+man this shit was wack famu cant mess with any band in the swac they have like 400 members and still sound like a high school band famu is all showmanship and no musicanship wack as halftime show
@krankmovies10 u musy be from su the swac is wack bros when famu an bcu get down the greatest show on earth why dont nobody wants to give the best band credit . then ya ll sorry ass try to mimick everything the hundred do man go under your rock an stay hater FAMU IS THE BEST AN ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST BAND IN THE LAND POINT BLANK! stop stealing shit bcu remember you can only get a point from a bigger figure lol
There isnt 1 band that can phuck with these 2 bands on the field in the SWAC, MEAC, SIAC or CIAA. Everybody is too focused on blowing loud, "crankin' and stand material...but one thing I will say about The 100 and Marching Wildcats is that they keep it old school, they still focus on the field show and being the best ON THE FIELD...not in the STANDS! Props to the FAMU and BCC (they were BCC in my day and thats what they gone be to me lol) they are my favorite 2 bands HANDS DOWN #1 and #2
I went to FAMU and honestly i enjoyed the show and the comments your making is really on point and I agree totally trust me and the crowd liked both but the classic should have been different and new and as a viewer I felt FAMU show was better but the dance routine I would have to give that to BCU not that it was so good it was just new and something different FAMU will always be my #1 band but we needed something different that's all
I have observed FAMU marching band for twenty-plus years. Their musical arrangements, especially in the stands, have always been beautifully crafted. My biggest disappointment is the amount of dancing versus playing (field show). Music should always come first and all other factors become secondary. Both bands have the talent, size, and musicality to play anything. If they continue to raise the bar, other bands will follow their lead. This year, BCU out played FAMU on the field.
its tru! i was dere nd they did. esp. in the stands. i was sitting rite where FAMU was nd wen both bands were playing, i cud hardly hear FAMU!! nd Bethune was waaaay over the other side! thats how loud BCU was playin!
Based on the quality and extent of the musical selections, yes they did. Just for a moment, pretend this is your first time viewing each performance. Which one was more musical?, not entertaining.
I'm sorry but I disagree. Unlike FAMU, I didnt recognize half of what BCU played on the field. Therefore if I cant tell what the band is playing then there has to be an obvious flaw in the quality and/or musical extent of the selection. FAMU's selections were more musical AND more entertaining IMO. and that is evident by the whole stadium singing along with the tunes Remember the time, Rock with you, Heal the world, & Smooth criminal. Like Joe Bullard says "The sound that's RECOGNIZABLE"
Thank you for offering your point without insulting the opposing position. I do agree that FAMU was more entertaining, but I still disagree on the music. My argument is based on the amount of time given to playing versus dancing. Are they dancers or musicians? The sousaphones and drums played more than the band, that is an issue. Playing recognizable measures (4, 8, or 20) of music does not warrant praise for a world-class band. BCU gave greater attention to music during their performance.
You're welcome. And to answer your question - MUSICIANSHIP FIRST. Is your argument (amount of time playing vs. dancing) specifically about the dance routines or the complete shows? Indeed both FAMU and BCU danced more than they played in their dance routines otherwise it wouldnt be called a dance routine lol.
(cont'd) As far as complete shows, I think it is FAMU that gave more attention to music because the only dancing was in the dance portion of the show. Other than that portion, the show was ALL music (intro, drill, and concert). While on the other hand, BCU danced in their intro, smooth criminal breakdown in the BCU formation, and of course their dance routine which was significantly longer than FAMU's.
We just disagree, and that's good. I have really enjoyed our week-long discussion. We took over this page. LOL. It is encouraging to know that other people are willing to offer more than one or two sentence comments. Anyway, take care and get ready for Classic 2010.
But, this is just my opinion. I do not have any loyalty to either school or band. There will always be differences of opinions. Always remember, being able to offer a unfavorable point on a subject and have a dialogue is relevant to our intellectual development.
with all due respect. what game was you at? it couldnt have been the fl classic in orlando, fl 11/21/09. if you meant outplayin as in the number of selections then FAMU outplayed BCU. if you meant outplayin as in better song selection then FAMU outplayed BCU. if you meant outplaying as in most recognizable arrangements then FAMU outplayed BCU. if you meant outplaying as in most technical arrangements then FAMU outplayed BCU. I think you get my drift.
