanism. Only the later aficionados of the genre actually delved into anything that could be called "Satanism". It was a slow progression for me getting into death metal, I was really into thrash metal when I was 14 in 1998 (80's Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Sodom, Testament), then in 2000 I started listening to "Cannibal Corpse & Morbid Angel" I saw a lot of bands live up to that point.
I didn't get into Deicide until 2003, I became a big fan. First 4 albums are amazing, then the HOFFMANs left a year later! before I ever got to see them live, Eric & Brian were my favorite members of the band!!

I saw these guys in Sydney at the Phoenician club before it was closed because of too many crowd surfing injuries. It was for the 'Once Upon a Cross' tour, and they were so fucking powerful sounding!! Everything sounded like the recorded versions, and Benton's vocals cut through so strong!! Never did get much into 'Once Upon a Cross' though. I still just listen to this album and the debut and demos... so fuckin dark and powerful

Not entirely, Glen would have ended up leaving the band if the Hoffman brothers stayed because he was sick of all their bullshit. Steve talked him into not leaving but soon led to their departure due to non agreement with the record contract with the payment. Long and short of it, if they stayed, Benton wouldn't be in the band, and personally i think Glen is what really makes the band, but i do prefer Eric and Brian over Jack and Ralph on guitar anyday
You're so right. Jack and Ralph don't complete the band like the Hoffmans did. And, personally, I think Jack should have stayed in Cannibal Corpse. He wrote some of the best, if not THE best, death metal riffs ever.

@resinscraper13 Some people say HAL is supposed to look like the eye of providence, and there's alot of movies like Clockwork Orange have that "pyramid eye" symbol in them, but if you look at the cover of Death's "Symbolic" it has the same image on it's cover. I don't know maybe Stanley Kubrick got together with some death metal bands at one point lol

I saw these guys in Sydney at the Phoenician club before it was closed because of too many crowd surfing injuries. It was for the 'Once Upon a Cross' tour, and they were so fucking powerful sounding!! Everything sounded like the recorded versions, and Benton's vocals cut through so strong!! Never did get much into 'Once Upon a Cross' though. I still just listen to this album and the debut and demos... so fuckin dark and powerful

The first stuff was good too, but this album was a display of a very unique, brutal style....
And then... they did what every other death band does.... they start to blend into every other band that's out there and nobody cares anymore..

Not entirely, Glen would have ended up leaving the band if the Hoffman brothers stayed because he was sick of all their bullshit. Steve talked him into not leaving but soon led to their departure due to non agreement with the record contract with the payment. Long and short of it, if they stayed, Benton wouldn't be in the band, and personally i think Glen is what really makes the band, but i do prefer Eric and Brian over Jack and Ralph on guitar anyday

You're so right. Jack and Ralph don't complete the band like the Hoffmans did. And, personally, I think Jack should have stayed in Cannibal Corpse. He wrote some of the best, if not THE best, death metal riffs ever.

their rhythm guitar playing ability is undeniable. They were Sick. Truly
missed. It's not that Jack or Ralph aren't nice, but they aren't Deicide.
They don't play or write Deicide like riffs. The closest to it was Stench

@666briareos Dude I saw them Twice. At the Whiskey in 99 I think and the Troubadour in 01. All I can say is they put on a ridiculously Brutal show and that Benton talks a lot of shit to the soundguys at the venue. Lmao... Eric looks like a damn WWF Superstar the MoFo is Huge! Sick as Fuck. It's a shame they are no more. Deicide is still pretty good. But their Metal God status has been revoked. Just like Morbid Angel's was with the release of that lame ass "EXTREME!!!" And I guess Morbid and Death would be like the Zepplin and Beatles of DM Lol. So Epic. They deffinitely don't make em like they used to. Shit is good/awesome but not Classic or enduring

I've heard that he doesn't even play bass that well in concerts, and all he contributes to the music are the shitty lyrics and vocals which have deteriorated in my opinion. Much like ozzy, all he really has is an image. Quite an overrated character in my opinion.
