Actually, it's pretty much in the middle. The left side of center maybe, but not nearly as far over as they teach in 4th grade.

I was taught that about .. 20% is "under" the sternum the other side of the heart being the stronger side used for pumping blood away from the heart to the rest of the body is to the left of the sternum about 3.5 inches accross from the other side for most people .

so ya putting your hands in the middles would cover part of your heart :)

You heart is actually in the middle. The left side is stronger than the right so it gives the illusion of it being off center.
