There is no such thing as the Mexican Hat Dance, its just an American term. It refers to El Jarabe Tapatio. But this music is actually a mix of two different ones, La Raspa and El Jarabe.
This is so odd...its not multi-culturual....to think a Pakistani got their "info" from this video. I guess we can put video's of misunderstood cultural aspects, and claim its "cultural". Then tell other people to use it.
I guess for my "Intercultural project" i'll dress up as a samurai cutting sushi, and calling myself Chinese.
The melody during which the girls clap belongs to another melody, not originally to the "Jarabe Tapatio" (known as the "Mexican Hat Dance"). I've noticed that, when out of Mexico, these pieces always played together, although they have different origin.
I don't understand either why Mexican music is danced in other countries with typical Spanish movements (like the clapping and the word "Olé!". You'll never hear a remix version like this in Mexico.
WHHAAT!!?? You mean that Mexicans dont clap their hands when dancing and ea Paella, drink red wine, watch Barca loose to Intermilan....and you mean Spaniards dont eat chorizo with eggs and drink tequila and listen to Norteno? ARE YOU SERIOUS...
THANK YOU... YOU MADE THESE PEOPLE LOOK STUPID FOR DANCING TO THIS CRAP.
The real dance in Mexico was danced around a huge sombrero. Correct me if I am wrong though (if there are any Mexicans reading this), I didn't really do an in-depth research on the dance. =)
@Chaosdada because initially and even now sometimes hats are used in it in this version only the girls are dancing but in couple dance men use hats most of the time
I have posted a video responce trying find out is a mexican hatdance done in male female couples or in women and women couples what is a real mexican hat dance???
Not sure how it first started, but I think in early days, only the men danced. In this age of globalization, I don't think gender is really a huge issue when it comes to dancing :)
There were only 2 of us dancing because no one in my group (it was Intercultural Communication class , 3 years back) knew how to dance.. le sigh!
Mexican pride :) I love this video it expresses the beauty In Mexican dancing. OH and one more thing....SOMEONE! GET THE GUY IN THE HAT OUT OF THE WAY!!!! :D Thankx
this was really awesome thanks for posting it really cool.i am from Pakistan.we are doing a show on the different cultures and this video was heaven for us we did the performance entirely on this even though the skirts r more colorful both audio and video quality r great the music was really lively all our friends love it

We have chosen Mexico for our tables Christmas party theme. We have to get up and a do a piece from that country.
I thought we could do the Mexican Hat Dance. It's the first time I have seen the full version so thankyou very much especially the senorita who was the most enthuiastic, made it enjoyable to watch.
Great stuff! Interesting how the girl in the low-heeled shoes seems to be more into it than the girl in the high-heeled shoes. And why the heck does the cameraman turn the camera sideways at the end? Inquiring minds want to know! :)
Great dancer!!! I'm learning this song on the piano and I found your rendition superb. May I ask what your ethnic background is? What other types of dance do you do? Do you also sing or play any instruments?
@Bewisefools Hey! Sorry I just saw this comment. I am Malaysian Chinese - that means, I am ethnically Chinese but NOT from China (don't know why people always have to perceive that just because one is Chinese he/she has to be from China) my nationality is Malaysian (so are my parents, grandparents, great grand parents?). I did everything from ballroom to ballet to contemporary, though kinda suck at hip hop/breakdancing. Yes I sing, and I was in the school band -percussions and E-flat horn :)
WOW... que bonitas señoritas mexicanas, bailan muy bien "La Raspa", contagian su alegria, felicidades y gracias por bailar nuestras danzas. Saludos desde México.

Though I think the music reminds me of small Austrian villages lost in the Alps, rather than Latino America ^^
So now, you'll have to teach me this one too, in addition to the waltz ;) That is, if I make it from Chiang Mai to BKK.......
