  • I'll stick with my Prius, thank you.

  • @Organgrinder1010 Wise choice.

  • Of course I have to try and deal as much as I can when I sign on that dotted line to get that price down hopefully lol lol. But I'm hooked, end of story. Bright red with black trim, and red/black interior. Oh, and surround sound package! Lol

  • Yes, thanks. Looking forward to getting it! The shifting is fine for me, and you can get even better results using the paddle shifters (my MR2 has them). My Smart after all options is retailing at a little over 19K, but that's really loaded (heated seats, touch navigation, LED running lamps, the list goes on and on), and again it's a LOT of fun :). As an only primary car? No. As a daily commuter? Sure! :) :) :)

  • I have three vehicles now; a 4-door GMC Sierra truck, a 2-seater 2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder, and a Lincoln Town Car. I will be trading in my Lincoln Town Car for a 2012 Smart Fortwo Passion. I don't mind the two seat limitation (hence my Spyder), and I find that I only need the four doors on occasion. For that I have the truck (which is actually very nice and more like a car inside). I test drove the Smart and fell in love with it. It's one of those things that you either love or hate basically. An

  • @JimAndMike4Ever It is fun and I am sure you will love it. I have mentioned some of the limitations but if you can work around those, it's good to go. I do not know if I mentioned it, but the A/C was really strained here in the DC area. It can get quite hot & humid here. The A/C did okay, but not great. Shifting is a bit strange, too. I would love to try out the all-electric version. It probably does not need to shift and is really smooth.

  • I most likely will get one for my 17 or 18th birthday!

  • @freshwiillie5805 They are fun but you might find that two-person limitation hard to deal with. There are other vehicles such as the Yaris that seat 4 and cost about the same. It is a conversation piece, though. I drove it out to the mountains in Virginia and got lots of people looking at it when I stopped at the gas station. It is more of an "urban" car and when you are way out in the country, people don't usually need something that small, so it is kind of a novelty.

  • is this guy retarded? he doesn't know which is gas and which is the brake? can't drive for shit....& refers to himself in third person...."Tim is nervous"...they should call this the Dumb car...

  • @Justin52185 AMEN!

what the fuck! annoying as shit, they cant drive for shit anyways and hes doing a review, "Y soo buuumpy?" Shut the fuck up

  • I am sure you will have a great time with it! Keep in mind, it's pretty small and other drivers may not see you as readily. If you can get the DRL's running (Daytime Running Lights - headlights on during the day), I'd recommend it. There may be setting for that. I don't think mine were on.

  • :) im getting a blue one for my 16th birthday:))))

  • So, just checking, but how good is your Mandarin?

  • Terrible Voice - Driver

  • The smart has electronic brake force distribution, so you can stop quicker.

  • You forgot which is gas which is brakes? nice one man, i got no comment for that one^^ but i like the smart, so its all good

  • That's good news. I recall there was no cruise-control on my rental nor did it get great gas mileage (on premium no less). Frankly, I think it's a bit pricey by the time you get it decked out. And, I have not heard anything about improving the transmission shifting which is far from smooth, even after I got the hang of it. If it were $7,500 instead of $15,000, I'd buy one. But, a Honda Fit gives you 4 seats and is more practical for a comparable price. BTW, the A/C was stressed in DC.

  • @cggage

The reason its quite expensive is because it is manufactured by Mercedes.

I own a Black & Silver Passion CDi and the cost of main dealer parts is not to bad considering they are sold from a Mercedes dealership.

The car is beautifully made and really is reflected in its initial cost.

Mercedes have not cut any corners in build quality inside or out and really they could easily put the 3 pointed star on the bonnet and make it part of the Mercedes range.

    I love mine to bits.

  • @llandudnoboy - Well, I agree. I really liked the models I have rented from my local dealer. The only problems I have are with the transmission and the air conditioning. The transmission can be made to shift relatively smoothly with practice but it is not ideal. No doubt, the electric model will resolve some of that problem. The air conditioner was just "okay" here in DC's very, very hot and humid summers. Glad to hear you like yours! I'd love to have one!

