  • Nice, i almost got that job, and it isnt easy

  • c-17...one plane where a good pilot makes A/R moderately challenging, to a bad pilot making it just a downright PITA

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Reminds me of whales fucking! One wrong move and everybody gets shafted with a giant PRICK!!!

  • What was a C-17 doing on the Black Sea and also did you guys fly all the way round the world to refuel a C-17?

  • shouldve used the crookers remix of thunderstruck ;)

  • wow, very impressive, how many km are they cruise during the proces? aronud 50 or 60 km?

  • Music killed it...

  • @noonedude101 yup :/

  • seriously, thunderstruck and dangerzone everytime

  • What were you guys doing in black sea anyways. Is it when the americans passed the bosphorus? You know carriers and stuff and Russia got itchy.

  • How much fuel gets transeferred on a plane like that on average it din't take long.Do the gunships take on fuel like that to save on landing and takeoff cycles?

  • pause at 1:24 look at the piolets face lol hes scared to death

  • Beautiful, wish i could hear the real sound... what a view, the blue ocean below

  • Wow~ Very Dangerous Work!

  • Who's sing'n that....The pot Heads....?

  • This should be flagged as pornographic content

  • worst cover of thunderstruck ever made! cool vid though.

  • How did u get permission to get up in the plane with the boom operator?

  • I was deployed flying the C-17. The KC-135 Air National Guard Unit was also deployed supporting OIF. Since the KC-135 guys worked in the same building as us, I just walked over and asked if I could take a ride and see what it was like from the other side.

  • man i wanted to do that but my retarded ass joined the Marines looking for aviation :(

  • Dreadful version of Thunderstruck, aweful. Great footage though.

  • So what is this your job? just curious if so luckiiiiii

  • yeahh black sea..Romania>:)

  • that must be fucking hard the fighter jets are small and agile but this is a huge 4 turbine monster i love the USAF cant wait to join

  • This is the job I wanted in the Air Force. Instead, I followed a friend's advice and at the last minute went with Ground Radio Repair. Stupid choice! GRR sucked, and this looks like way more fun.

  • the song is thunderstruck but a fucked up version of it

  • how long does it take to refuel?

  • Depends on how much fuel you are taking. Typically 10-15 minutes.

  • if you wouldnt mind me asking what did u score on your asvab

  • Never took the ASVAB.

  • @brownshorts1 so u arent in the military

  • @brownshorts1 you must have at some point.

  • @brownshorts1 how would i look into flying C-17s?

  • @deejakway

You first need a college degree. Most pilots attend the Air Force Academy or ROTC in college. During this time, you compete for a pilot slot. After graduation, you will attend Pilot Training which is a year long. During that time, you compete to see who gets which aircraft. If you get the C-17, you then spend 4 months learning how to fly it. Another option is to visit a guard/reserve unit if you already have a college degree & see if they will send you to pilot training.

  • so the boom moves using those elevators on the sides?

  • Yep.

  • they're called ruddervators.

  • @EpicShenanigansChuck They also keep the boom stable in the slipstream...

  • music is annoying

  • amazing, american engineering at its finest.

  • Must have been a long flight. The C-17 pictured is an extended-range bird. They can hold 249,000 pounds of fuel on their own.

  • I guess this is when we were smuggling weapons to the Georgians to try and help them not get totally ass kicked by the Russians.

  • thats pretty badass

  • Amazing video. How much fuel is transferred to the C17 on this kind of refueling?

  • It really depends. Typically 80 to 100 thousand pounds of fuel.

  • @brownshorts1 Enough to drive your car several years ...

  • turbulence is very dangerous but when it looks like its rite over the window its about 20-30 feet so it wont make contact unless the operator isnt paying attention

  • beautiful

    Technology at its best

  • haider5555 This may be Technology at it's best. But, it would not be anything without the dedication of the operator and their service. Thanks to ALL aand God Bless

  • @renegade4ever1952

    true....

    Man at his best.....

  • Staffsmole, Why so grumpy? Just turn your volume down.

  • why the crap rendition of AC/DC?

I would have rather have a silent video to watch.

