I'm not putting down the kids today but they have everything at a click of a button. They don't have to wait or anticipate for shows or songs to come out. We only had 6 channels & not a ton of kids programs so it was great waiting for your favorite show to come on & everyone your age watching the same thing. Now there are so many options kids don't value it.
The complete and total awesomeness of this clip cannot be understated. This is perfect in so many ways. Thank you for putting this up. Kapt. Kool & The Kongs need to reunite. They blow Kings of Leon away!!!
THANK YOU so much for posting this. I taped Names on a cassette from the TV when it first aired and it got lost over the years. I have been searching for this clip for over 20 years, u have no idea how grateful I am to have heard, let alone, see it again,
The girl on the keys (piano) sang a song that i've been trying to remember since i was maybe 8....does anybody know where i could hear more of their songs. I only remember the first few lines...."the first time I saw you I couldn't believe my eyes, all i could do was stop and stare, I was hypnotized"! Please say the rings a bell for someone. HELP!

I love Kaptain Kool and the Kongs! I just got the 2nd season of the Krofft Supershow and I wish I had the first, that was my favorite. I lived for Saturday mornings when this would come on. Michael Lembeck looked hot w/ that long hair.
@dajonick I found it on IOffer.com. It's not the complete season, the eps are out of sequence, and a couple of Bigfoot & Wildboy eps are missing their 1st or second parts. Cox Cable in So. Cal. was running them for awhile, and these were recorded from that.
This show was an odd clash of genres, kinda typical of the Seventies, when TV was actually a lot more experimental than we give credit for. The Kongs started out as a glam pastiche filtered through the Kroffs' family-friendly sensibility, then got toned down further and further.
But don't forget that KISS and Alice Cooper were glam too, and they were booked for prime-time appearances. Jarring, ironic gigs that fit right into the decade's eclectic tastes.
Yeah I remember this show and others like it way back when i was a kid. At the time I thought it was just the style and it was. But didn't think it was experimental but you're right. I miss those days :(
Nothing on tv today, movies are crap, so is music (can it still be called music?) and society isn't groovy anymore. I wanna go back to the 70's!!!! 21st Century sucks.
@Warhawkwv Yes I know EXACTLY how you feel...but at least i`m GRATEFUL that I grew up around the time that I did and was able to experience those amazing years of music, TV and pop culture....kids today have no idea what they missed despite all this technology....sadly.....
The Supershow debuted as a 90 minute show in September '76 with Kaptain Kool, Flatbush, Turkey, Superchick & Nashville. Three months or so later, the show was cut to 60 minutes and Flatbush vanished without explanation. This clip is from January '77, right after he exited the band. Initially the makeup & costumes were very flamboyant (Flatbush wore his signature pimp hat!) but they began toning it down - the following season, the guys didn't wear makeup or glitter. Maybe that's why he left?
i have not seen this since 1976.
thanks so much for the post.

Wow, the guitarist and drummer were actual musicians. I was pleased to see that.

Kind of unfortunate alliteration in their choice of band name. The KKK's?

Bert Sommers (Flatbush) was a drug addict. His addiction eventually killed him.

This song kinda reminds me of "crazy horses" by the Osmonds. I used to watch the first season of Krofft supershow in early 77 when I was 4.

@whitewitchoz This song was also written by the Osmonds.

To HardyGirl66,
Where did you get the show? I've been looking and haven't found it anywhere?
dajonick 1 year ago
I dissagree! For the time this was pretty edgy! and the world was well aware of the camp level here,
For a made up fake band this was WAY better than the archies or the monkees!

@BBVHFan I talked to Mickey McNeel (Turkey) recently. He said Burt Sommer (Flatbush) left, to resume his professional singing career.

Hey! Where's Flatbush? He had more talent than the rest put together.
Actually, I know what happened. He was kicked off after the first season. You bastards!
Quality video though.
Thank you BBVHFan.
