  • My only criticism is that all of the defenses are applied against karate style attacks. I think it would be better if the applications were demonstrated against more common habitual acts of violence.

  • @Ruestir BUNKAI is application karate technics in karate-style combat ;)

  • Excellent stuff here! Much to learn. Thanks!

  • Very nice. Thank you for making this video, I very much appreciate it.

  • Very nice interpretations! Very inspiring! :)

  • buuuuuueeeeehhhhhhhh

  • This is so cool reminds me of doing the wasas in my dojo :O

  • Impressive style and execution xD!! His precise execution of the techniques, speed and power are exemplary!! Wow!! Definitivamente admiro a este cabronazo!!! OSS!!

  • Bien Fait! J'aime bien le video.

  • Sorry, but I think Shotokan-kata seems much more messy than the same kata in other styles...

Like they are done in a hurry...

    Sorry...

  • It's shotokan karate ?

  • So.....what do you do in "real life"...when you don't have a clue what attack is coming ???

  • @becs5120 Learn karate until you become proficient

  • @becs5120 React to the situation without conscious thought. That's why karate training involves a LOT of 'mindless' repetition. The more quality practice you get the better you will be at :-

    a) identifying the nature of attack.

    b) responding appropriately to the attack.

In a real combat environment we have little to no time to think consciously, we act instinctively, drill training prepares us for these situations.

  • This is an excellent video well done 5/5

  • best of the best. bunkai shotokan.good job.oss.

  • best of the best. bunkai shotokan.good job.oss.

  • I don't mean to laugh at this beautiful demo, but does anyone else find the slo-mo kiai and breakfall sounds hilarious??

  • @deek77, you dont like french slo mo accent?

  • @ShorinRyuRonin What do you mean? I was referring to the sound of the kiai in slo mo, not his accent. I got nothing but love for France. I meant no offense at all, this man knows his stuff. I was merely saying the slo-mo sounds were funny.

  • Love this.

At 4:45 in Shuri Ryu we do a palm strike, then a groin grab and pull, with a simultaneous strike just above the groin. I really like the throw, too, I'll have to practice it that way.

  • c-c-c-combo braker! ;d

  • Nice! He makes Shotokan look good!

  • sweet

  • Very nice AND good!!! 5* for Sensei Lupo! I hope he will show us many more useful things!

    Bye!

  • Very nice AND good!!! 5* for Sensei Lupo! I hope he will show us many more useful things!

    Bye!

  • I'm a goju practitioner but I did train in a Shotokan dojo for about a year. This guy's bunkai is awesome. The techniques are good but I'm impressed with the performance. Good zanshin. I'm going to definitely study this video and add these applications to my repertoire.

  • I'm not sure there is an "original" bunkai for any kata.. at least none that survive from those that created the kata.. even then most kata we know today are taken/inspired from other, older forms. These applications are as valid as any.

    Some nice moves here.

  • Question, no-one on the street fight's/attacks like this. It would be like a godsend to have someone attack me like this. excellent Bunkai though. Karate was created to fight the aggressive drunk/streetfighter not trained a martial artist.

I am really impressed with the video. Do you have a more realistic bunkai to bassai?

Also there are 14 neck wrenches in the kata I can'[t see then here

    Osu

  • I think I have to agree about the attacks...these kata were created to defend against unexpected attacks and probably with techniques quite unlike those shown...It would be nice if people telegraphed as much as his attacker...This does not take anything away from this persons skill of course, as he is a good karate ka.

  • Regardless of my opinion that Bunkai shown here is not the correct original Bassai Dai Bunkai, this guy deserves respect for the level of his technique, kime and nearly flowless performance of Bassai Dai. A very good, respectable Master.

  • This guy's performance of Bassai Dai is very good (among the best I've seen on utube), but the Bunkai he's showing is mostly made up by himself. While very interesting and seemingly very usefull real-life applications, they have nothing to do with the original Bassai Dai Bunkai I learned years ago from Kase, Jorga Takashi and Sugimura Senseis. Example: very first move this guy is showing here as Jodan Ura Zuki, while in reality it's Chudan Morote Uchi Ude Uke. And so on...

  • Its really difficult to tell what is the "real" Bunkai - Katas developed and changed - Bunkai changed with them - of course - respectable Japanese Sensei have some kind of authority in this question but like in "modern" developed martial arts you can take one movement and apply it oder and over again in different situations - and a different version of Bunkai doesn't have to be wrong - its just different ;)

  • One of beast kata's applications i have see.

    Very good real-applications! Thankyou!

  • its really good, but the katas name is still bassai dai and not bassaï daï

  • one of the best interpretation with i ewer see.

  • Great bunkai video on Bassai-dai kata. I'm trying to find out more practical applications to this kata.

  • This is how it's done! Excellent bunkai! It's amazing how much depth a single kata contains.

  • Good job ! Very , very good job !!!

Sadly , there are few bunkai like this . The most are useless .

  • This bunkai work is exceptional. I do not know bassai dai but I am keen on learning it as you have demonstrated it has very powerfull application... Thankyou.