  • @cggage

    Thanks for the replie

With a bit of experience the transmission can be very smooth without any jerkiness that the majority of drivers appear to have

I think it all part of the Smartie experience having a fully electronic gearbox that is tempremental.

It works well enough and is fun to use on a daily basis.

I waited 10 yrs for Mercedes to introduce the diesel into the Uk in right hand drive and i saved hard to buy Charlie (thats my Smarts name).

    I love him to bits

  • The 2011 model year will have 4 more airbags (8 total), cruise control, armrests, a redesigned dash (gets rid of the pebbled plastic in trade for high quality fabric), higher fuel econ, 8 speaker surround sound, lower valences painted to match, 1 hand tailgate operation (instead of those 2 buttons), ambient lighting, tailgate lighting, lower emissions, a custom color program, a custom paint program....much MUCH more!

Penske (smartUSA) has a 4 door to be released late in 2011 also.

  • one thing all the personal test drive videos have in common are... BRAKES!!! WTF is it with the brakes? are they 100% manual because of the weight of the car? are they super cheap? ....

  • @EastBayFM Hard to say. I don't know if they are power-assisted. I think they are disk brakes all around, though (that could be looked up). But, the brakes are sensitive perhaps due to the car being so lightweight and/or they might be just overly power-assisted. One really odd thing - the brake pedal is hinged at the bottom rather than hanging down from the top. It is a little odd feeling but you get used to it. The downside: the automatic (not smooth) and only two seats.

  • @EastBayFM The brakes are pretty much 100% digital. The car has 2 front disks and 2 rear drums. The brakes are so touchy because the stock pedal is a tad hard and the brakes have a lot of power...And while a lot of brake power is a good thing, the car weighs very little so you'll feel that brake power..

  • omg i love it i gettin one one my 16th birthday

  • @nasiastanley - Congratulations on your 16th! I would suggest having your parents rent one for a weekend and then have you test drive it in a parking lot or some "unofficial" road. Most rental agencies do not rent to people under 21 or 25 (can't recall). But, at any rate, the idea is to get a feel for the car. Remember, it holds only two people. It is rate well for safety but it is small and there is a lot to be said for mass. Explain to your physics teacher my concern & ask for a demo!

  • Thanks for posting this- this is exactly what I needed to see! We're shopping around for a smart car and it really helps to see it in action. Thanks again!

  • @wishingbee - You are welcome! I am surprised at the number of hits on the video! I posted it for my 9 year old god-daughter up in Canada, as she is a big fan.

I have been sitting on the fence about buying one. There is an all-electric and a 4 passenger coming down the road. ...

  • @wishingbee ... Probably, what is more practical is something like a Honda Fit with 4 seats. BTW, my primary car is a Cadillac - quite a transition. But, for running to/from work (12 miles), and buzzing around, I have to admit, I had a lot a fun with the Smart Car. Once you get used to the shifting, you can get it to be pretty smooth. Only potholes are troubling. ...

  • @wishingbee--- ... Otherwise, I am impressed with the fit/finish and accessories. I never felt I was in a micro-car. And, for the price, it probably is "a deal." Good luck and let me know what you decide.

  • about how much does one of these costs im planning on saving up for one

  • Trying to reply, but keep getting an error.

  • @sanitariumprod23 - They run about USD 11,900 for the base model with the jazzed up Pure Passion" model running about USD 13,000, which probably is the better deal. You can even get heated seats with it. I was surprised.

  • Part 2 - All told, not bad. But, I would recommend renting one for a weekend. The shifting takes some getting used to. The ride is stiff, but acceptable. The real limitation is the 2 seats. My primary car is a Cadillac Deville so the ride in this is really rough in comparison. But, if one lived in a dense city, this would be a good bet, I think.
