Your face it dances and it haunts me Your laughter's still ringing in my ears I still find pieces of your presence here Even after all these years But I don't want you thinking I don't get asked to dinner 'Cause I'm here to say that I sometimes do Even though I may soon feel the touch of love I just don't think I'll ever get over you If I lived till I was 102 I just don't think I'll ever get over you
I drink good coffee every morning Comes from a place that's far away And when I'm done I feel like talking Without you here there is less to say I don't want you thinking I'm unhappy What is closer to the truth That if I lived till I was 102 I just don't think I'll ever get over you I'm no longer moved to drink strong whisky 'Cause I shook the hand of time and I knew That if I lived till I could no longer climb my stairs I just don't think I'll ever get over you
Just for the people who think he is playing a 6 string and is creating an illusion.. He is playing a 12 string.. Look at the bridge pins.. And the tuning keys.. There are 12 haha

The truth be said, it almost made it, near the end, I expected a high-end jam like Ravi Shankar would have made it, but it simply never arrived, as expected. With that said, I look forward to seeing this song reach its true potential.
This song is one of the reasons I went to see him this year at World Cafe in Philly... Let me tell ya something, this dude is AWESOME in concert! Believe it... this is one of his best renditions of this classic!
I forgot about that ~ or when he told the loud table at the back of the house, "Try whispering in her ear, instead of ruining my effing concert!" A witty man, indeed.
Just saw him last night in Grand Rapids, MI. This tune stopped the house. He was funny and personable, and it was a powerful perfomance. He's a very, very gifted man. Thanks so much for sharing with us, Colin!
THAT Show was AMAZING!! And you are so right...funny, personable..and so much more. And the stories he told will forever bring a smile to my face. "I want to be your foreplay tonight.." still cracks me up!!
i love this song so much :). for those of you who asked.. he's definitely playing a 12 string guitar here. i play it on a regular six string guitar, with it tuned to DADGAD. sounds lovely and relaxing to play :) would strum this for hours.
dude powerbookg its colin everytime is freaking different because he is a genius and he doesnt need a set structure to be able to sing to the person he loves. it is more meaningful
Dude.... chill out. He was just saying he disliked the pauses in this version. I think this one is on the Transendental Highway CD. Anyway, this song comes up at the very end. I used to play the CD when I jogged, and it was always such a great song to cool down with. By the way, I get to see him play next week. Lucky me.
Geez. I really don't remember. I think it was a 6 on this song. However, if you are looking for the tuning, check the first comments that were made on this video.
@nodbot If you pay attention to the base of the guitar where the strings attach(pegs), theres 12, so a 12 string. Also, if you play guitar, you can hear the difference.
@HiImCaysE When I saw him at the Soiled Dove Underground in Denver a few years ago, he was playing a 6 string and played this song so wonderfully. I even got to meet him after the show and he autographed a c/d 4 me and let my friend take a pic of he and I. I'm still stoked about that one!
He was "Ready to settle down" and then taken from those who loved him by a suspicious cause of death just weeks later. I'm grateful he was in my life and we played awesome music together!
i have been listening to this song lately, imagining it from the perspective of a man who has died. perhaps he is singing to the love of his life. anyway, it's the song i would have playing at my funeral (to my wife). colin hay is amazing.
Wow! this song is amazing, straight from the heart, i wish artists did this more often! when i first heard this song i instantly thought wow this guy knows how I felt. when he says "i don't want you thinking I'm unhappy" thats so true, you don't want their sympathy on you but you're so lonely and still in love with them...I wish i could meet him to tell him this is the most honest song iv ever heard!
It hurt quite a lot for quite a while but I did eventually get over it and moved on with my life. I certainly won't be wasting any more breath feeling sorry for myself over what might have been. Life's too short and filled with too much beauty for that.
hey all you people out there i also know the feeling, i was crazy about this girl and she never paid any attention, she even kind of played with my feelings, it was awful, BUT a few months later a met this other girl who brought me back and put me up to the clouds even higher than the girl before, we are together now and it feels great so, don't lose hope after all, you'll find the right one

djtool: Hang in there, man. I wish I could tell you it will get better, but you know, sometimes it just doesn't. And even if you meet someone else, it will never be the same. Sorry.
Same here, the girl I've liked for two years, I had to force myself to say good-bye. This song brings me back to when I was happier, then when the song ends, it reminds me of how of me and her deff. are..It hurts..
Wow! Colin HAy is fucking AMazing!! I haven't heard a song this honest in a LONG time. This song is one of those that makes you wish you had a freshly broken heart to savor it with. ---Oh, what sweet, sweet, bitter-sweetness!
benklan: Woops, my previous post was the tuning for the studio recording of this song. The live version here is one whole step up. So, from bass to treble it's EADGDD. Hope this helps anyone who loves this song as much as I do.
@jjp009 Actually, I think it is dADGDD. That way it has an even more open and rich sound. The thing that gives it away is that he appears to be fretting the 6th string on the 5th fret on the words "I drink good". So the chords are:
not really, technically this isn't a video file per se. It's a flash video which I don't think can be exported. If you could get a program of some sort that records anything being played on your sound card, you might be able to record it to a wav file (thought the quality sorta sucks).
You can see there is a little blur to the left in the beginning so I had to zoom in a little. (A girl sitting next to me moved in front of the camera.) Some where in the beginning and at the end of the song you can hear beer bottles being knocked over. (This was the last song of the night.) Enjoy.