  • @staffsmole there is this thing called mute

  • Fantastic video, Dave. If I wasn't 62 years old I'd sign back up in a second. Liftnstow

  • I'm looking for public domain footage of air refueling, is this shot by us airforce or governement entities?

  • i have a video of me doing a c-17

  • The best and baddest transport in the world... the rest China, Russia, Europe can wish with envy they had it or could even produce something close to it (of course, with the exception of those nations who have bought the C-17).

  • Who sang Thunderstruck so bad?

  • This was really fun to watch. I didn't think the US Air Force let out things like this. It must be awesome to be part of such an op.

  • So I assume the C-17 sucks the KC-135 dry?

  • Not quite. It is rare that we need more than 80-100 thousand lbs of fuel. I am not sure exactly how much the 135 holds but they tend to have plenty to get home without any problem.

  • they dont suck us dry at all we have a tank for each engine and 4 along the body so we have more than enough

  • How dod u like in flight ref ueling was the technical training hard about 2 months or so?

  • its fun and no ive been in tech school since august and its the end of feb now and im just finishing

  • what about the depth perception test Im tryin for aerial gunner and was wondering how hard the depth test is and how much info they cram in your brain during tech was basic hard alot of running tryin to get ready

  • WOW, that is some stuff. That's what your going to do?

AWSUME, now I know why you ask about depth perception. I think you will do fine. As for the running, is that Army or Airforce?

I don't know about Basic now, in '71 we did a lot of marching and running at Ft. Lewis, Feb, in the rain.

    God Bless

  • running isnt that bad during basic, theyre arent to many ariel gunners cause when they find out what they realy do they tend 2 quit but they do cram yu with alot of stuff nd basic has nothing to do with it

  • From a Vietnam Vet THANK YOU AND ALL THAT ARE SERVING, FOR YOUR SERVICE.

  • yu paved the way buddy

  • boomoperator89. Thank you. But Thank you for continuing the fight of terannie. God Bless ALL serving. I salute you ALL

  • I love the engines

  • Great vid, but what's with the AC/DC imposters?

  • We have limits on the amount of turbulence we can fly in while refueling. The more experience you have, the more turbulence you might be willing to take on. At night in turbulence, most guys will hang back until it subsides. If it doesn't, then we fly to an alternate to refuel on the ground. During all air refuelings, the boom is actually "flown" by the boom operator. He/she helps to ensure it doesn't make contact with our front windows.

  • now thats a life saver

  • brownshorts, if you're allowed to say, was this during a deployment to Turkey?

We always loved to refuel the C-17s because we knew that the mission would always go.

When C-5s were scheduled to be the receivers it would start out with the mission slipping 2 hours, then it would slip 4 hours, before you knew it the mission would be scrubbed because the C-5 was sitting on Ramstein's ramp broke for one reason or another.

  • It was. Most of the time you can depend on us being on time. It was a great opportunity for me to see it from the KC-135 side.

  • ur planes do rock!

  • i gotta give u air force guys some credit, yall have fuckin awesome planes

  • That looks very hard to accomplish.

  • It is tough at first but with practice becomes second nature.

  • Amazing video!!

    amazing planes

    thank you

  • Pretty nice smooth contact.. Whos the Boom?

  • I never got his name. Nice guy though. I am a C-17 pilot that was able to fly with the KC-135 to see air refueling from their point of view. Very different seeing it from the tanker.

  • Ah.. I see.. Im a former boom from 434th and "Legacy", now im over the dark side flying hawks in the Army. AIR POWER

  • y did u click on the vid?

  • :O How the hell do you get these quility videos???? There ammmaaazzzziinnggg!!!

  • I just used my small digital camera and put it together with my mac I-book. Very easy.

  • probing...

  • That was really really really cool ;)

  • This pretty neat to watch.

  • What's the music ?

  • "Thunder Struck" by Birmingham 6. Album: Covered in Black. Enjoy.

  • Nice video!

  • that awesome man! i'm use to seeing it from the other side. i got some videos on here from our side of the connection looking at you guys. we've done that black sea line many times. thanks for the gas dude.....charleston load out
