The only thing i didn't like about the new nightmare was the fact that they turned freddy into a child molester! Freddy is a KILLER, not a fucking RAPIST! Jackie did a great job playing the part, but i think the director should be neutered and killed lmao
@firemodz1 Um, Freddy was originally supposed to be a child molester, but Wes felt that it would be too much for the time, so he changed it from molester to killer. He said he felt that it wast he worst thing that could happen to a child. And why do you think he took them to a boiler room?
@BlodyTmesMassHystria It sure as hell wasn't for milk and cookies. And why do you think the parents went after him? Because he did some things to children that was deemed horrible.
This guy is one of the most kickass actors I've ever seen in my entire life! He done brilliant as Rorschach, he done well in Shutter Island, and HE FUCKING KICKED ASS AS FREDDY KRUEGER!!!
I liked the remake but I just wish they didn't make the makeup like they did and I wish he brought back the funnyness to the movie. Other then that i liked it
The remake of the Nightmare On Elm Street sucked and this JEH is not like the orignal freddy. but other than that Kellen Lutz was HOT as hell :) in the remake
Remake was awesome!! I enjoy the dark, evil Freddy... Im a fan of the originals parts 1-3 but then got stupid when Freddy got all comical totally lost his horror, evil credibility that was built up in his character in the early films
The only thing I didn't like about the reimaging was the make up for Freddy. Jackie did a great job as Freddy. Just hated the make up for him, he isn't supposed to be based in the real world of burn victims. He's Freddy freaking Krueger the dream stalker, not the real world stalker.
@DanielleSantos711 Absolutely. I just watched it earlier on Cinemax and he STILL gives me the creeps! He was menacing, scary, vicious, vile and not to mention, disturbing. Everything Freddy Krueger is suppose to be. Also, I love how he was flick his claws together to make a near nerve racking and eerie noise. It really did have the desire effect building up fear.
Jackie Earle Haley sucks as Freddy! He has not the appropriate personality to play that role! And by the way, Freddy is a child murderer NOT a pedophile! For what purpose does a pedophile need a blade glove???
@germanleatherface In the original series, it was heavily implied that Freddy was a pedophile other than a child murderer. He use the bladed glove to do all kinds of filthy and horrific things to children(i.e. torture & murder) & possibly some adults. There's no telling about that half the time when it comes to Freddy. Btw, say what you want about JEH & that's your opinion. But even though he won't be as admired as Robert Englund in Freddy Krueger, he did a great job in the new film.
@Gabreya In the original series Freddy killed the Springwood kids with his glove and burned the corpses in the boiler of the power plant where he worked. Possible that he did sexual misuse too but that was never mentioned. No one of his victims survived - otherwise there would have been witnesses in Freddy's trial. In my opinion JEH was not horrible at all.
@germanleatherface Yeah. I think he killed like 20 or more kids from what I remember. & the fact that he burned their bodies after killing them with his glove(I heard he may have had more) most likely explained why the authorities and court didn't have enough or any evidence against him to convict him. You're right about the possible witnesses. Still, I think he did sexually abuse them, too. JEH did his best in the remake & I think he did a great job. His Freddy gives me the downright creeps.
@Gabreya i also agree that hes great. You say hes great in every movie he has been in, but why do people say hes shit as freddy krueger? He did a great job moulding freddys personality to make him a lot scarier and darker. He is awesome!
@DJBANNANA98 I think the reason people say he sucks as Freddy Krueger is cause Robert Englund isn't playing Freddy anymore & they're use to seeing him more than Jackie. Some people are just too quick to judge & bash him that they don't see that he did his best in the role and quite frankly, he did a damn good job. I mean, it's ok that they didn't like him in the role & didn't like remake, but bashing him is not cool & insulting people who did appreciate his performance is uncalled for.
@DJBANNANA98 I mean, I'm a fan of the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' franchise & Robert's portrayal will ALWAYS be here but I also LOVED Jackie's portrayal. When I first heard about a remake, I'll admit that I was concerned, & then I heard that Jackie was chosen, & to be honest, I was rather excited. I actually was willing to give him a chance, unlike most people who were being unfair & judgmental towards him. I finally saw him in the movie and creeped me out! At times, I felt uneasy & frightened....
@DJBANNANA98 To me, Jackie's Freddy was probably a bit darker, scarier, & much more sick. Well, Robert's Freddy was definetly sick, twisted, & sadistic, but I don't think he was as a dark & pissed off as this one. They're both AWESOME still! :D Also, one of things that I noticed is how this Freddy is really bitter and pissed to where it's truelly terrorfying. He was still a little sadistically humourous with lines like, "Why are you screaming? I haven't even cut you yet."
@DJBANNANA98 I agree completely. Also though, you should check him out in his Oscar nominated performance as the mentally ill sex offender, Ronnie, in 'Little Children' and the badass little kid, Kelly Leak, from 'Bad News Bears' from 1976. He's great in basically every movie he's been in.
@Gabreya They haven`t met as of yet BUT THEY`VE BOTH SHOWN TREMENDOUS RESPECT FOR EACHOTHER IN INTERVIEWS :
Robert Englund : " Jackie is a very interesting choice . Jackie has that wiry build and I think that`s gonna work to his advantage in playing Freddy . I`ve always seen Freddy as sort of a rabid dog that grabs onto your ankle and doesn`t let go and I think Jackie brings that naturally with his physicality . "
@1993MovieMan Oh. I sure hope they meet eachother someday because I think that would be great. They both appear to be such nice guys and so humble. I think they'd get along well. Yeah, I know very well that they both have such TREMENDOUS RESPECT FOR EACHOTHER and are really cool guys. I forgotten insanely talented, too.
Robert and Jackie ALSO think alike as they`ve BOTH compared The " Nightmare on Elm Street " Films and Horror Films in general to " Those scary stories you heard around the campfire as a kid " , as well as saying playing Freddy gave them A Newfound Respect for The Horror Genre .
@1993MovieMan You know what? Now that you mention it, THEY DO THINK ALIKE when it comes how the horror genre operates and what drives it. I agree about how play Freddy gave them Newfound Respect for the Horror Genre and how he is beloved horror icon. :)
@Gabreya They`re ALSO BOTH Valleyboys ! Robert Englund was born in Glendale like me , Jackie Earle Haley was born in Northridge ! If ya listen close , you can kinda hear Jackie`s Natural Valleyboy Accent slipping through Freddy`s Trademark Midwestern Accent in The Remake especially when Freddy says , " Hi Kris , you look just as beautiful as ever " !
@1993MovieMan Amazing. Both Freddys are Valleyboys! Totally rad. I knew Robert was born in Glendale, California but I never knew Jackie was born in Northridge. Nice! I gotta look and listen again in that scene where Kris first dreams about Freddy in class. That's actually one of my favorite scenes from the movie.