  • This no bunkai this is BAssai Dai!!

  • Bunkai (analysis, disassembly) is the application of kata. All katas have bunkai.

  • tai otoshi at 6.04

  • Good vid guys

  • 8:19 - owned ^^

    A really great video!

  • real good that's the way to move loved the clip.

    Master Moran

  • Muito bom

  • very good but please be careful.i broke some ones knee doing a kata

  • Excellent video! Very insightfull!

  • Why is it that you never see bunkai against a weapon? The double blocks in this kata are not well interpreted in this video. Imagine the same two blocks against a kon and see what materializes.

  • yes, kon attacks are on the rise. donkey.

  • complimenti grande sensei

  • Very good. He clearly shows that the same technique combinations in the kata can be interpreted in different ways. Also, I have seen other interpretations for this kata that aren't shown here. It just shows how much knowledge you can learn form just one kata.

  • This is an excellent video with some good and interesting interpretations of the kata.

This is what karate should be about, not prancing around a ring slapping one another.

    A+ !

  • @jobbythehutt Very very Special this feeling...

Maybe all martial artes began at the Midlle West, +/-6.000 years ago

It makes me remember about the brain process, how thinking works, and makes it all possible.

    open the page

    (google padilla desportivo artesmarciais

    And click twice the flag,

and it will open in english...

  • @jobbythehutt I AGREE. Although i don't agree with all of the material shown. None the less it's some pf the better stuff on the internet

  • Very good video! Good karate technique and also very well organised! Top class.

  • I liked this video, I can see how to apply the kata and bunki, very well demonstrated.

    Good job!

  • @whatsdatattitude - dude, "bunki" is something you get on saturday night! :D JK.

  • his techniques looked bad because he wasn't using them for the intended classical meaning-just blocking, but his bunkai is true karate. in competition, he fails, but in real life he would pwn anyone out there.

  • very bad

the man is doing bassai dai fast with out control and not sharp

u can check this kata in youtube by italy and france players this dude like a turtes compare to them

  • How can you compare the competition's karate (acrobatics) and the truth karate !!!

  • excellent! the best ! 500 thumbs up!

  • Perfect, excellent Bunkai.

    Simple, Powerful, Effective.

  • His execution is supurb. He is not only a technical master, he as a good understanding of why! Those who criticize are immature and ignorant! I learned much from this video, and I have done this kata for 40 years on and off.

  • Very cool, its not often that you see proper Karate! Nice work, thanks : )

  • Fantastic Bunkai!

Thanks for sharing this great stuff.

  • Kata: 3 stars; Bunkai: 500 stars !!!!

  • This is very awsome bunkai interpretations.

    Thanks for posting!

  • When I attacked in the street by a perfect mae geri, then maybe I will believe this stuff.

Untill then check out Iain Abernethy.

  • Get real, it was a demo of kata bunkai, not a street fight. Grow up!

  • That was excellent! Lots of bunkai not commonly taught in shotokan dojos. Interesting how almost every block combination is really an arm or head lock and throw. Thanks!

  • excellent bravo =)

  • very good demo, and out of stereotypical bunkai. excellent applications and kata essence .

    Exellent travail .

    Ouss Sensei

  • Very helpful video! many thanks :)

  • I LOVE MARTIAL ARTS ... every1 shud no the basics of each of these techniques great way to learn self defense!

  • J'aime vraiment votre interprétation de Bassai Dai, votre vidéo m'a aidé mieux comprend ce kata !

  • Again another great video keep up the good work

  • the techniques perfromed here will not be effected in real fight against another martial artist, because no true fighter just punches and stands there getting his arm locked up for a take down.

  • if the opponent kept attacking him with more punches and kicking, this bassai dai kata techniques would be impractical and useless in a real fight!

  • For a real karate fighter one stirke should be enough to knock out an opponent or to kill.

  • very good kata sir!

  • well theres alil more throws than i realized in bassai die, i love that joint malipulation he introduced int his video, i never realized it was int he kata anyways thanks!

  • It looks effective.

  • Thanks !!

  • shiiiiite!

  • osssss excelente apicacion bassai dai skif chile osss

  • Very good and practical analysis. I like this guy.

  • excellent application of bassai-dai.

  • Definately the best interpretation of Bassai-dai i've seen! Like to see one for Jion (one of my favourites)as well if you get the chance??!!

  • One of the best bassai-dai performances iv seen. good work

  • This is the Shotokan version, right?

  • Yes, It is.

  • Marvelous, please post more bunkais if you can.

Is there a place a can download it from for my dojo buddies ?

  • Excellent! Very crisp kata, very good bunkai explanation. Keep them coming!

  • Thats wonderfull, c'est réalistique à mon aviv. Marvellous. My mind is opend more for more opinions on the kata apart from theirs. HYPER!

  • Very educational.

    Bonne continuation.

  • Inspiring!!! Many techniques seem applicable in real situations :->

  • Good ejecution
