  • I have a dodge 2007 caravan that heater wont work . The first item i noticed before it stopped last year was the sound of the blend door not working when dashheater controll was set to heat setting. Before i did notice a clicking or mechanical sound , then did open and hotter air blew out,but not as of now. I have flushed cooling system, replaced thermostat, and flushed heater core.Mainly to elininate any basic problems before i attempt the actuator module replacement.. Is it similiar to mine?

  • @ssl668 We currently do not have a video of this repair on your application. The basics on the Explorer video may be similar to your vehicle, but the removal process and location more than likely will be different.

  • @1aauto thanks for responce. I found problem and it is at actuator spleen/ shaft from inside heater box. It semms to have broke off completly from door mechanism. Today i pryed up flap through actuator hole mount and i do have heat now. Suprisingly, Dodge corporation wont cover this in any "Faulty" engineering and/or defects. When it clearly should have not have any failure with only 4 years of use ,so far.. When dodge vehicles work ,they are good, but when they break ,dont turn to them help.

  • @ssl668 Glad to hear you found out what the issue was. That's kind of a weird thing to have broken.

  • I do have a 2001 Lincoln Navigator and my problem is, my heater no getting hot as always, unless I set it on the 90 than get wormer! And the antifreeze level is good. The blower is working is good too! If you have any idea what is the problem please e-mail me myasin78@gmail.com thanks.

  • @westrnboy You could try to flush the cooling system. They sell a liquid flush at the auto parts store. Walmart usually carries it too, you can also flush the system out with a hose if it's warm outside. This will help to remove particles that could be clogging up the heater core. You may want to chance the thermostat while you're at it. If this doesn't work it could be a faulty blend door. Hope this helps you out.

  • Okay very helpful to know just in case I ever have to do it.

  • How can you tell if the actuator motor is the cause or not?

  • @68164Chris When you change the temperature, it may not change to get warmer or cooler.

  • I have a 2003 Explorer XLT and my defroster only blows on low settings. When I turn it to HIGH the blower kicks in and I can hear the vent door close and no air will come out of the defroster and all the air blows through the remaining vents. Is this the same issue as you discuss here?

  • @68164Chris This video shows you how to repair the vent door actuator. If this is causing your issue, this video will show you how to replace your vent door. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!

  • I pulled the Blend Door and it works fine. Mechanics have said evey everything else is fine so they concluded it was the blend door. When I hit a bump, the AC "may" trigger. My heat came on when I hit a bump and now it will not go back to AC. I'm told it's the Heater Control Valve. Is this not the same thing?

  • @Mailenmaloo It could be that or a possible loose connection somewhere.

  • @1aauto - and no telling where that loose connections is, right? Btw, THANK you sooo much for this video. I'm a girl and I did it!!!! And, why? because I'm always getting ripped off and I'm tired of paying money I can't afford to spend. Thank you!!!

  • @Mailenmaloo Thank you for checking us out. Have a great day!

  • When i removed the old actuator and played with the door with my fingers i could see it was the actuator. Problem is when i connect the actuator, the little rotating knob won't rotate when i change the temp. And i can't install the new one because i have to be able to move it into the position of the old actuator. Also, i have a 1999 ford explorer eddie bauer so my temp control is digital. any thoughts for getting my actuator knob to move so i can't install it?

  • @stixs2005 If the actuator will not rotate you have want to check your fuses, and also the main controller to see if it's working properly.

  • I guess its not in the same place as an 05 explorer. I just checked and I dont see it. Any ideas?

  • Hi ,

my 05 explorer blows only cold air and has a knocking and fwapping sound on both sides of the center console. Do you think this is my problem (what you showed here).

    Thanks for any anawer

  • @TheodorMorell You may want to check the antifreeze level in the radiator to see if it's full.

  • I got a 2003 windstar but the controls don't work... I get heat and cold but only from the top vent position... blower works, fuses are good. actuactor? No heat in the feet positon.

  • @grettagrids It could be the actuator. You may also want to check the vaccum lines under the hood and dash to see if any of them have split or became unplugged.

  • Hello.. my ford explorer xlt 2005 have problem wont on heat. i know Door Actuator but i looked it but cant find it. where is at in dash? please help me where tell me at Door Actuator thanks!!!

  • @JujosVideos If the heat simply does not turn on, start with the simple things first such as a fuse. Then test the blower motor with a test light to see if it has power to it. If you have lost some of the heat settings it may be the blower motor resistor.

  • @JujosVideos Hey Joe did you ever get a answer I have a 2005 Ford Explorer too. I watched the video and my Actuator is not in the same stop as shown in the video. In fact I cab hear the clicking behind the heater console. Which leads me to believe that I might have to have the dash removed. Did you fix your problem.

  • just wanted to thank you!!!!! You saved me two hundred us dollars, I took me half hour to install.. again thank you so much

  • @BOOANDLUCKY1 thank you for checking out our auto repair videos. Have a great day!