@1993MovieMan Oh, 2 more things. One of them is a question, if you don't mind.
1. Forgive me if this is rhetorical question. I was wondering. Is Jackie related to Jack Haley, the guy who played the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz movie? I've seen it many times and I loved it. Though, one time, I was reading the trivia section for that movie and they happen to bring up Jackie's name(JEH and Jack Haley's names are sorta similar). I didn't really pay attention at the time until now. What you think?
1 . Yes , Jackie Earle Haley is The Paternal Grandson of Jack Haley ( Birthname : John Joseph )and his Birthname , Jack Earle Haley , is A Combination of his Grandfather`s Chosen Name ( he legally changed his Name as he was Jewish and at The Time there was alot of Anti-Semitism )and his Father Haven Earle " Bud " Haley`s Middle Name !
1. Oh ok! That's wonderful. So, Jack's real name was John Joseph(nice). I know about the anti-Semtism in that golden age era. Terrible. I read somewhere on the WOZ trivia that Jack would use his normal voice(he used the high pitch voice for the Tin Man) for his son, Jack Jr. So, Haven is Jackie's father, not Jack Jr., right? Correct me if I'm wrong. Btw, thank you so much for confirming that. I've been wondering for a while if they are related or not.
Yeah , Haven`s Jackie Earle`s Father and Jack Jr. was his Older Brother ! Jack Haley and Jack Jr. are Dead while Haven and Jackie Earle ( obviously )are Still Alive !
@1993MovieMan Oh okay! So, Jack Jr. is Jackie's uncle. Got it. Yeah, I already know that Jack and Jack Jr. are deceased. :( But I'm glad Haven and Jackie are still here though. I love his father's name, too. Btw, quick question:Were any of Jack Haley's sons, Jack Jr. and Haven, into acting before Jackie took on that career?
@Gabreya While Haven`s ( BTW , my Last Name`s Havens , my First Name`s Bobby and I was born in Glendale ) done some Acting , he`s best known as A Radio Personality under The Pseudonym " Bud " Haley !
Btw, my username is my real name(Gabreya) thanks to my father, but that's another story entirely.
Oh. So, Haven, or should I say, Bud has done some acting and did radio. Cool. I know that he, along with Jack, had inspired Jackie in the acting profession.
@Gabreya Gabreya ?That`s Irish , right ? I`m of Scotch-Irish( as well as French , Austrian , Ukrainian , Polish , Dutch and mainly Danish ) Descent on my Mom`s Side myself !
@1993MovieMan Lol! No. I'm Black. My family is mixed of African and Native Americans. My paternal great-grandmother is Native American. I'd seen a picture of her and she is just beautiful.
About my name, when I was born, my mother wanted to name me either Caitlin or Gabrielle. Something rather Biblical and beautiful. My father decided I should have a really different name. His neice's, my cousin, name is Shaundreya and he used the name Gabrielle....
@1993MovieMan ....mixed those two names together(plus he wanted me to have a name that starts with a 'g', considering that his name is Gregory):Shaundreya + Gabrielle = Gabreya. He took off the Shaun part and the ielle, and thus made GABREYA. My mom gave me my middle name, though. It's Aletrice and it rhymes and is tribute to her mother, my grandmother whose name is Beatrice. And my last name is Bradley which is my dad's name.
@1993MovieMan Yeah. So, that's how I got my name, Gabreya. :) But oh my gosh! For so many years that I've been in school, going to the doctors for an appointment, and still to this day anywhere, people would have trouble saying my name. Of course, who could blame them? My name is not exactly the type you hear everyday and is very different. Lol! They would accidently pronounce it Kabreya, Gabreiia, Dabreya, etc. Lol!!! My mom and I had to work with them on saying it and eventually, they got it.
@Gabreya Interesting ! I got My Name The Exact Opposite Way Jackie got his ! My First and Last Name are from my Dad , my Middle Name ( Russell ) is from my Maternal Grandfather who was in The Allied Navy during World War II and died of A Stroke Two Years before I was born !
@1993MovieMan Awesome name history. That is the opposite of how Jackie got his name! I'm sorry about your grandfather. :( When I was 6 or 7 years old, my maternal grandmother(the same grandmother whom my middle name was named for) died after a long horrible battle with diabetes. We use to call her Madea. It took a while for my mother to get over the but she's better. Still, she misses her everyday. And I hate that I only have a few memories of her from when I was born to the age of 6 or 7.
@1993MovieMan My relatives and even other people often say that I look like my maternal grandmother. As a matter of fact, I look like both her and my mother. Madea had 6 children(4 girls and 2 boys). Out of all of them, my mom, who was her 5th child, resembled her the most. Then, from when I was born up to now, I also took on the family resemblance of both of them. However, I'm tall like my father and have a deep voice like my paternal grandmother. Lol! As a little girl, my voice was pretty deep
@1993MovieMan Of course, it gotten a little normal over the years but it still sounds deep. As for my height, I have a long torso and long arms. Sometimes, I feel embarrased but have to deal with it. Say, do you have anyone, other than your parents, that you may resemble the most? Just wondering. Btw, I've seen sorta the resemblance between Jackie and Jack which kinda got me thinking that they were related. Also, and I don't mean to sound insensitive or rude but I wonder why is Jackie short.
@Gabreya Some People are just born short ! Also , most of Jackie`s Family have been short ! Jack Haley ACTUALLY wore Lifts to appear taller as The Tin Man !
@1993MovieMan Really?! I didn't know Jack in fact wore lifts in 'Wizard of Oz'! He fooled me good. Boy, am I a doofus. :P So, the majority of the Haley Family are rather short. :)
@1993MovieMan Enough about me. Wow. You have a lot in your blood. Awesome. So, you're of Scotch-Irish, French, Austrian, Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch, and Danish Descent, thanks in part to your mom. Great! You have so many backgrounds, cultures, and styles to be proud of in your family. :)
@1993MovieMan Also, Robert is of Swedish Descent, isn't he? Because I read somewhere on his bio that his parents or maybe his grandparents were Swedish immigrants.
@1993MovieMan I know! I'd seen a show in three videos here on YouTube a few years back where two of the hosts(both male) and younger co-host(female), whom I think were all from Sweden, interviewed Robert personally. It was great and hilarious! They interviewed him at his house, around town, on the beach...well, basically they were hanging out with him. Lucky dudes. Anyway, somewhere in the interview, they were talking a little bit about his family background and he said that he was of....
@1993MovieMan ...of Swedish Descent and they talked about that for a while. He said that ironically he CAN'T and DOES NOT, as you said, speak Swedish. Though, a little later on, he did attempted to with the help of the hosts. LOL! I forgotten what that show was called. But it was once here and it was very enjoyable. Some of the best moments from what I can remember was after Robert and the hosts been to dinner, he was driving them around town in their car and seemingly kept making wrong turns...
@1993MovieMan ...wrong turns. He was getting irritated and screaming profanities in a hilarious way when they were sorta lost on the freeway. Though, just so you know, he wasn't yelling at his guests. No. He's such sweet guy. Lol! He's awesome!
