It's similar to learning the skateboard or rollerblades. It takes a while to get used to. The hard part is engaging the skid plate to the rail, because the skid plate is only about 2 inches wide. If you miss and hit the rail with your shoe, you will just grip and fly off.... Once you engage the skid plate on the rail, then you just have to keep balance all the way through.
