If you want to talk socialism, youi may have to dig deeper. America has a mixed economy. If we were a true capitalist scoeiety, economic Darwinism would have prevailed and the banks that failed would be devoured by those that will survive. Sure we would have endured an economic hardship but there would have been no intervention to stabilize markets.

2 things:

1:This was definitely a necessary follow up for Barbara West after the Biden interview to prove she was tough on both sides. However it was tougher than her 10/14 interview with John but still not quite as ridiculous as with Joe Biden.

2.This demonstrates the whole problem with John McCain's campaign. On every question instead of just talking about McCain/Palin administration positives he just talks about Obama negatives.. not gonna work

Questions for McCain couldn't possibly be as tough because McCain is not going around calling for Marxist/Socialist policies, Sarah Palin is not going around saying tha McCain will be tested and will not be apparent that he made the right decision, McCain gave one speech for ACORN about immigration but he didn't train ACORN's staff, wasn't their attorney, and didn't give them over $800,000.00. McCain & Palin are not perfect but Obama is a fraud and Biden doesn't really believe Obama is ready.

The questions were overall fair. I won't label them as tough but rather as direct. That being said only her final question was overtly biased and leading. The irony that Joe the Plumber would be better off under Obama's policy yet is still supporting McCain is laughable...what? This interview has to be staged. The answers to the questions came off too easily as if they were rehearsed. I also watched a show on msnbc that said, Barbara Wests husband is on of the media consultants for the McCain Campaign. So, thats where i think the questions she asked Biden came from.

I keep trying to understand why the left & right see things so polar opposite. Rehearsed & playful? I think McCain was surprised by her direct questions too & I think she laughed at the start because she was embarrassed about him bringing up the Biden interview in the way he did. She asked him about infighting, badly run campaign compared to Obama, Joe the Plumber is better off with Obama, & asked if we really need tax cuts for the rich. Those are tough questions no matter how they are posed.

As far as why this interview was different from Biden's is summed up in ChuckMartel's comment, I think. It was the difference in the attitudes of Biden and McCain that made the interviews seem so different!

Looks staged to me. No ideological questions about GOP policies of continuing to redistribute the wealth from working people to corporations. No left wing talking points presented to McCain to defend, while she deliberately used the most extreme right wing talking points in talking with Biden.

The reporter apparently can't separate her own ideological connections from ethical obligations to the profession.

They were mostly good questions for McCain, if a bit fawning, but it does nothing to defend West from accusations of bias in her Biden interview. The word choice says it all - McCain's questions are carefully worded and neutral, letting the answers shape the story. Biden's questions were full of loaded words like "phony", "failure", and "blunder", and she even compared Obama to Karl Marx in one question. That's not hard-hitting journalism, it's an interviewer pushing an agenda.

It is sad to see that after her interview with Biden that the Obama campaign is freezing her station out from further contact simply because Biden wasn't lobbed "softball" questions. His condescending tone toward the middle of the interview smacks of sexism as he questions who wrote her questions. Let's be real here.

She never asked McCain if something he'd said was a "blunder", she didn't make an argumentative question (like the Marx comparison), and she didn't pass judgment on his policies in a question (like when she asks Biden if he's forewarning that the US's days as a superpower are over). Instead she conducted a more neutral interview with McCain, letting him answer questions rather than accusations.
