  • omg thank u so much... i must say i have a similar issue where colours just dnt show on my eyes. i will definitely get bases asap

  • i wanna say thank you because i've always been kind of scared to use foundation. i've seen so many girls look fake when they wear it... i think im goin to try the foundation and see what it looks like.

  • I just love the back to basics videos, their awesome. Thanks for sharing Jackie!!!!

  • sweet gurl

  • Finally, someone my skin color who looks absolutely gorgeous (not clownish) using intense colors!! You're a true inspiration....thank you sooooo much!!

  • Thank you so much for the makeup basics tutorials. You are a good teacher! That being said, did you have to go to a cosmetology school or were you able to take courses geared only towards makeup application? I've been exhaustively looking for makeup application courses and only see cosmetology classes focusing only on hair while leaving makeup classes as an afterthought!

  • you are very good, and honey dont apologize to these girls about black eyebrow pencils, it drives me crazy! your eyebrows should not have five hairs on your face and the next min you pop up with a drawn on black brow. keep up the work with you videos!

  • I went into a Mac store wanting to buy a primer for my eyes and the girl there said that my painterly pot " was the primer"? So now u say it isn't lol I'm lost in translation

  • Thanks so much, very helpful.

  • thank you so much for the tips very helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very detailed, you go straight to the point and you're very informative, I'm definately heading to mac and sephora for my unofficial first starter kit

  • OMG...THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH !!!!!

  • U SHOULD GIVE CLASSES!! UR EXPLANATION OF BASES AND PRIMERS WAS ON POINT. LOVED THE DEMONSTRATION!! THANX!

  • Im now starting off into makeup, and you are really the first makeup guru i have ever left a comment for. You are a wonderful inspiration. I honestly never thought i would find a guru that was so close to my skin color, and who understood that because we are of darker color, we need more pigmented shadows, and we need to use bases for our lids to make the color pop. Keep doing ya thang mama, your amazing.....seriously. You gave a dark skin girl hope lol.

  • @Roca516 thanks :)

  • VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU

  • Thank you so much for doing this video I love how you break things down and explain

  • OMG!!! Very awesome videos!!! Thanks for all the help, us newbies need it. I will definitely be using your tips.

  • aww thank you! that's awesome

  • I have the opportunity to order NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencils through international shipping. I have seen that you often use these pencils in different shades, so which colours (say 5 of them) would you suggest me to by to be able to do as many looks as posible? I would really appriciate your advice here!

  • Really I only use the black and the white ones, I buy like five of those at a time

  • Very helpful the base vs primer part was very helpful cause i'm new to makeup :-)

  • aww thanks, glad I can be of help

  • This was soooo helpful. Can't wait til you do the contouring video. I have been dying to learn how to do this correctly! And a part two would be helpful. I have trouble when using multiple eye shadows. Sometimes I don't which I should put where lol!

  • I know it is tricky sometimes, when it comes to applying eyeshadows I usually like to go from the lightest color to the darkest, starting on the inner corner of my eye all the way to the outter. and as for contouring, I don't have the right brush for that video yet, as soon as I'm able to get the brush I want I will make a vid for sure!

  • ahhh where have u been lol... ahh this is my 3rd video i watched of urs.. and soo soo soo helpful... cuz i have been really confused coming out in the make up world.. lol

its funny that u mentioned liquid eyeliner on the bottom will never do again my whole eye was black lmao...

    but thanks girly....

  • haha yea the liquid liner, had to learn the hard way too....

  • Hi, The video is very informative, My question is about the base, I use a primer, it most def makes the shadow last and does not crease, but sometimes lacks what I would call making the color pop! from what I took is you need several bases depending on your shadow, is there one apart from using white shadow that has the same efffect?

  • that's a very good question, there are definitely different bases that serve different purposes! Like Groundwork is great for neutral smokey eyes, but then I like using a black base sometimes to make the brighter colors pop, like teals, purples, any metallics, so you are abosulutely correct, every base color is suited appropriate for different looks, you just kind of have to play with them to see what bases compliment what eyeshadow colors. I hope I helped!