  • This video was a life saver. A few days ago, My '06 Ranger started blowing hot air regardless of the temperature setting. I did what you said in this video, and luckily, the problem was a dead actuator. What could have been a very expensive repair ended up costing me forty bucks for the part, and a little elbow grease. Thanks!!!

  • Do you have this Install replace video for 98 chevy suburban?

  • @slliks67 At the current time we do not have a repair video that shows this

  • i have a 1999 ford explorer, the air only stays cold and when i turn heater on it gets even colder any ideas?

  • Thank you soo... much for this video about two years ago i had to replace atempature door accuator and the shop i had it done at charged me $650 to have this done and it went bad on me again thanks for this before i tore my complete dash appart!

  • Can you guys at 1aauto please make a video just like this one for the 2001 chevy impala, i would greatly appreciate it. Btw, i love the site. Keep up the good work!

  • my 2001 ford explorer sport bows out cold air only from the defrost vents and not the front vents what controls that

  • @calvinmartin8 i have the same thing going on with my ranger whats the deal?

  • my truck seems to have snaps holding the actuator in rather than screws. is there any easy way to release them without breaking them?

  • i have a 98 ranger that blows hot air, when a/c is on and on flat surface or going downhill, its cold. when i go up hill, it gets hot and fan stops running.if i start off quick, it gets hot.sometimes i can hear the blend door shut.the acuator seems to be working. im thinking it could be a vaccumm problem cuz the time this happened, i lost my 4wheel drive. any clues ty

  • @scobra97con Also make sure that there aren't any air pockets in the cooling system.

  • @scobra97con It's you're blend door inside that plenum. Not the motor, not the AC system.

  • Great video.

The vents have been blowing nothing but hot (and I mean HOT) air in my '98 Explorer, regardless of the temperature setting, and I'm thinking the blend door actuator is dead and the door is stuck in the heater position. I'll try this first as it seems simple enough. Thanks for the tutorial.

  • @pacmanghostx You may also want to have the AC system checked to may sure it's filled with refrigerant and that there aren't any leaks.

  • @1aauto Good call. Thanks for the tip.

  • We add to our video section on a daily basis. Keep checking back before any project that you have to tackle for some great tips.

  • i have a 2000 ford expedition and the air still blows cold but when im driving my truck the air stops coming threw the vents and come out the defroster and when i let off the gas the air come out the vents again what could be this problem

  • @vcollins43 you may want to start wit the simple things first and check the fluid level in the radiator.

  • Hi there, I own a 01' xlt exactly like this, the a/c blows cold and the heat is warm, but its only blowing out by your feet, is this a actuator motor as well?

  • @andyg2084 Yes and no. This video is for the actuator that controls the temp of the air. There is either another actuator or a cable that controls where the air is directed. Not sure on your vehicle if it is electric (similar to the actuator in this video) or if it is mechanical (cable controlled).

  • @1aauto hey there, thanks for the reply, its exactly like the one you are doing the demo. on, its the manual temp and direction control, any ideas? thank you so much

  • @andyg2084 Unfortunately I don't have the truck anymore and I don't remember, sorry.

  • hi i have a 2002 ford explorer, it only blowing cool air but the warm air does not come out aswell i have a tap sound everytime i switch to hot air just wondering could it be the actuador or the blend door

  • @gcacer Pull the actuator out, leave it plugged in, move your temp control and see if it moves. Most likely it is the actuator, it is a common problem.

  • im becoming a mechanic just watching these video. thanks your the bomb dot com

  • is this why my explorer only blows out cold air on drivers side, and hot on passenger side when in the heat mode?

  • @Bstang1 It sounds like you have dual zone automatic temp control. That is probably a different issue. there may be a solenoid like this that is bad somewhere or your sensor on that side could be bad.

  • '97 Ranger: Same symptoms as aprofitgmail. I cut heat off to the dash by doubling the coolant hoses back in the summer. I bought a TEMP ACTUATOR from O'Reilly Auto Parts, $40, part 604-202. Thanks to this video I was able to determine that the installed actuator was working and returned my purchased part for a credit. Then fiddled with the pneumatic valve under the hood and gained some temp control back.

  • Hi, this is the same case that a F150 `99?

  • @emavas1 Not sure but I imagine it is probably similar

  • I'm not really clear as to what the actuator does. on my truck, i can't adjust the actual temperature of the car. I have to turn off the heat when it gets too warm, and turn the heat back on when it gets too cold. the blower and fan switches work fine. when I turn the knob with the blue/red marks, nothing happens. :(

  • @aprofitgmail What you are describing is the common symptom when this actuator goes bad. This actuator controls the door that mixes the warm air from the heating core with the cool air from outside or from the AC.

  • Nice, thanks.

  • @mrexecutive1 Thanks, nice to see a repeat viewer.

    Mike
