I think the reason this seems much more frighting than the American version is because this seems more likely that it can happen to you. You buy a house think it's safe then, BAM! You get killed somehow. While the American version has just too much running around in it and people trying to solve the mystery. Plus I think more people die here.

As in the American version the curse comes from the murder of Kayako in first movie: Ju-on, the curse. This sequel shows what happens to everyone who either lives or visits the house where Kayako and Toshio were murdered many years before.
