sadly...i live in good ol so.cal good ol city of angels and have never been to The Griffith Observatory....Ms. Leah would you accompany me? and show me around ? = )
I don't know what telescope the general public use now but in 2001 they used one where you had to go halfway up some steps to look thought it. It was a bit awkward and I smacked my head on it. I apologise for any damage caused!
Regarding the Zeiss Telesscope, it's my understanding that a German gentleman named Carl Zeiss developed these particular lenses. And they are quite a Lens...! I have a Sony DSC-F828 Digital Cam w/Zeiss Lenses. It's awesome. Also, most of the videos I've watched here pertaining to Telescopes seem to focus more on the persons rather than the Telescopes. Thanks for altering that approach. Best wishes.

☻I've been to the Griffith Observatory, and inside they do give a little bit of credit to The Native American people of what is Now Mexico for being the pioneers of ArcheoAstronomy, but in this Video they don't mention that.
☻The "modern" observatories are replicas of the Observatories of Native people, Google the snail "caracol" of Chichen Itza. It's the same structure.
YAH!!! i know huh! (half the comments on here are about that girl, so i guess no one else noticed it.) but yah! they didnt mention anything about that....
man. i LOVE the Griffith observatory!
i wasnt paying attention, i was reading the comments, but did they mention anything about Mr. Griffith himself?
Great video tour of the Griffith Observatory. I had no idea there was such a great Observatory so near L.A. Light pollution has little effect on Planetary Observing and there is a cosmic zoo of stars, Red Super Giants, White Dwarfs, Black Holes, etc to look at. Eta Auriga is about to be eclipsed by a huge and unkown dark object. The star will dim over the next year - Astronomers are watching intently! Great Video!
I'd be pissed if my I had my observatory ruined by one of the worlds most polluted cities, in amostpheric conditions, and light pollution. That observatory is pretty much useless now.
i was watching the moon one night and a satelite shape passed in front of it,it was proper sweet!now it sits in my loft gathering dust i might whip it out and fry ants with it :D
Check out J Track 3d on Nasas site. You can find satellites positions including ISS(international space station). Click on the ones orbiting closest to earth to view its ground trace(a line on earch where the sat passes directly overhead) and go find the ones near you. Its exciting to see the ISS. Viewing times are available specifically for the ISS. Additional software is available for people that want more...
You can use a box with a circle in it to view the sun. Put a circle in the side of a box and a sturdy piece of white paper on the opposite side in the box. Go outside, let light enter through the hole and hit the paper. Takes two minutes and you can see spots on the sun too. To test it you can view an uncovered light bulb in a dark room. Easy and fun.

Not to the real stars, in space.

They all look and sound the same! Boring, plain, stupid people; their all like babies.
Happy when the media etc give them attention, and then cry and commit suicide when they don't.

@xetor2007 i have a semi silly question. are the lights left on in the observatory when you do astronomy viewing with the telescope?
yuppybarf 1 year ago
@yuppybarf - If I remember correctly there is lighting, but not too bright. so as to spoil the viewing.