@1993MovieMan ...I actually looked at Jack and Jackie, and can kinda see the family resembelance a little bit. Believe or not, that was one of the things that got me thinking if they were kin to one another. Somewhere in my mind, it was most likely but I wasn't so sure. Mental connection. Btw, the acting talent seem to run in the family, you know what I mean? Even though I only saw Jack in the Wizard of Oz, I thought he was a great actor. And of course, Jackie is superb in everything he does. :)
2. I just noticed that BOTH Robert and Jackie's voices sound pretty normal and rather high pitched. Especially for their ages. They sound like much younger guys when they talk. They're both are rather older yet you never know it by their voices & personalities. As Freddy, both of them sound pretty monstrous, deep, and intimidating whereas themselves, they sound gentle, light, and smooth. Also, they sound personable when they talk, even the the things they talk about. :)
@1993MovieMan Sure does! I LOVE it! BOTH Robert and Jackie sound incredible when they talk. :) Robert is in his 60s and sound like he's in his 20s or 30s. Jackie is in his 40s-50s and sound like in his 20s! I find it amazing and cool. Plus, they both look like they're in good health and as you said, energetic. :) :D
@1993MovieMan Say, in that same scene in the remake where Kris dreams about Freddy in class, when he says,"You really shouldn't fall alseep in class?", he sounded strangely normal and montone, and didn't sound as monstrous as he was the rest of the movie. I mean, it was deep but it wasn't supernatural-like and demonic.
@Gabreya They probably weren`t using as much Mechanical Modulation when we hear Freddy speak for The First Time in Kris` Dream ! Jackie stated Modulation was used to make him sound " less Rorschach " and " more Freddy " ( that is , NOT An Exact Mimic of Robert Englund`s Performance but with That Deep , Demonic Midwestern Accent Englund gave The Character albeit Scratchier and More Tortured ) !
@1993MovieMan Agreed. You're right. I think they did use the Mechanical Modulation when they were working on his voice. You're absolutely right. I read that they didn't want him to sound like his last role, Rorscach, and they want him as Freddy to sound otherworldly and threatening. Plus, as you mentioned, they didn't want to mimic Robert's portrayal and decided to try something different.
@Gabreya An In-Story Explanation might be Freddy was deliberately trying to sound like his " Psychopath`s Approximation of Normal " in order to give Kris A False Sense of Security ( this is backed up by The Fact he was quietly scrawling on The Chalkboard with his Claws at The Same Time ) ! Needless to say , it didn`t exactly work as Freddy planned as The Monotone unnerved Kris even more !
@1993MovieMan Definetly. And I think that goes along the notion that Freddy loves to play or "have some fun" with his victims before he kills them. So, from what you said, him using a montone voice was perhaps part of his playing with toward Kris here in this scene. Also, when he says, "You have nothing to worry about. This won't hurt one...little...BIT.", his voice sounds like it's going from kinda normal and monotone to deep and monstrously angry.
@1993MovieMan I could be wrong but I think at that moment, Freddy didn't look as if he was going to kill her right then. He seemed to have wanted to simply frighten her. Which might explain why he said to her to not worry while he briefly cut off a few strands of her hair. But much later at home, after Kris's mother went to work to where she was slowing finding out about what was going on, what really happened to Dean, and Jessie's input into this, Freddy finally made his move and killed her.
Old freddy, new Freddy, I liked them both. My only compliant from the remake is the writers didn't use the scene from the original when freddy came out of the alleyway & both of his arms were stretched out a good 10" each. That scene was CLASSIC in the first one. They could've done SO MUCH with that one scene. It was incredible.
@streetfighterchallen Yeah man! my mom always says "do a freddy kruger" whenever I have to reach for something, she been saying that since I was a kid lol
Get real guys Robert englund in pretty old in his late 60s I believe he's way to old to be laughing and screaming give the guy a break can't expect him to play Krueger til he passes away but it's time to pass the glove off to Jackie which was a badass Freddy in my opinion seriously they made him scary and creepy not comical and retarded kills and what not Roberts a great Freddy Krueger he's definitely the best but I think Jackie was amazing coming close to robert (here comes the hate)
@TheShadowmaster1010 Make a machine that makes people younger and I'm right there wit'cha, till then, keep your love of Robert going, but stop hating on the new guy, he has it hard enough trying to do it without people like you on his back, He has some serious shoes to fill, but i'm positive he'll try his best.
Imagine if we got Robert's Freddy and Jackie's Freddy to team up in a special film.
A good plot excuse could be that Robert's Freddy finds a vortex in hell that takes him to Jackie's Freddy's dimention and, after a confrontation in which they find out they are one and the same...only different, they team up to kill people in both dimensions.
If one Freddy was dangerous enough....try TWO of them!
I liked the new Freddy, as it reminded me more of the meaner and darker original Freddy from the first film instead of the comedian cartoon he had become. I also thought the teenagers seemed more believable.
Everyone keeps bashing this remake (which really wasn't that bad of a movie at all) but nobody is talking about the shitty sequels that followed. There did not need to be SIX SEQUELS to the original. I mean really. And Freddy vs Jason is just embarrassing.
Jackie seems like a good guy, and he's a good actor, but i don't think the makeup was right for the new freddy, and the voice didn't suit the character - it's good for some characters, but not others. i don't hate Jackie's performance, though i can't really judge because although i've seen parts of both films, i've never actually seen the whole film, but from what i've seen, i must say i prefer Robert's Freddy :)
I think the main problem is Haley. He's a great actor but approached playing Freddy all wrong. He said he didn't intend to have Englund's performances influence his own, and therein lies the problem seeing as how Englunds performance...IS FREDDY. Freddy is a stock character now and is defined by how Robert played him. When you are not "influenced" by Roberts Freddy...you aren't Freddy.
And also the makeup made Freddy look far too unthreatening.
Now see, that's the thing. If Jackie had tried to copy Robert's perfomance (which no actor has any interest in doing) you and every other Nightmare fan would have still complained. It doesn't matter how Jackie approached the role. Because he's not Robert Englund, you and the others will always have problem.
Also, I liked the makeup. It was more grounded into reality. Real burn victims actually look like that, and that's what made it scarier.
@SlasherIncorporatedI wouldn't have complained actually because A) I am not a fan and B) if he played Freddy well then there would be no reason to complain.
And yes Freddy was a burn "victim" but he also was a demon so of course he didn't look like he had just crawled off the slab and put on a glove and hat.
Don’t get me wrong I really like Jackie
But anyway, what's done is done and if people don't like it they can just watch the old movies.
