Just watched this video along with the Springfield XD video. It looks like they tested both im 9mm. However, when they go into the "knockdown factor" portion of the video, they use the 9mm JHP +P score for the Springfield XD, and the regular 9mm score for the glock. The score difference is 30 points, but it shows a bit of bias from video to video. Compare apples to apples, using similar loads.
Also, to everyone saying the scoring is for a shooter, not the gun: they are using the same subject so all the guns get the same test, which then makes the scores the guns get, legit. It's like in Top Gear, how they use The Stig.
this guy if F*%#$ing mental he gives different scores to the ammo for the g17 and g19. by using + p on one but not the other. but why ??? is the g19 not able to handle 9mm + p. thats all you need to know about the credibility and reliability of the test. people need to stop stating opinions as facts.
@123dukesfan ehh.... somehow [and I don't know why] my glock conks out with certain weaponlights....its odd because its mechanically independent with the action, but I found the best way to stovepipe/FTF is to put a weaponlight on it. Big glock fan myself.
@123dukesfan MY 19 is so fast and reliable, love it ,,i just wish she was prettier, just like wifey, she functions real good but not the prettiest .I guess I perfur function over form.
its just meant to showcase each weapon. we all know it will take more time to unholster the weapon, and accuracy is user dependent too. and well placed shots from a low powered arm is better than poorly placed shots from a higher powered arm. If you have a gun, be it a 22 or a 45, you gotta find the best way to fight with what you got. in any case, most encounters are point blank anyway.
Why does the 9mm's "knockdown power" score seem to change between one 9mm pistol review and another? I would think the score for the caliber itself would remain consistent.
@FlyingPancreas Barrel length and rifling type contribute to the amount of speed a bullet can achieve. Longer barrel typically = greater velocity. Polygonal rifling typically = higher velocity, vs standard rifling. Greater velocity + mass = greater knockdown power. I may be wrong, but that is what i think they mean.
@FlyingPancreas It changes between pistol and carbine - Pistols will fling a 9mm bullet at about 1200 or so feet per second, the rifles have a longer barrel so less gas is wasted behind the bullet and rifles will generally fling a 9mm round at about 1400 feet per second or so.
one well placed shot to the head with ecen a 22 long rifle would stop most people, so shouldn't these all have similar knock down power? Now with one, not well placed shot, I can see big differences there.
There will be time diference on the first shot and the suceeding shots defending on the operator... Remember JP who made a world record for shooting 6 shots, reload and another 6 shots in 2.99 seconds w/ his .45 acp revolver
If you got Midway's site you'll find the rating criteria, which would allow you as a shooter to run your own test to see how various cc weapons would rate. Find a range that rents handgun and bring a buddy who has a stop watch. The point is to provide you with a way of comparing various CCW options.
The Glock 19 has a FULL CAPACITY, 15 round 9MM magazine.
Whether that is "high capacity" is left to subjective determination. And it should NEVER be allowed to be determined for you by corrupt government officials.
@FaganRoberts 15 rounds ? thats funny my glock 19 holds 33 9mm bullets and one in the pipe.If one 9mm bullet wont stop an assaltant maybe the 34th will ,hahahaha..if he is tryn to kill me i will stop shooten when he has 34 in his head...this may make i.d. of the body kinda difficult, huh
@JustinFromSydney Because the same person does this every time it actually does give a good basis for comparison. It shows what this particular person is able to do with these guns showing which ones are easier to use or more effective. If it were a different person each time or he only reviewed two guns then I could see your point.
@JustinFromSydney No. The dependent variable are the varying handguns but the independent variable is consistent throughout. The same shooter used for every trial.
It holds 15 rounds. Since the '94 AWB, anything over 10 has generally been considered high capacity. So even while they shorten the grip and take two rounds off, it's still higher capacity than many other handguns. Hopefully, though, you'll never need that many. But better to have and not need then need and not have.
I know what you're saying but I don't look to stupid laws for common use terms, 15 rounds is in no way shape or form high capacity. And I hope and pray that I'll never need the round in the chamber either, but I still carry extra magazines.
For a carry gun, 15 is considerably more than most. I'm not saying you shouldn't carry a couple extra magazines, but rather that it's unlikely to ever need 15 rounds at once.
For a carry gun, the 30-something rounds extended magazines Glock makes are completely pointless, though they are fun to fill up and empty again.
yeah but that's not a concealed carry... the glock 19 is way smaller and if you can't get the job done with 15+1 then you don't need a pistol in the first place, but with that being said... glock 19 also takes 17 and a 33 round magazine MADE BY GLOCK which is also lightweight just like their guns are...
don't get me wrong i rather have an xd-m than ANY other pistol if i was buying a full sized handgun, but what i have learned is that guns have a time and place, home defense you need a shotgun or assault rifle or sub-machine gun, concealed carry you need a compact or sub-compact pistol or revolver
@midwayusa So why choose the 124gr over the 124gr +p in this test vs the others? That changes the results a bit.
Katkinson21 3 months ago
@Katkinson21 You are correct, using the +p or +p+ would change the results a bit - good point!

Wouldn't this scoring system have more to do with the shooter skill, rather than the gun?
JustinFromSydney 2 years ago 52
I always wondered that myself. Most of that would really depend on the shooter, and somewhat on the load.
