I was actually wrong :(mayas dad did die and her mom was a littel younger when she had her but Selenas mom was 16 and pregnant, and her dad left them. so he "didnt stay" and mayas dad "couldnt stay" and i remember reading that selena and her mom had a lot of money trouble before she hit it big "working not just to survive cause life was throwing her around" and she was working on barney at age 7.