Well, Jackie playing Freddy "wrong" is your opinion. Nobody said Jackie HAD to be the Robert Englund Freddy. This is not the old Freddy everybody is used to seeing. This is a brand new one. So of course Haley gave a different interpretation. Honestly, I don't think anybody was intersted in seeing Jackie trying to copy Robert. They wanted Englund back.
But yes, you are right. What's done is done. If people don't like the Remake than they can always go watch the originals.
I dont understand why people are taking this so personally. Jackie was offered the role of a lifetime, who wouldnt accept being asked to play freddy krueger? Rob englund portrayed him for 20 years, and did a fantastic job doing so, but jackie made the character his own and did amazingly too. As foe those complaining about the lack of humor, first off that's the writer's fault, and second they did that on purpose to make it darker. There is still a few instances of comic relief. Its hard to comp
@TrailofJoker08 lol...the new movie just sucks..ripped off everything from the original and on top of it they turned freddy into a pedophile...dont defend that piece of shit movie
@urmom10132.....seeing him lick that little girls photo as human freddy was disturbing enough!
Imagine if you could go back in time and correct the search warrent papers...but urge the judge NOT to sentence Freddy to death...as that would only make him become a slightly different version of the dream-master freddy (let's say he's given the needle instead of being burnt....he'd end up as a pale corpse, frothing at the mouth all the time)....but still murderous and evil.
@1Dudelove "seeing him lick that little girls photo as human freddy was disturbing enough!".... I'd have to agree with you there it was disturbing.............. A pale frothing at the mouth Freddy... hmmm...... actually not that bad of an idea.. sounds like it'd be cool to have.... I can kind of vision it in my head :)
@TrailofJoker08 It wasnt the lack of humor but his personality over all, when you remake something your expecting simular results and this freddy just well he was too dark to seem to ejoy his job. his evil was too sincere. Old freddy wasnt humorous but he gave off an air of "i'm going to get you and theres nothin you can do about it" its not that he was funny but he was having fun. new freddy is just angry cause hes dead and wants revenge. and his voice doesnt help either
@whatgari Well , that`s your problem . Jackie`s Freddy was closer to The Original Intention for The Character : A Cold-Blooded , Tortured Revenge Killer and Child Molester ! Face it , A Dude who was burned alive would not be A Wisecracking Jokester , he would be Ice-Cold( in Personality , not Body Heat ) and Pissed-Off !
@1993MovieMan Hold up did you forget that writers and directors are behind a movies intention? So if freddy wasnt meant to be that way, than dirctors and writers would of stepped in during the making of the film. besides how do you know what a cold-blooded toretured molester would behave like? For one is a child molester even cold blooded? plus the way he died he was running and crying like a little baby. Although freddy's story made sense, how do you molest a child with claws?
@whatgari Maybe so , but sometimes Reality intervenes ! That`s what happened to The Original Script ! See , Wes Craven INITIALLY EXPLICITLY wrote Freddy as A Child Molester BUT there were A String of Molestation Cases at The Time The Film was being made so he changed The Character to A Child Murderer and ONLY SLYLY Hinted at The Molestation Aspect ! By " Freddy vs. Jason " and " New Nightmare " , IT WAS OBVIOUS Freddy WAS DOIN` MORE TO THE KIDS THAN JUST KILLIN` `EM !
1. Cold-Blooded is A Figurative Word used by Police and Psychologists to describe A Remorseless Psychopath
2 . Ofcourse , he was running and crying ! Even Psychopaths wanna live unless they`re Over-The-Top Masochists and Fred WASN`T Immortal yet at That Point !
3 . How do you molest A Child with Claws ?!?!? VERY Easily ! Run The Claws down The Child`s Flesh , slash`em on The Chest and Back and you get The Point !
he seems like a lovely guy. He was an awesome freddy and comparrisons to Englund are unfair because they are different freddys. I didnt like the new film but thought he was great,
The new film is impressive as far as special effects bit they didn't do an impressive job on the make up for Freddy. It looks totally different than the Freddy that Robert created
Ya know, the whole time I was watching this.. I was sneering... I can't staaaaaaand this dood.. i cant stand the movie.. i cant stand the new freddy... >_< BLEHH!!
awesome interview, i loved jackie as freddy, i dont think there could have been anybody else who could have pulled it of like jackie .... other than robert of course !
For the shoes he had to fill, I think that Jackie did a good job. He portrayed him a lot darker and he actually kind of scared me a bit (i saw it at the drive inns.) Robert is the best Freddy, yes, but Jackie certainly wasn't terrible. :)
To me there is only one Freddy Krueger and that is of Robert Englund. New freddy was just okay.... nothing special and no sense of humour at all. Still nice to have new films released all the same, just wish Robert wud have taken the job!
@JMoney002 I enjoed it plenty. I think of it as a new freddy for a new set of generations to come. Lets ask our kids who's better when they see both actors in action.
@SaucyMonkey4eva That is pathetic. They BOTH did an amazing job. Theres no need to detest Jackie, if you want to take you're anger out on someone, take it out on Robert, because HE refused to keep that role. Jackie, was offered it, and he accepted. So SHUT THE FUCK UP and learn what is actually going on here, because Jackie was doing his job and Robert was'nt doing his. LEGIT.
@GeorgiaLouise2010 Robert was never offered the role as Freddy in the remake. There are several videos on here, where he says he was never offered to take up the Freddy character again. On the flip side, Jackie did the best he could, he was no Robert. But the same would be said about anyone who plays Freddy after Robert. Robert does not deserve to be blamed for anything, all the blame goes to Michael Bay.
i wonder how it feels watching a film about yourself. I would be like... well idk... it would feel so odd just seeing myself in tons of makeup just slaughtering teenagers
blackheart103 u didnt hav to be an ass about it and atleast now know that there will always be atleast 1 hater in the world. And if any1 has a sencer suggestion on wat to do next plzz feel free, jus plzz dont be like blackheart103. Thanks
@jaynightmare5 i guess u could just go to the platinum dunes or new line websites and see if theres like an email address or something... maybe email them ur draft. or see if they have a physical street address on their websites where u can mail it to them. or maybe go on twitter cos Jackie Earle Haley is on twitter, maybe u could do an @ reply to him with a link to ur script?? I know these are all probably a long shot but definately worth a try, what have u got to lose??? Hope this helps :)
Respond to this video... any1 knows any possible way that i could show my draft to the sequel of nightmare on elm street its really good, every1 i showed it to said they would go see it.
The only thing i didn't like about the new nightmare was the fact that they turned freddy into a child molester! Freddy is a KILLER, not a fucking RAPIST! Jackie did a great job playing the part, but i think the director should be neutered and killed lmao

