@nathantdwp777 Do both. It's better to do it with a pedal, but any practice will improve coordination and muscle in your legs. My friends get pissed off all the time cos I'm pretty much constantly moving my feet and my legs.

@blaaaaaarrgh Make sure you're either using both legs heels up, both ankles heels down, or both ankles heels up and keeping your legs still. You're going to get really fucked up if both your legs are doing something different.

I think another important thing to be pointed out with this exercise is that his left hand hits the snare drum at the same time his right foot begins the 10 bass drum hits and again for the first hit of second set of 4 bass drum hits. While his hands are playing straight time his feet are in triplets so his left hand sort of follows his right foot (at least for the snare drum hits). If you're just starting double pedal, this will probably cause you a lot of frustration.

@xXEmoDrummer7Xx i have exactly the same problem, and some days it works and some days it doesn't. basically you have to find a technique, see what works and suits u and play it slow, really slow with a metronome at about 76bpm, work your way up each day by 10bpm, till u get the speed u want then work it back down.

way beyond heel toe? Haha not a chance. all the world records for speed have been achieved with heel toe. If you want extreme speed, learn heel toe.

@Dreammotive yes this guy is really bad. his fast double bass video made me laugh. while extreme speed is nice, you can still achieve 300 bpm with heel down single strokes(not easily of course) so i am happy with knowing that. most i want is around 250 and can already do 230.... only place to go is up. but nice videos dreammotive

Yeah, there are some who can do 300 with the heel down or heel-up normal strokes. but it takes so much more work. Also it depends on HOW LONG you can play at said tempo. With heel toe, you can play over a minute straight at 300 if you're highly trained. And for short bursts like the ones in this video you could certainly hit 320 - 350. Even 400 for a very highly trained heel-toe expert.

But with an axis longboard, wearing socks, using heel-toe I can play faster than anything Kollias does with swivel. And im not the fastest.

Very true on kollias, and heel toe. I tried and quite ohnest im a little jealous on people who can heel toe. I seen people who just learned it a month ago and can pull 190bpm pretty easilly, and here i am single stroking 190bpm 41/2 months after learning swivel. My long boards are only 11" on the DD's i got them instead of axis because im lefty and have no pattience waiting 6 months for axis a's.

Watch some of my videos. Theres one called Contra: Remix where I play at 250 bpm clean enough that theres no noticable mistakes in the feet. The check out "Dreammotive from zero to 200" There's a little bit of chopiness but im playing at 310 for over 10 seconds straight. So yeah I can definitiley play at 270 evenly. Im not going to make a video just to prove it to you. I wish having chops like that automatically gave you a career in music but thats not the case.
