  • A The Byrds zenekart imádtuk Magyarországon is!:)))

    Feledhetetlen tagjai a "Nagy generáció"-nak!

    super**********

  • Gene, Gene, Gene, Gene. And Gene. Gene.

  • How pissed off does Gene look? He was such a legend

  • As I watch the Last Space Shuttle head to the ISS Rickenbacker 370, 12 string WoW :) QC

  • @slovakmath: Yeah, this would've considered 'pop,' though the Byrd's were considered folk-rock. But pop is such a broad term that it could include Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Herb Alpert, etc. @ ejectorerector: Gene ALWAYS seemed to look that way...but I don't see that as any different than the others!

  • in 1967 exist chorome keyer efect?

sorry my bad english... i`m from brazil

  • Why did this song just randomly pop into my head?

  • GREATEST band next to the Beatles.

  • @Beatleboy1968 excuse BUT THAT MUSIC AND OF THE LARGEST SINGER AND COMPOSER OF BRAZIL

    RAUL SEIXAS CHECKS /watch?v=mDWgkAo94eI&feature=related

  • If you notice, Roger is always using his Rickenbacker 370, 12 string in all the Byrds vids. You can get a certified signature edition Rick for about 9 gran...........yep, should of kept all that old rock memorabilia.

  • The Smothers Brothers were disrespectful clowns..but if it wasn't for them many great performances would not be on youtube today!!..Great Vid.

  • Raul seixas

  • 44 yrs ago? holy shit! btw he sings about beer in the morning...

  • Who else heard this. In the brilliant documentry "In the Shadow of the Moon"

  • Playback .. guess David was kicked here

  • My favorite song when I was a kid.

  • Raul Seixas SOS

  • was this considered "Pop music" back then or what genre?

  • @slovakmath

It was considered Pop Music all right, the term didn't have such negative connotations as now. Though I think many people would prefer "rock music" even then: pop music is and was a rather vague term, it can mean any genre that's popular...

  • Crosby on the cover of 5D (July '66) along with McGuinn. This lineup of the Byrds (including the previously departed Gene Clark who cowrote Eight Miles High but without McGuinn)) seems to be miming to the original album track. The 60's were strange times indeed

  • from the smothers bros. show right?

  • sounds a lot like a Dylan song. But the Byrds are awesome and I especially like this point in their career. Good to see Gene Clark back in the line-up, albeit briefly

  • Everybodys a cover band

  • why did gene look so pissed/bored?

  • THANXS 4 SHARING,THEY ROOOOOOCK

  • i always did like the more obscure songs from big groups

  • happy birthday david crosby

  • I thought Gram Parsons sang this song? I'm sure I've seen him singing it in another Byrds clip.

  • @matthk Gram did not join until just prior to Sweetheart of the Rodeo and this cut is from Younger than Yesterday, two records before Sweetheart, but there's a chance he might have done the song live with the band while touring or rehearsing, the song certainly suits his style.

  • @matthk There's footage of Gram lip synching it near the coliseum in Rome when the Byrds toured Europe in 68. McGuinn, Hillman, Kevin Kelley, and Doug Dillard are also in the clip.

  • who cares about whether thay lip synch? These guys and all the 60's bands rocked! These bands were the foundation of great sound and creative rock n roll!

    Aloha

  • @MrMakahalouie They still are my brother, & your right they fucking rocked. being a child of the turbulent 60ties. believe me if you remembered them you didn't live them

  • DRUGS

  • Good timing on Crosby's part (to leave the band). The is one that (to me) really muddies some of the truly great work these guys (and some of the best session players in town) did!

  • David Crosby was fired just a week before this Oct 22/67 TV appearance. He was replaced by Gene Clark who only lasted a couple of weeks himself. Gene was in bad shape at the time, not so much his drinking, but his confidence was shot. He was singing badly at the time and had to be let go. Michael Clarke was so disheartened he also left the band by mid November. He took a crappy job at a hotel in Hawaii. And... through all this they put out "The Notorious Byrd Brothers". one of their best albums.

  • @robbiecalifornia1951 ..MICHAEL CLARKE JOINED THE 'FLYING BURRITO BROS.' SOMETIME AFTER THIS.....

  • Raul Seixas, seu canalha!