Neither band had very technical arrangements, so they are even in that aspect. The number of selections is irrelevant when minimum measures are played. A band can play twenty songs in a half-time show when the chorus is played. On song selection, all you have to play is the most popular MJ songs and the audience will know them. On arranging, are you referring to the arrangement of songs or the arrangement of the song?, because the audience would not know a particular arrangement of a song.
I disagree in terms of technical grade of the arrangements. Just compare Heal the world and Point of it all for illustration. One piece is definitely technically superior to the other. If outplaying isnt defined by the # of selections to you then we'll discuss song selection and arrangement of the song (my initial reference) since musical extent and quality constitute outplaying to you.
In my opinion outplaying is not determined by the number of selections but the breadth of the musical selections. Any band can play medley's of an artist, my argument is still the amount of time devoted to music versus dancing.
(cont'd) bcu played an MJ song as well but famu's selections were more popular. That is a product of strategic show planning which evidently famu did a better job due to audience response. Arrangement of the song is a factor of outplaying because, you are correct that the audience doesnt kno the particular arrangement, but the composition is important for song recognition. If the audience cant identify the song then the arrangement isnt satisfactory. bcu's music had this issue.
I disagree, the arrangement of the song is irrelevant when the audience only hears the majority of the chorus section. Anyone can recognize a popular tune from years past, especially when most of the audience grew up listening to it.
Exactly my point. Like FAMU, BCU played what is usually the most easily recognizable portion of a song - the chorus. But the audience, who should be able to recognize the chorus of popular tunes from years past like you stated, could not recognize all the songs due to BCU's arrangements. Further validating my point is the fact that BCU played more contemporary, recently released music from within the last year. So recognizing new songs shouldve been easier compared to old songs. But it was not.
MUSIC always precedes MUSICIANSHIP. Without music there is no need to obtain the latter. The concept of the music and the arrangement comes first-- otherwise the musician/band doesnt play. FAMU played MJ songs that have been played around the world for 20+ years, the audience should have been able to recognize them. Just because BCU performed more contemporary pieces does not negate their selection process, nor their arrangements.
The audience was comprised of people ranging from small children to grandparents. Everyone is familiar with MJ, young and old. I am sure the audience musical taste played a major role in their response. For one, I do not listen to everything on the radio, so I do not give any weight to their response. From my viewpoint, they enjoyed the dancing more than the music, so their response is irrelevant to me.
Diversity! There was no diversity in the FAMU show, it was a MJ show. MJ sung a variety of slow and fast tempo songs, was his breadth of music displayed on the field? BCU might not have been the crowd favorite, but their performance displayed more variety. While all HBCU bands dance, the amount of time given toward dancing throughout the show and the dance routine for the epitome of bands is perplexing. That recognizable sound pertains to just that, The Sound.
I really hope they change up the show a little bit for the battle of the bands in miami. I'm gonna go watch. And if they don't change it i'm gonna be sad.
He was congratulating them because at that moment they finally crossed as Freshmen...a little over excited about it I guess...but that's all...no altercation.
i did see a tenor mess up when they were playing thriller into the formation he messed up pretty bad. i guess that's why they got all over him. The man messed up he has to pay for it; was the sideline the best place for it? NO but he had to pay for it one way or another. Perfection comes at a price and the "100" is an example of perfection its self.
And it will come true with HARD WORK and and dedication/ stay out of trouble and stay focused and study hard and you can become apart of that dream that so many of us have lived..."HUBBA 100" The Best years of my life!!
OOoo wow i guess a freshman REALLY had to of messed up to get a yelling AND a pushing like that at the end haha 5:07 all three of them almost fell over lol
@Alkaseltzer254 Wow, na'll homeboii had to say something slick, he could have waited till he got in the stands or completely off the platform. Wow that was funny
BCC and FAMU are still the only two bands that put it down halftime...eveyrbodyu is still about stands and blowing loud...but these bands are untouchable on the field in the MEAC and SWAC....they are true entertainers when it comes to halftime shows....props to The 100 and Marching Wildcats!
