This video was very useful to me when I replaced the laser on my PS3. I unfortunately forgot to take out the Game that was in there. Luckily, it was just that the left arm had jumped a couple of teeth. That fixed, it started working like new. Thank you again for your informative video. Good work.

It jumped the track. Remove everything and take the screw off of the white round gear and remove the gear. It will jump back to the right position and then put back the white round gear and screw and put the drive back together.
i dont understand what you did :(( u insert the diskt in the first try but you ps3 doesn't start the game ( same as mine) so what do you did that is works at the second time??
I find your video funny in a "boy it this shit giving me a hard time" kind of way. Why do you call them smoke test? Is the DB drive supposed to catch fire?
@CoCoLo1199 I use "smoke test" because sometimes things go wrong (whether or not it's my fault is another video ;o) and the magic smoke is released from inside whatever I was working on.
Fuck, my discs keeps getting stuck.. The eject motor can't push them out, i hear it trying to push the disc out and then miserably fails...
The only way i've found to eject it is by doing this method (which i dont want to use often, as it may literally f*ck my PS3 up!) or by leaning my PS3 a bit for it to exit. The games work fine, i just have a hard time each time i want to remove a disc! Why does this happen and how can i fix it? Help please, this sucks.. :(
@slbdevil Sounds like something's not quite aligned right. For a quick rundown on what to check and how to align things, see my "PS3 revised emergency eject" video. For more details, I have other alignment and reassembly videos.
@Capoeiraagia A while after i wrote that comment my PS3 started working, i moved it a little bit and i think that did the trick. I didn't even have to open it. The mechanism was stuck. Good luck with yours man! :)
to watch how to get a stuck disc out without voiding the warranty go to my youtube channel, click on uploaded vids, and scroll down to the bottom. the video is titled "how to get stuck discs out of your ps3/ps3 fan test"
I put my game disc inside the ps3 but spin, then stopped spinning, and/or doesn't read and played. I don't know what to do. Can you explain it more clearly?
easier way: make sure ur ps3 is off then keep your finger held on the eject button then switch it on at the back with youre finger still on (or plug in ps3 if you have a slim) when it turns on let go of eject then when you hear the fan turn on keep tapping the eject button
At 3 min your BluRay got stuck. You skipped how you fixed this problem. I am having the same problem. How did you fix it. The white arms wont open to drop the mag disc down to clamp the disc.
@C33L0W I didn't know it back when I made this video, but that is caused by the plastic top of the drive not being aligned right. See my "optical drive top" video for how to fix this.
i striped my drive to replace the laser when i had a disc inserted, now its back together theres a white tag thatx stands upright stoping a disc going in. how can i reset it, ive got a late ps3 fat
@zimzum08lol At this point, I'd suggest buying the Slim too. I never had the YLOD problem, but from what I can gather, the fix is not only temporary, but the length of time it stays fixed depends on how much the console is used.
@zimzum08lol If nothing at all is happening, check the large data cable connecting the drive to the PS3 mainboard. If the drive runs like a disc is being inserted when you turn the system on, the disc sensor has a fault (the most common fault is the small wires break off inside the insulation, causing the sensor to no longer work).
Thanks for this junker15. Replaced my broken laser unit and after that the disc would not eject. With this video I found out that the small strips of metal were not on properly and this gives me back my working PS3. Thanks again.

@MrPlayahata123 I disagree about the quality of the PS3's optical drive. In my opinion, it's got the guts of an alcoholic. And coming from Sony, one of the inventors of the CD, is especially damning.
@bo7450 There's probably a different issue. Especially if nothing happens when you push the disc in about halfway. (It should take it even if the disc sensor is broken.)
@junker15 I took it apart again to make sure the drive didn't think there was a disc in it and the gears would spin fine when I pressed the switch but when I put it back together and slide a disc inside it doesn't do anything again.