  • i thought crosby was still in the band at this point?

  • Gene never received the FULL credit he had coming.

  • Bob Dylan answered very positively when asked about Gene's writing prowess. I don't recall exactly but Dylan said he wished he had written "Spanish Guitar among some others.

A Dylan cover band??? Bullshit. Dylan's music was begging for a fuller sound to be added to his wonderful masterful lyrics and poetry. Roger et al had the vision to make it happen successfully.

  • wow. hey, mister toolbag, no one asked you really.

  • @builttrainer you are my new hero!

  • While Jim Morrison played cards with his bandmembers in a suite on October 22, 1967, The Byrds were doing National TV! Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Mass.

  • Oh my! The great Gene Clark in his brief return to the band.

    AWESOME!

  • @gabrieldinelli Wow, hadn`t seen this one since its original tv airplay. Great to see again.

  • @gabrieldinelli excuseme but music is raul seixas from brazil the name S.O.S RAUL SEIXAS search

  • @ganhardinheirohoje Yes. I'm Brazilian and a big Seixas's fan. He borrowed from several artists, such as The Beatles, Dylan, Presley, and The Byrds. Mr. Spaceman was recorded in 1966, while S.O.S. was recorded in 1974, so it was Seixas who was influenced by The Byrds. It only adds to his character to borrow from such great sources. :)

  • @gabrieldinelli É cara, sou fã do Raul também mas te garanto que "emprestado" não é realmente a palavra certa ...

  • This song is included in the musical Return to the Forbidden Planet. It's a great show featuring a lot of the music of this time period!

  • 60's were good you think?

  • Yeah, crazy weird. I'm glad it's long gone now though.

  • I think Chris has really nice hair.

  • TEMA DE 1966

  • I had a roommate that was a huge Beatles and Byrds fan/ Grateful Dead fan. I remember hearing this song the first time and my jaw dropping and feeling so eophoric. Hey Mr. Speaceman come and take along, make me live forever or like a thousand years in a 27 year old body.!

  • why does Chris Hillman have an afro?

  • He has naturally curly hair. He said he used to straighten it to get the Beatles mop top look.

  • VERY good.

  • It's still Michael Clarke - he looks different with the 'tache.

  • I read the book Timeless Flight years ago. It sounded like Gene and Michael got a lot of abuse from Crosby. But yeah, Gene's writing is what saved the Byrds from being just a Dylan cover band. It's weird to see him in this video with Crosby's vocal track.

  • Gene Clark was certainly a great songwriter but The Byrds would have been far from being just a Dylan cover band during the '65-'68 period. Other than the 1st LP which has,I think, four Dylan tracks & three by Gene...the 2nd album and to a greater degree, the 3rd,

4th & 5th,contained a strong presence of originals by McGuinn,Crosby and even contributions by Hillman & Michael Clarke. Take a closer look at the writing credits on the albums at that time.

  • rolling stones was a cover band too. what does it matter?

  • Why does it matter? Well fair is fair. The Stones did quite a few covers, mainly on their first three albums...if that's what you're referring to. After that, their "cover" days were over, with an exception here & there...and they've released probably about 24 studio albums since then!

  • I read Timeless Flight too, interesting book. However, the band produced fine originals after Gene's departure...which shows that they weren't dependent on his writing to keep going. If you take a closer look,it's mainly the 1st album that they might be considered a Dylan cover band....other than Clark's contributions.

  • "You can't be a Byrd, Gene, if you can't fly..."

  • Gene had the gift, times two. Read the book "Mr. Tamborine Man" it is mindblowing for the fans who understand. I know I do, I think you guys will too.

  • Gene Clark was the best writer they ever had, he made from 66 to 74 some of the best solo albums of 70's, NO OTHER

  • Grrrreat.

Incredibly hip country rock with psychedelic overtones way ahead of the pack. Gene but no Cosby, hmmm...

  • After Crosby was fired, Gene Clark (who claimed to be over his fear of flying) came back for a few weeks. Of course, he wasn't over his fear and it got the best of him a few weeks after this appearance when he refused to fly from Minneapolis to New York... he left the band a second time.

  • Ironic how Gene Clark had a fear of flying while in a band called The Byrds.

  • sometimes i did wonder how did Gene ever do the traveling with The Byrds