  • Great vid... Thanks

  • Thanks for sharing your tips

  • You mention using a concealer as a primer, but I have tried doing that for a week and I get creases! Am I doing something wrong?

  • are you using a creme concealer like MAC's StudioFinish, or a liquid like Select Cover Up? Also, be sure to put it on VERY lightly, that's why I said a little goes a long way. Let me know if that helps!

  • Thanks so much for your reply! I was using this Studio Stick concealer that I had lying around. I put it on lightly and tried putting it on a bit heavier and it didn't really work. Or maybe I'm just using the wrong type of concealer?

Also, your videos got me interested in using the paintpots as a base to my eyeshadow colors. Which ones would you recommend? I'm the same foundation color as you. I know I have so many questions, but I like your make-up vids. Your tutorials are VERY wearable :-)

  • you're very welcome, once again, the stick should be fine just use it very lightly. Groundwork is a great paintpot for our skin tones

  • I hate UDPP!!! dont believe the hype girls!

  • lol I like using my concealer it works for me so I have no intentions on switching!

  • haha I remember when i was first starting out with make up i was like .. so a base and primer are the same from what every one kept saying lol then i eventually found out the difference

  • yep, two diff things!

  • Great part 2!!! I need advice on how to choose the right shade of Drug Store Brand Foundation. I leave in a small city that does not have a MAC Store in our Mall and we have to travel 2 hours to get to a MAC Store! I am interested in the IMAN and REVLON Foundation, but do I use the inside of my wrist, back of my hand or my face to sample the colors? Please help!! Thank you for all of your Tuts and Vids!!!! :)

  • the best area to sample foundation swatches are on the neck believe it or not!

  • Hey girlie! The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is the BEST primer I've ever used. I'm also NW45. You have got to try to get some. It's wand is like a lip gloss wand. You just sweep a couple strokes on each lid and then blend it with your finger. I've found that with this particular primer, the color payoff is amazing. I have tried some other primers alone and they are not as good as Urban Decay. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Great vids!

  • Yes I've seen it tons of times lol the bottle is cute, perhaps I will try it, thanks for the recommendation!

  • Primer than Base got it, Lol!. 1 more question, How do determine what color base to use? would it be the closest or exact to the shadow color that you are using? if so then why do you use white sometimes? And where is the best place to purchase NYX(?) jumbo pencils???

ps Great info you really touched on a lot of topics. Much appreciated............. thank u.

  • the color of the base you're using really determines on what color eyeshadow you're using. I use white a lot because as known on the color scale it's a very bright color, so any color up against a white base is going to really pop. However, when you're using neutral colors, golds, tans, browns, etc, I'd use like a MAC paintpot, painterly, or like groundwork. you'll get it it's all just trial and error, do swatched on your hand and see what looks good on what. NYX can be purchased on ebay

  • Thanks!!!

  • you're welcome!

  • I feel U should've addressed the rest of the face, like blush and lip colors..... maybe for brown skin perhaps.

  • Sorry, I did talk about contouring and stuff but I had to cut it out it was WAY too long! I'm going to do a contouring vid by itself, I promise!!

  • good video girl! i wish you talked about lips a bit. i saw your other pink lip video and it was amazing, just struggling with other kinda lip liners for my/our skin tone....

  • GIRRRL when I made this video it was like 25 minutes long! I had to do so much editing! I think I will do a lip video like by itself or something because it's so specific

  • thanxx soo much :D

i mean since i'm all about eye makeup most of that was pretty much common since to me, but it was very necessary for you to break down the primer/base thing, cuz i didn't understand that, an im sure alot of people don, an most definitely thank you soo much for giving me the OK to use foundation as eye primer, which i do everytime, cuz you can use the cheepest kind there is, an if it's jus used as primer, it will last you FOREVER

  • Well that's good it sounds like you were already on the right track, I'm glad I helped you out! that's what I'm here for :)