ok if u need to get your disk out cos it has ylod, turn it off at the back hold down eject, turn it on whilst holding down eject and keep holding it, it will make a very loud noise for 1 minute max and ur disk wil come out :)
My ps3 won't eject cod and it doesn't show that there's even a game in the computer. It just does the beep like when nothings in there. Tried holding down the eject and press it about a million times, still nothing so I decided to open it up like a can of beans to get the game out. I've got a new ps3 coming but i'm still trying to fix the old one by watching a few youtube videos but nothing seems to be going to plan. Does anybody know what kind of problems I can be having with it?
@soraalam1 Looks like you have a disc sensor that's bad. This presents itself as the transport running immediately after the PS3 is turned on if there's no disc inserted. It should eventually stop running, then you can put a disc in (but you have to push it in halfway before it starts running again).
hey man i did what u said in the revised emergency eject, i did all right, but now the driver doesnt accept any disk, its like doesnt respond, what i can do?do i need to reset the driver so it can accept others cds?Tnks and advance.
@jadirgun If it doesn't work at all, check to see that the grey power cable on the left side of the drive is securely connected. I haven't run into these issues myself, so I'm guessing at this point.
I put in a disc that turned out to be unreadable :L also, my eject button is broken so i can just eject -_- .... will i have to do all thi to get it out? please answer, thanks.
@iiKYL3x Use my "revised emergency eject" video instead. This will go over how to get the disc out, how to reset the drive so a new disc can be accepted, and how to properly put the top of the drive back on so the discs won't jam.
if u go on the main screen and go over the game in the disc tray press triangle and it should come up somewhere EJECT and it should come out =D hope this helped u
This can probably be cured by seeing my "revised emergency eject" video (this is the fastest way). My "loader alignment" and "optical drive top" videos go into more detail.
first of all yours is broke mine works fine and you buy a ps3 and you dont have a monitor or tv and if you hate sony why do you buy somthing from sony
my ps3 wont take in disk nor take them out, i bought it from my friend and it had ylod, i fixed it and took it out when it was opened , now i can put in the disk right, i had to force it in , now it wont come out, any help
u have to aline it properly to the underside. unscrew the motor move it out the way. then push the black thing on the side down then reattach the motor and screw it together. probably doesnt make sence i know lol ill upload a video on how to do it in a few weeks
hey junker..my ps3 suddenly stop while playing. i ejected the cd game and put it in back. but then nothing is happening and the cd game is stuck inside the ps3. i tried to restart but the red light turn yellow and flashes red after that. i wanted to know what kind of problem it is before i send it to repair or do you think i can fix it myself? THANKS
That's the Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD). There are videos here on YouTube that show how to make repairs to the mainboard with a heat gun, but I suggest making sure you're confident you can do it before proceeding. It also requires a real heat gun (around $70) to work.
If Sony give you another year of warranty and you play your PS3 a lot, it's probably worth the $150 to do it. This assumes that my theory of the PS3 breaking the same way within a year is correct...
If your PS3 isn't in warranty anymore and you can disassemble it, my "PS3 loader alignment" video may be of help. It sounds like the mechanism thinks there's still a disc inside.
I fucking hate it when a client comes in with a PS3 for a laser cleaning. I grind my teeth as I accept the console. My wife laughs every time she sees a PS3 come in too because of that troublesome piece of shit optical drive. Grrrrr
For the main cover, you just take off one security T10 screw under the warranty sticker, then slide the faceplate down, then remove 7 #2 Philips screws from the top. (One is shorter than the rest - keep track of this one.) Then push a catch in right where you took the short screw out, and lift up towards the front.
For the drive, I just took the top metal cover off and put the drive back in so I could shoot the video.
Hey, I had a disk stuck in my drive, I took it out, then I found out those two stoppers at the front of the drive wont let disks in, then I put another disk in, and it wont eject it. PLEASE HELP!!!
Just writing to say thank you for the guide. My Blu Ray drive didn't work properly so I took it apart and cleaned the lens. I had trouble with the spring mechanisms after and it kept jamming. Your video saved my PS3! Keep up the good work! :)
If you are unable to eject the disc for any reason and you don't wish to open the PS3 yourself, it's stuck until a service center can open the PS3 and remove it. Sorry...
hey i had the same prob wit an old ps1 game..all i did was unfold a paper clip nd swipe it through the right side of the ps3 "mouth",were it takes in the disc, nd it felt like i unhooked sumthin nd then i hit eject nd it came out, so if u still havent fixed it try this...doin this could probly damage ur ps3 mine is fine but id say do this at ur own risk
Unfortunately, as I understand the Yellow Light of Death, the machine won't stay powered up long enough to enable you to eject the disc. And there doesn't appear to be any manual emergency eject on these slot-loading drives.
Without voiding the warranty, the disc is stuck until the machine can be revived. Sorry... :o(