The only thing I didn't like about the reimaging was the make up for Freddy. Jackie did a great job as Freddy. Just hated the make up for him, he isn't supposed to be based in the real world of burn victims. He's Freddy freaking Krueger the dream stalker, not the real world stalker.
MrDarknessForever 3 months ago 10
Jackie was AWSOME in the remake. he scared the crap out of me. :)
DanielleSantos711 3 months ago 9
@DanielleSantos711 Absolutely. I just watched it earlier on Cinemax and he STILL gives me the creeps! He was menacing, scary, vicious, vile and not to mention, disturbing. Everything Freddy Krueger is suppose to be. Also, I love how he was flick his claws together to make a near nerve racking and eerie noise. It really did have the desire effect building up fear.

Jackie Earle Haley sucks as Freddy! He has not the appropriate personality to play that role! And by the way, Freddy is a child murderer NOT a pedophile! For what purpose does a pedophile need a blade glove???
germanleatherface 3 months ago
@germanleatherface In the original series, it was heavily implied that Freddy was a pedophile other than a child murderer. He use the bladed glove to do all kinds of filthy and horrific things to children(i.e. torture & murder) & possibly some adults. There's no telling about that half the time when it comes to Freddy. Btw, say what you want about JEH & that's your opinion. But even though he won't be as admired as Robert Englund in Freddy Krueger, he did a great job in the new film.
Gabreya 3 months ago
@Gabreya In the original series Freddy killed the Springwood kids with his glove and burned the corpses in the boiler of the power plant where he worked. Possible that he did sexual misuse too but that was never mentioned. No one of his victims survived - otherwise there would have been witnesses in Freddy's trial. In my opinion JEH was not horrible at all.
germanleatherface 3 months ago

