  • @WhoIsAisha do u still have it

  • i love this, im african american have anorexia and bulimia since high school and never found anyone of my race with this problem too. so nice to know im no longer alone on this!! thank you :)

  • Very Very Creative.

  • this took great strength..thankyou

  • thank you for sharing your story, i like the fact that you're showing it isn't just a cultural thing. i may not be black but i have girlfriends who are and some of them think it's a white girl disorder. it's not. it's a disorder period, ana doesn't discriminate, she's all ages, races, sizes and sexes. thank you for sharing your story, and you look great. don't ever let anyone tell you differently!

  • really well done!

  • I feel so lucky to have found this video. I'm a black girl who's struggled w/ my body image despite being a size 4 for all my life (at my highest/"normal" weight) , and have dealt with anorexia and bulimia for the past 3 years. I've been feeling really alone lately and though I hate that all of you had to go through this, it's good that we do have like minded people we can talk to. Message me ANY time and thank you 160days2Lose2 for posting this

  • So excellently written. Definitely will be looking for part 2.

  • Amazing story. I was a size 1, then I went from that to 5. From 5 to 7. I lost a few pounds recently but my battle with Ana is difficult. My parents say black girls don't get eating disorders but they're wrong

  • its been exactly a year for me now. went from a size 13/14 now down to a 3/5. i'm a black girl 2 and was not born thin like most so i know how u feel. i'm proud of you for getting better because anorexia (mixed with bulimia) really does suck. what i think would help you is keeping a journal of positive things inside that you can open and look at when the anorexic thoughts start coming back. don't think me a hipocrit 4 giving you advice i refuse to take but if u want to stay healthy it works :)

  • wow, your story is amazing thus far. I'm going to part two now. You could write a book, I would encourage you, if you haven't already, to find a way to share this beyond youtube. I know it would encourage many!

  • wow do it gurlllllll

  • This is amazing! I'd say one of the best ED story videos on youtube - this is so much more meaningful than a bunch of pictures of emaciated girls.

  • I just came across your vid and unfortunatly it was good news for me because being African American myself, the popular opinion is that it's a white girls disease and I went to prove that wrong...among other reasons. She's definitely calling me. (Ana) It started with me being in a wedding and being truly disgusted at what I saw (I'm a size 16) so I'm trying to do it the right way but it's hard to keep ignoring Ana, I need some control in my life and I think food is totally overrated anyway.

  • I love this truly the story of High school for me . but with no one telling me what to do but the feeling was the same

  • Wow, Ana was very sneaky.

  • this is so sad! really happy you left that part of your life behind. very caring of you to share

  • I loved this.

  • Wow

  • :O

  • just so powerful thats all i can say

  • Powerful. Thanks for sharing. It's very brave of you. Now on to part 2...

  • Wow I can relate to this soooooo much!!!

  • Wow!

  • wow... just wow ...I can't wait for part two. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me!

  • @kylanol Part Two is posted as a video response. I did both of these videos last year. I put in on my "front page" because February is Eating Disorders Awareness Month. Hopefully this will encourage others to talk about this issue instead of sweeping it under the rug.

  • U r a very well spoken woman! R u from bmore too?

  • @nayamama I'm from Detroit!

  • It's not too often that we get to view anorexia from a black girl's perspective - and your writing is awesome! On to part 2!!!

  • im so glad that u are not ashamed to share this story...it can help out so many girls who struggle with self esteem issues...im off to part two

  • I admire ur video.... the media shows this image of being almost bones (which in most cases r photo shop) and girls sinks into this wanting it so bad i applaude u for changing ur life YOU R BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • very artistic. beautifully written.

  • Wow! Thank you so much for this! I am working on my Masters in school counseling and I think many girls at the middle and high school age can relate to your story.

  • What a awesome story....and well performed and written. You really know hoe to

  • Thank you for posting this I'm relieved to know I'm not alone. This disease is stereotype as a middle class white girls disease (no offense to anyone) and that is just not true. It made me feel even more alone if that makes sense. Anyway keep doing what you do. ;)

  • Can I just say I loved this vid. It was not what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised.

  • Char,

So many people feel that Anorexia is a disease that is only in the Caucasian community. I'm so glad that you have shined a spotlight on this disorder, and how it can affect not just one culture but many cultures. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am so proud of you!!!!

P.S. Can't wait until August 7th. You know that my eyes will be glued to the tube waiting for a new vid!!!! :)

  • I loooooove you writing...very creative...I am waiting for the continuation.

  • @Averil07111 Thanks! Part 2 is now posted!

  • I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for part 2! Thanks for sharing with us.

    xoxo

    Namaste,

    The L.

  • Great video and I can't wait for part two.

  • I can't wait to see part two :) I loved the typing throughout the video. And it also shows how young teenagers can be very impressionable. They are willing to go to any lengths to be like everyone else (which is SOOO boring). The media want us to believe that if we're not skinny with straight hair then something is wrong. I know this will help a lot of women or at least get them to thinking.

  • WOW all I can say......Great video!! glad your making positive ones un-like others lol...can't wait for part 2!!! =)

  • Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! It took a loooooong time for me to make this video. I kept struggling with how to tell my story, but I think this was the best way. I'm glad it was well received. Part 2 will be uploaded tonight.

    -Charnika

  • Ohmygosh, I loved it! You're a great story teller and I think many people can benefit from this. Can't wait for part two. :)

  • Love the concept. Thanks for sharing your story.

  • Very very awesome vid! Great message you're getting out there. Keep making vids! Very powerful.

  • Omg.. That was just.. AWESOME. wow.. Cant wait for part 2. Thanks for sharing your story

  • Wow..... this was deeeeeeeep!!! awaiting on part 2!!!!

  • This is so real! cant wait for part 2

  • Thank you for sharing this. I previously worked with people who struggled with eating disorder, and this video will be a voice to people who are searching for help. Thanks again.

  • WOW...this was AMAZING!!! Char I am soooo proud of you for sharing this!!!

  • Wow, this is absolutely incredible. I bless God for you, the lives that you will touch with your story will surely bring God glory. Be Blessed.

  • This cideo was great. So many people think that eating disorders dont exist in our community. If you made this video just 2 years ago my step cousin would benefit. After her mther daid she was getting fat. She stopped eating....COMPLETELY and she was only 12 year old. I wish people would see the truth.

  • Girl I absolutely LOVED this video.....eating disorders are not talked about in the African American community and it really should be! We have got to break those cycles. I commend you on this and I thank you for sharing! I fav'd this!