hey junker..my ps3 suddenly stop while playing. i ejected the cd game and put it in back. but then nothing is happening and the cd game is stuck inside the ps3. i tried to restart but the red light turn yellow and flashes red after that. i wanted to know what kind of problem it is before i send it to repair or do you think i can fix it myself? THANKS
bluffster042 2 years ago
That's the Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD). There are videos here on YouTube that show how to make repairs to the mainboard with a heat gun, but I suggest making sure you're confident you can do it before proceeding. It also requires a real heat gun (around $70) to work.
junker15 2 years ago
If you need a $70 heat gun, then why not pay Sony $70 more to fix it and get a warranty?
choffy31 2 years ago
If Sony give you another year of warranty and you play your PS3 a lot, it's probably worth the $150 to do it. This assumes that my theory of the PS3 breaking the same way within a year is correct...

awesome

i am having trouble putting the disc in because it immediately stops it like somethings in the way.
sephiroth1671 2 years ago
If your PS3 isn't in warranty anymore and you can disassemble it, my "PS3 loader alignment" video may be of help. It sounds like the mechanism thinks there's still a disc inside.
junker15 2 years ago
I fucking hate it when a client comes in with a PS3 for a laser cleaning. I grind my teeth as I accept the console. My wife laughs every time she sees a PS3 come in too because of that troublesome piece of shit optical drive. Grrrrr
hydrolisk1792 2 years ago
hey sup helpful video but how do i take off the cover like that so i can do that like yur doing?
shadowboss675 2 years ago
For the main cover, you just take off one security T10 screw under the warranty sticker, then slide the faceplate down, then remove 7 #2 Philips screws from the top. (One is shorter than the rest - keep track of this one.) Then push a catch in right where you took the short screw out, and lift up towards the front.
For the drive, I just took the top metal cover off and put the drive back in so I could shoot the video.
junker15 2 years ago
Hey, I had a disk stuck in my drive, I took it out, then I found out those two stoppers at the front of the drive wont let disks in, then I put another disk in, and it wont eject it. PLEASE HELP!!!

Just writing to say thank you for the guide. My Blu Ray drive didn't work properly so I took it apart and cleaned the lens. I had trouble with the spring mechanisms after and it kept jamming. Your video saved my PS3! Keep up the good work! :)

my ps3 disk is stuck inside my ps3. it wont read or eject. forced eject, nothing... i dont want to open it.. any advice
Sprunk12 3 years ago
If you are unable to eject the disc for any reason and you don't wish to open the PS3 yourself, it's stuck until a service center can open the PS3 and remove it. Sorry...
junker15 3 years ago
ok thanks anyways. bugs the crap out of me its barly a year over old and its malfunctioning...
Sprunk12 3 years ago
hey i had the same prob wit an old ps1 game..all i did was unfold a paper clip nd swipe it through the right side of the ps3 "mouth",were it takes in the disc, nd it felt like i unhooked sumthin nd then i hit eject nd it came out, so if u still havent fixed it try this...doin this could probly damage ur ps3 mine is fine but id say do this at ur own risk

hey, i need to get my copy of GTA ouof my dead ps3, i got YLOD so i need help, how do i get it out without voiding my warranty?
NBAfan001 3 years ago
Unfortunately, as I understand the Yellow Light of Death, the machine won't stay powered up long enough to enable you to eject the disc. And there doesn't appear to be any manual emergency eject on these slot-loading drives.
Without voiding the warranty, the disc is stuck until the machine can be revived. Sorry... :o(

damn! thnx anyways