DJBANNANA98 3 months ago
@DJBANNANA98 I think the reason people say he sucks as Freddy Krueger is cause Robert Englund isn't playing Freddy anymore & they're use to seeing him more than Jackie. Some people are just too quick to judge & bash him that they don't see that he did his best in the role and quite frankly, he did a damn good job. I mean, it's ok that they didn't like him in the role & didn't like remake, but bashing him is not cool & insulting people who did appreciate his performance is uncalled for.
Gabreya 3 months ago
@DJBANNANA98 I mean, I'm a fan of the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' franchise & Robert's portrayal will ALWAYS be here but I also LOVED Jackie's portrayal. When I first heard about a remake, I'll admit that I was concerned, & then I heard that Jackie was chosen, & to be honest, I was rather excited. I actually was willing to give him a chance, unlike most people who were being unfair & judgmental towards him. I finally saw him in the movie and creeped me out! At times, I felt uneasy & frightened....
Gabreya 3 months ago

Gabreya 4 months ago

Thank you, MovieMan. :)
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya They`re ALSO BOTH Valleyboys ! Robert Englund was born in Glendale like me , Jackie Earle Haley was born in Northridge ! If ya listen close , you can kinda hear Jackie`s Natural Valleyboy Accent slipping through Freddy`s Trademark Midwestern Accent in The Remake especially when Freddy says , " Hi Kris , you look just as beautiful as ever " !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Amazing. Both Freddys are Valleyboys! Totally rad. I knew Robert was born in Glendale, California but I never knew Jackie was born in Northridge. Nice! I gotta look and listen again in that scene where Kris first dreams about Freddy in class. That's actually one of my favorite scenes from the movie.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Oh, 2 more things. One of them is a question, if you don't mind.
1. Forgive me if this is rhetorical question. I was wondering. Is Jackie related to Jack Haley, the guy who played the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz movie? I've seen it many times and I loved it. Though, one time, I was reading the trivia section for that movie and they happen to bring up Jackie's name(JEH and Jack Haley's names are sorta similar). I didn't really pay attention at the time until now. What you think?
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya
Yeah , Haven`s Jackie Earle`s Father and Jack Jr. was his Older Brother ! Jack Haley and Jack Jr. are Dead while Haven and Jackie Earle ( obviously )are Still Alive !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago

@1993MovieMan Nice. You have a beautiful name. :)

Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan ....mixed those two names together(plus he wanted me to have a name that starts with a 'g', considering that his name is Gregory):Shaundreya + Gabrielle = Gabreya. He took off the Shaun part and the ielle, and thus made GABREYA. My mom gave me my middle name, though. It's Aletrice and it rhymes and is tribute to her mother, my grandmother whose name is Beatrice. And my last name is Bradley which is my dad's name.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Yeah. So, that's how I got my name, Gabreya. :) But oh my gosh! For so many years that I've been in school, going to the doctors for an appointment, and still to this day anywhere, people would have trouble saying my name. Of course, who could blame them? My name is not exactly the type you hear everyday and is very different. Lol! They would accidently pronounce it Kabreya, Gabreiia, Dabreya, etc. Lol!!! My mom and I had to work with them on saying it and eventually, they got it.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya Interesting ! I got My Name The Exact Opposite Way Jackie got his ! My First and Last Name are from my Dad , my Middle Name ( Russell ) is from my Maternal Grandfather who was in The Allied Navy during World War II and died of A Stroke Two Years before I was born !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Awesome name history. That is the opposite of how Jackie got his name! I'm sorry about your grandfather. :( When I was 6 or 7 years old, my maternal grandmother(the same grandmother whom my middle name was named for) died after a long horrible battle with diabetes. We use to call her Madea. It took a while for my mother to get over the but she's better. Still, she misses her everyday. And I hate that I only have a few memories of her from when I was born to the age of 6 or 7.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan My relatives and even other people often say that I look like my maternal grandmother. As a matter of fact, I look like both her and my mother. Madea had 6 children(4 girls and 2 boys). Out of all of them, my mom, who was her 5th child, resembled her the most. Then, from when I was born up to now, I also took on the family resemblance of both of them. However, I'm tall like my father and have a deep voice like my paternal grandmother. Lol! As a little girl, my voice was pretty deep
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Of course, it gotten a little normal over the years but it still sounds deep. As for my height, I have a long torso and long arms. Sometimes, I feel embarrased but have to deal with it. Say, do you have anyone, other than your parents, that you may resemble the most? Just wondering. Btw, I've seen sorta the resemblance between Jackie and Jack which kinda got me thinking that they were related. Also, and I don't mean to sound insensitive or rude but I wonder why is Jackie short.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya Some People are just born short ! Also , most of Jackie`s Family have been short ! Jack Haley ACTUALLY wore Lifts to appear taller as The Tin Man !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Really?! I didn't know Jack in fact wore lifts in 'Wizard of Oz'! He fooled me good. Boy, am I a doofus. :P So, the majority of the Haley Family are rather short. :)

@1993MovieMan Enough about me. Wow. You have a lot in your blood. Awesome. So, you're of Scotch-Irish, French, Austrian, Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch, and Danish Descent, thanks in part to your mom. Great! You have so many backgrounds, cultures, and styles to be proud of in your family. :)
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Also, Robert is of Swedish Descent, isn't he? Because I read somewhere on his bio that his parents or maybe his grandparents were Swedish immigrants.

@Gabreya Yes , he IS indeed of Swedish Descent though he stated in An Interview he DOES NOT speak Swedish contrary to Popular Belief !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan I know! I'd seen a show in three videos here on YouTube a few years back where two of the hosts(both male) and younger co-host(female), whom I think were all from Sweden, interviewed Robert personally. It was great and hilarious! They interviewed him at his house, around town, on the beach...well, basically they were hanging out with him. Lucky dudes. Anyway, somewhere in the interview, they were talking a little bit about his family background and he said that he was of....
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan ...of Swedish Descent and they talked about that for a while. He said that ironically he CAN'T and DOES NOT, as you said, speak Swedish. Though, a little later on, he did attempted to with the help of the hosts. LOL! I forgotten what that show was called. But it was once here and it was very enjoyable. Some of the best moments from what I can remember was after Robert and the hosts been to dinner, he was driving them around town in their car and seemingly kept making wrong turns...
Gabreya 4 months ago

@1993MovieMan ...Also

Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Say, in that same scene in the remake where Kris dreams about Freddy in class, when he says,"You really shouldn't fall alseep in class?", he sounded strangely normal and montone, and didn't sound as monstrous as he was the rest of the movie. I mean, it was deep but it wasn't supernatural-like and demonic.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya They probably weren`t using as much Mechanical Modulation when we hear Freddy speak for The First Time in Kris` Dream ! Jackie stated Modulation was used to make him sound " less Rorschach " and " more Freddy " ( that is , NOT An Exact Mimic of Robert Englund`s Performance but with That Deep , Demonic Midwestern Accent Englund gave The Character albeit Scratchier and More Tortured ) !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Agreed. You're right. I think they did use the Mechanical Modulation when they were working on his voice. You're absolutely right. I read that they didn't want him to sound like his last role, Rorscach, and they want him as Freddy to sound otherworldly and threatening. Plus, as you mentioned, they didn't want to mimic Robert's portrayal and decided to try something different.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@Gabreya An In-Story Explanation might be Freddy was deliberately trying to sound like his " Psychopath`s Approximation of Normal " in order to give Kris A False Sense of Security ( this is backed up by The Fact he was quietly scrawling on The Chalkboard with his Claws at The Same Time ) ! Needless to say , it didn`t exactly work as Freddy planned as The Monotone unnerved Kris even more !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Definetly. And I think that goes along the notion that Freddy loves to play or "have some fun" with his victims before he kills them. So, from what you said, him using a montone voice was perhaps part of his playing with toward Kris here in this scene. Also, when he says, "You have nothing to worry about. This won't hurt one...little...BIT.", his voice sounds like it's going from kinda normal and monotone to deep and monstrously angry.
Gabreya 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan I could be wrong but I think at that moment, Freddy didn't look as if he was going to kill her right then. He seemed to have wanted to simply frighten her. Which might explain why he said to her to not worry while he briefly cut off a few strands of her hair. But much later at home, after Kris's mother went to work to where she was slowing finding out about what was going on, what really happened to Dean, and Jessie's input into this, Freddy finally made his move and killed her.
Gabreya 4 months ago
Old freddy, new Freddy, I liked them both. My only compliant from the remake is the writers didn't use the scene from the original when freddy came out of the alleyway & both of his arms were stretched out a good 10" each. That scene was CLASSIC in the first one. They could've done SO MUCH with that one scene. It was incredible.

