What does this do? In non religious terms.. I'm an atheist and I've read that wrapping the arm in this fashion has similar effects on the body as acupuncture (since each loop hits a pressure point). Sort of how Yoga has a stimulating effect that is scientifically measurable. Tefillin too has "real world" value for those of us who aren't religious. I'm just curious to know how this effects mental clarity scientifically, so I can start harvesting the benefits.

Tefillin poses absolutely no risk on plane. Like all carry-on items, they are checked by security and go through an x-ray machine. A ban on tefillin would violate the Civil Rights Act.

I have worn it on a plane at least a dozen times on long flights. I even laid Tefillin on Quatar Airlines... You should lay Tefillin as much as possible and appropriate. I hope everyday lest Shabbat day and should only in the day. It helps the world when you do.

I'm not offended, and I'm not jewish. Just pointing out that this is an ancient practice, not a new thing. It's like thousands of years old, Jesus was probably even using one of these. Regardless, its leather and paper, I'd be more concerned about a sketchy looking 17 year old with an ipod on getting tranced up to set something off like a bomb. And the main point, as unpopular as it is to address it, is that Muslim men are the ones bombing planes! No one else! Sorry to point that out......
