They totally messed up IMO. Gohan only ever had real power when he got angry. He went level 2 when cell squished an andriods head that he didnt even know. Vegeta watches his son get shot through the chest and basically die and he still was no stronger than when he came out of the time chamber. @teo6049 They're two separate transformations. If he were to go Super Saiyan, he wouldn't be Mystic anymore. Mystic is also said to be stronger than his Super Saiyan 2 transformation.
Old Kai also said something like "to activate your hidden power, just do that Super Saiyan thing you do," which suggests it may have replaced it.

When Gohan goes Mystic, it's a different story, but at this point, Gohan is just that little kid that wants to help and for the first time in his life, just can't cut it.

I always think there's something quite sad about this theme. Gohan's strength only ever shows itself in response to great loss, which is quite tragic in a way - he'll always try to do what he can to play the hero role for those in peril, but in response to the serious and terminal threats, by the time he's ready and able to confront them, he's already too late to save those he cares about.

Goku was already an experienced SS when he and Gohan entered the HTC. Gohan hadn't even achieved SS yet. Yet halfway through his rigorous training, he was practically even with his father.
Goku even noted this, claiming that Gohan had become as good as he was. the Chamber is where Gohan had his first taste with the SS2 power. When Goku felt it, he was convinced it would be Gohan to beat Cell. He only needed help after he stopped training for 7 years.
The Mystic power up was Gohan's.."Sleeping Powers." It's true that he needed help to awaken it, but if he had kept training for the 7 year timeskip, it's how powerful he would've became.
It WAS never stated in an interview that MYSTIC GOHAN was stronger. There was an interview where akira talked about that, but that was BEFORE mystic gohan was introduced. So...I think it's up for interpretation, because Toriyama's views changed as the series progressed. He originally wanted dragonball to be a comedy...so yeah...I like goku, and he IS stronger that gohan because he has the genki dama, but think what you guys want, that's the fun of anime, but more DBZ!

Agreed. Gohan is in a totally different league, the anime doesn't give Gohan justice, they show Son Goku fighting Gohan inside Super Boo which just confuses everything! The manga clearly states and shows that Gohan, and Gotenks, is miles ahead of Son Goku.

@K4inan No, SS3 Goku is not stronger then Gohan, hell even Gotenks is on par with Goku level 3. The only thing Goku has on Gohan is battle experiance, when it comes to power it goes to Gohan. As for who would win in a fight? Debate all you want cause there is no answer to that, the facts cant be changed though.

SSjin Gotenks Post RoSaT would pound SSjin3 Goku to death, let alone the damage Chou Gohan would do. You need to understand that Gohan is in another league.

I know as fans we are all disappointed that Gohan didn't continue his training after the Cell saga, but watching the beginning of the Buu saga again, I think he takes it way worse than we can. He blindlessly rushes at Majin Buu so that he can prove to his father that he's still strong like him, and is blasted to the brink of death by the powerful Buu. I've never felt so much pity for a character. :'(

@Ghuntu1 I would love to think that Gohan is the selfless savior that he needs to be. But his personality just doesn't reflect that. Gohan was never as pure as his father, and two traits kept him back (from being pure)- his arrogance when at full power, and his scared nature that had followed him since he was a child. When Gohan goes Mystic, it's a different story, but at this point, Gohan is just that little kid that wants to help and for the first time in his life, just can't cut it.

I always think there's something quite sad about this theme. Gohan's strength only ever shows itself in response to great loss, which is quite tragic in a way - he'll always try to do what he can to play the hero role for those in peril, but in response to the serious and terminal threats, by the time he's ready and able to confront them, he's already too late to save those he cares about.

Goku was already an experienced SS when he and Gohan entered the HTC. Gohan hadn't even achieved SS yet. Yet halfway through his rigorous training, he was practically even with his father.
Goku even noted this, claiming that Gohan had become as good as he was. the Chamber is where Gohan had his first taste with the SS2 power. When Goku felt it, he was convinced it would be Gohan to beat Cell. He only needed help after he stopped training for 7 years.

It WAS never stated in an interview that MYSTIC GOHAN was stronger. There was an interview where akira talked about that, but that was BEFORE mystic gohan was introduced. So...I think it's up for interpretation, because Toriyama's views changed as the series progressed. He originally wanted dragonball to be a comedy...so yeah...I like goku, and he IS stronger that gohan because he has the genki dama, but think what you guys want, that's the fun of anime, but more DBZ!

But I think goku went SS3 and fought normal fat buu for awhile and looked like he could barely keep up, whereas mystic gohan fought super buu, who was alot stronger, and could beat him by staring at him (lol) :x though, I do see ur point as pure vs half, but also maybe theres something in gohan since he's mixed blood that makes him stronger :o not enough evidence to rlly compare x.x lets just say goku AND gohan kickass! Vegeta - Envy
Gohan - Cell etc.
Saiyans supress anger/rage/feelings more than humans.
So a hibrid would have the raw power of the saiyans, and the rage/feelings from humans, and since hes mom is chi-chi that ALOT of rage!