Antichrist2000 10 months ago
@Antichrist2000
SlasherIncorporated 7 months ago 2
@SlasherIncorporatedI wouldn't have complained actually because A) I am not a fan and B) if he played Freddy well then there would be no reason to complain.
And yes Freddy was a burn "victim" but he also was a demon so of course he didn't look like he had just crawled off the slab and put on a glove and hat.
Don’t get me wrong I really like Jackie
But anyway, what's done is done and if people don't like it they can just watch the old movies.
Antichrist2000 7 months ago
@Antichrist2000
SlasherIncorporated 7 months ago
I dont understand why people are taking this so personally. Jackie was offered the role of a lifetime, who wouldnt accept being asked to play freddy krueger? Rob englund portrayed him for 20 years, and did a fantastic job doing so, but jackie made the character his own and did amazingly too. As foe those complaining about the lack of humor, first off that's the writer's fault, and second they did that on purpose to make it darker. There is still a few instances of comic relief. Its hard to comp
TrailofJoker08 11 months ago 35
@TrailofJoker08
Jackie didn't do amazing.
He did well, but not amazing.
It's not his fault, either, you just can't replace an actor of twenty years and expect it to still work.
I applaud him for doing it differently, even if it didn't go well.
It would have been worse if he tried to be like Robert Englund.

@TrailofJoker08 It wasnt the lack of humor but his personality over all, when you remake something your expecting simular results and this freddy just well he was too dark to seem to ejoy his job. his evil was too sincere. Old freddy wasnt humorous but he gave off an air of "i'm going to get you and theres nothin you can do about it" its not that he was funny but he was having fun. new freddy is just angry cause hes dead and wants revenge. and his voice doesnt help either
whatgari 4 months ago
@whatgari Well , that`s your problem . Jackie`s Freddy was closer to The Original Intention for The Character : A Cold-Blooded , Tortured Revenge Killer and Child Molester ! Face it , A Dude who was burned alive would not be A Wisecracking Jokester , he would be Ice-Cold( in Personality , not Body Heat ) and Pissed-Off !
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@1993MovieMan Hold up did you forget that writers and directors are behind a movies intention? So if freddy wasnt meant to be that way, than dirctors and writers would of stepped in during the making of the film. besides how do you know what a cold-blooded toretured molester would behave like? For one is a child molester even cold blooded? plus the way he died he was running and crying like a little baby. Although freddy's story made sense, how do you molest a child with claws?
whatgari 4 months ago
1993MovieMan 4 months ago
@whatgari Also , Three Things :

I didnt like the new film but thought he was great,
lycrahoofie 1 year ago
The new film is impressive as far as special effects bit they didn't do an impressive job on the make up for Freddy. It looks totally different than the Freddy that Robert created

This new Freddy has Rorschach's voice, so he's better.

@hafsah124 You're saying Jackie's portrayal of Freddy is better than Robert's portrayal?

I miss Robert.

This guy is class and I respect him as an amazing actor. But, the new Nightmare was shit and Michael Bay needs to get attacked by a shark.

Anybody else notice BOTH Robert AND Jackie have compared Horror Films to Campfire Stories ?!?!? It`s creepy how similar they think !
1993MovieMan 1 year ago
awesome interview, i loved jackie as freddy, i dont think there could have been anybody else who could have pulled it of like jackie .... other than robert of course !
the1mightygod 1 year ago
For the shoes he had to fill, I think that Jackie did a good job. He portrayed him a lot darker and he actually kind of scared me a bit (i saw it at the drive inns.) Robert is the best Freddy, yes, but Jackie certainly wasn't terrible. :)

Rorschach Kruger, himself.

nice guy, but no one can replace robert englund as freddy.
im sorry but its true(for me at least).

at first i thought no body else in the world could play freddy but robert but i think jackie did a great job
crossbow350 1 year ago 5
To me there is only one Freddy Krueger and that is of Robert Englund. New freddy was just okay.... nothing special and no sense of humour at all. Still nice to have new films released all the same, just wish Robert wud have taken the job!

Anybody who thinks Jackie Earle Haley was bad as Freddy needs to have a steel rod jammed up their ass.
Yes, he wasn't better than Robert, but he still did a hell of a job.

@JMoney002 I agree with you there, you're the only person so far who has'nt acted like a dick with these comments. :)
GeorgiaLouise2010 1 year ago
@JMoney002 I enjoed it plenty. I think of it as a new freddy for a new set of generations to come. Lets ask our kids who's better when they see both actors in action.
GlowingSkull27 1 year ago
@JMoney002 Damn straight! His Freddy may not be as good as Robert's Freddy, but he nailed it to the tee.

Agreed. The new freddy sucks!
SaucyMonkey4eva 1 year ago
@SaucyMonkey4eva That is pathetic. They BOTH did an amazing job. Theres no need to detest Jackie, if you want to take you're anger out on someone, take it out on Robert, because HE refused to keep that role. Jackie, was offered it, and he accepted. So SHUT THE FUCK UP and learn what is actually going on here, because Jackie was doing his job and Robert was'nt doing his. LEGIT.
GeorgiaLouise2010 1 year ago
@GeorgiaLouise2010 Robert was never offered the role as Freddy in the remake. There are several videos on here, where he says he was never offered to take up the Freddy character again. On the flip side, Jackie did the best he could, he was no Robert. But the same would be said about anyone who plays Freddy after Robert. Robert does not deserve to be blamed for anything, all the blame goes to Michael Bay.
coolins112 1 year ago
@GeorgiaLouise2010 Actually they never did talk to Robert. They SAID they did, but they really didn't.
